North Course at Highlands Ridge

About
Highlands Ridge offers 36 holes of championship golf, which form the centerpiece of the upscale residential community. It's one central Florida's most popular golf destinations. The courses, the North and the South, share the same scenic landscape but they provide very different rounds. The North Course is known for its outstanding conditions. The designer, Dave Harman, modeled the course after Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand, which was recognized as the Best New International Course in 2011 by Golf Digest. The layout is not as challenging as the South Course, making it more appealing for beginners. Water hazards come into play on a few holes and there are some strategically placed bunkers to contend with. There is also rough along the fairways and greensides that can be particularly punishing.

favorite course in area.
Great course. My favorite course in area. Is a challenge for all skill levels.
Great Course
Playing the North Course at Highlands Ridge was a great experience. The course and facilities impressed us as we arrived. The staff is extremely attentive to the customers. The course is in excellent condition and the pace of play was great.

I'm glad you liked the course snuvewod0. Thanks for the nice comment. Thanks for coming out and playing our course.
Surprisingly good golf course
Got a great deal so was not expecting much. Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise.
Great mix of golf holes, very playable golf course, decent condition. Played fairly long from the back tees.
Will definitely play again.

Good course, good condition. Not sure it was worth an hour and half drive tho'. Got a bit slow on the back 9.
overall very good course
My two friends and I paired up with a single on a Thursday morning 0800 hours "residents" shotgun round. The starter put us two holes ahead of the rest and we were never pushed or waited. Had a great time. Greens were a little sandy first thing in the morning with the dew. Course was in extremely good condition. Lots of bunkers. Good fun!
Rainy, cold, but course was worth the money!
This course is a hidden gem in Avon Park. Get out early and beat the crowd. For $30, I was curious to see what I would get. This course is picturesque, in great condition, and enjoyable to play. It had just enough hazards to keep it challenging, and the layout was very pleasing to any golfer.
The pace of play was awesome...under 3 hours. Would also be pretty easy to walk if you chose to.
Very good
Found course long distance from town but worth the drive
Quality Greens
outstanding greens! Third best in Polk county, Starter a true gentleman ( Tim) and very, very helpful....Great time was had by all
Interesting
the course offers a challange and a reasonable amount of water hazzards.
The course staff are very polite and friendly.
Great course
Have played this course at least 10 times. Excellent facility with the feel of a country club setting, but the friendliness of a public course. Challenging, but fair. Always look forward to bringing my friends here to play.
Still warm in January
I've played this track several times on vacation. The Tiff Eagle greens weren't dormant yet and were in surprising good condition; but SLOW! Several of the pin positions weren't located where the pin guide indicated.
My favourite course so far.
Would have rated at 4.5 but there isn't that rating.
Love the course.
Very challenging for me at the same time forgiving. Fairways are a generous width yet you can still get into a lot of trouble with a poor drive off the tee.
Greens are in great shape. Yes I played a few bunkers and found them to be well looked after as well.
Looking for a negative about the course is hard. Even the estate homes are far and few between.
Disappointing condition
Greens were hairy, long and slow. Looks like they were not cut for a few days. Good job it was a discounted rate or I would have wanted my money back. I hate it when courses ( or Golfnow) do not inform you ahead when course conditions are not up to snuff with option to cancel and refund. I love the course design and play was fast at 4 hours. Over seeded fairways were good.
Paradise returning
My wife and I have been coming to Highlands Ridge for three winters now. This is the best shape the North Course has been in. There are a few rough spots near edges of fairways and the greens could be a little quicker, but they do roll true. There are a few tight holes and many others with generous fairways. Doglegs are challenging with well placed fairway traps. The staff are great here and they do their best to pair up couples. This is a must play course if you are in the area!
my golf day
Enjoyed the course and will play it again, it was fun, greens were nice and fast.
Crabgrass issues
Highlands Ridge North is a great course but they have definitely let invasive grasses like crabgrass overtake some of the fringes, tees, and aprons.
recovering
This course fell into disrepair last year but now it's recovering . The greens are true and a good roll..about a 10 steep...not fast but fast enough. Very consistent roll. Greens and fringes still have some sparse/sporadic alien grass that dOes not interfere...cosmetic only. Same it's true of tees and
Fairways. Pro shop people, starter et al are very friendly and polite. Dew on my cart seat was not very pleasant, though. Great design and beautiful nature preserve...saw ducks, cranes, loons, painted box turtle, and one scared and befuddled armadillo, like me on 12 and 15 tee.
Highlands Ridge North
Excellent staff course in very good condition. week they say my review is to short, sorry about that but I am a man of few words.
Great layout poor condition
The course is pretty beat up after the summer when they overseed it may be better around mid November good value for $20 but not worth the rack rate
Glad you liked the course jamesfrease. Thanks for the nice comment about the playability of our course. We also feel it is a good course for all skill levels.
