Colonial Country Club
About
Colonial Country Club, located in Fort Worth on the southern banks of the Trinity River and near TCU, is one of the most historic golf clubs in Texas. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who sought to have a north Texas club with smooth, bent grass greens (unheard of at the time, as many courses had either sand or Bermuda turf). The course was originally designed by Texan John Bredemus and Oklahoma architect Perry Maxwell, who formally worked with Dr. Alister Mackenzie. Holes no. 3-5 are nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe” and represent the strongest stretch on the course, featuring a 247-yard par-3 4th hole bookended by long and demanding par 4s. Colonial Country Club hosted the 1941 U.S. Open, won by Craig Wood and was the first time the event was staged in Texas. Despite now playing over 7,200 yards, Colonial maintains a reputation to this day as a ball-striker’s playground. Ben Hogan won the Colonial golf tournament five times. Other multiple winners of this longstanding PGA Tour event include Lee Trevino, Billy Casper, Nick Price and Ben Crenshaw.

Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Florida (2014 #11)
Reviews
nice course in perfect contitions and back nine a bit more challenging
This course is absolut recommending for player with low and high HCP. The course conditions were in very good shape withe perfect greeens (played Oct.2014 HCP 15,1).
It. was wonderful
We stayed i n Naples for Holiday and play this course with two trange guys. It was beautiful to play this course.
Too Slow
Nice course with tight fairways and large undulating greens. Way too slow . The couple who I was paired with who were members and me quit after 12 holes and 4 hours. At times here were 5 groups on 1 hole
An Excellent Test
Colonial Country Club provides an excellent test of your golfing skills, while still being an enjoyable venue. There are sufficient teeing options for every golfer. I enjoy the blue/white option at 6315 yds, which gives the mid-handicap player a strong, but not overwhelming test. The conditions are excellent and green speeds in the 10ish range, so not too severe for most players. The staff is friendly and helpful. The practice area is very nice, so make sure to arrive early. I highly recommend Colonial Country Club.
Best Course in Ft. Myers with public access
This course is absolutely the best value for the money. The course is pristine. This kind of course condition is usually only found at a private facility. I travel to Ft. Myers every X-Mas and play here multiple times every year. Highly recommend to ANY golfer!
tricky greens
Course was in great shape . Had to hit greens with approach shot couldn't roll ball onto green. Fast greens with tricky undulations. 5 or 6 tee boxes to choose from . Last 2 holes are beautiful. A must play when in Southwest Florida.
Nice layout, great condition, but very, very slow play.
Our group waited on nearly every tee box for the group ahead of us. We knew we were in for a long afternoon when the marshal told us play was a little slow today, but didn't do anything about it. A very nicely maintained course otherwise.
great course
will definetely play again.playing time on each hole was adequate.course marshal needed to speed up slow players
This course has great feature!
Great course layout, maintenance and value! The staff was friendly and helpful.
A good course to test your game on
I played Colonial for the first time in November. I knew it would be a good experience when i saw it was a Troon managed course. It is mostly members, so I was lucky to grab a 1:30 slot. I played with 3 social members who said the place was packed during Snow Bird season. I enjoyed the layout and conditions. I used most every club in my bag from the Blue/White combo tees. The pace of play was just over 4 hours. I was not take a big gamble with my $38. twi rate. That price will go away very soon. This course is well worth the trip up I-75 to Colonial. Give it a shot!
Course is in great shape, greens running 10 + on the stimpmeter. A great tough set of par 3"s.
Enjoyed my day there ,booking was smooth, my name on the golf cart , very professional setup, a great value.
beautiful golf course.
With 5 sets of tees this course is all you want in challenging holes. Some wide open and some very demanding.
this course has some challenging holes
very enjoyable day course was in great shape and the weather was great a little bit windy though the price was right for this time of the year play was a little slow but that is to be expected this time of year
This is a very nice course
The course is very well maintained. The staff and amenities were great. We encountered some slow play because their were senior couples foursome in front of us enjoying the day.

The best and nicest course I have played in Florida.
I found the course fantastic and great value for my money. It did have some long transport between holes and in my view not that good routings. We were fortunate to have someone playing with us that new his way around.
