Unexpected Experience
This was the first time my wife and I have played this course. We kinda steered clear of this course due to a recommendation of a full time resident in the area. We really enjoyed the round despite being told we could not walk, even thought we can keep pace with the best of them. The pro shop guy told us they don’t allow walking due to safety reasons. The cart guy said they do allow walkers after 1 PM, I guess they don’t “care” about safety after 1 PM. The fairways and greens were in great shape, although most of the fairways are pretty narrow. There are a lot of blind shots and if it’s your first time playing here, it would have been nice for the tee box signs to give yardage to the blind hazards. We really look forward to playing here again, now that we know the layout. This course would be hard to beat for the green fees we paid. We booked a Hot Deal on GolfNow.
Good Layout - fair condition
Good place to practice your game. Got a Golf Now Hot Deal for $10 so couldn't pass it up. Move the ball around, practice your shots, don't worry about a score and just have fun. Good layout - fair conditions.
Challenging fairways
One thing I noticed is that on several holes you cannot see how far ahead the group in front is. Also some fairway had quite a slope left or right so was easy for the ball to roll off even though you hit a straight shot. Greens were in good shape as well as fairways.
Always waiting
Tee times were 11:40 didn't get out until 12:15 because they said they were a little behind This seems to be the case all the time at this course. Pace was extremely slow. By the time I reached the 11th tee it was a little after 3 pm.. We quit and didn't finish. I won't play this course again in the winter season. The summer when everyone has gone north and it's hot...Maybe
Some good and some bad
Some of the fairways are too close together on this course. its just too cramped in, and a bit dangerous. I do like the elevation changes and lots of big oak trees. We found the greens not in good shape. They had some well problems earlier and maybe that caused part of the problem on the greens. The fairways are good, especially considering all the shade from the oak trees. Overall, this course is a good change of pace from most of the flat courses in our area.
Very Friendly
Tees and greens in good shape
Course is overseeded
Happy Staff and gate lady is funny
Good Golf
The course is extremely tight especially if you have a slice or hook. At worst you end up in another fairway. The course has no houses to hit and that is a BIG plus. Fairways are green but the greens are shaggy.
Be Aware of Who is in Front of You
Still in somewhat rough shape. Greens are furry and very slow. Some bare patched on fairways. The layout is good. Really enjoyed the elevation changes (for Florida). We got stuck behind two foursomes of very slow ladies (I know men can be just as slow, but this was painful). I have played with and behind many ladies groups and have been fine with it. I was playing with my wife and she is new to the game. She is the one that insisted we pass them. We skipped two holes just to save some sanity. All was great after that.
Lbrdrman
An enjoyable round. The gentleman in the pro shop was very friendly, and although it was a cold, windy day, the course was in good shape. I'm sure we will return.
Nice course, no jungles off the fairways
This is a fairly tight course, but it is well kept. When their are trees on the sides of the fairways they are well groomed and you never see debris in amongst the trees. They have paved cart paths alongside most of the fairways and ask that you abide by the 90 degree rule.
I took a friend with me this week who normally shots around 90 and has played on a lot of courses. He said he definitely wanted to go back.
Enjoyable course
I have played here several times this winter and have enjoyed the challenge. There is little wasted space in the course layout and the space between fairways is very clean whether it is only a few trees or a thicker grove.
Unfortunately my last booking on January 1st did not work out because the Club was closed. But this was not the fault of Water Oaks.
Much Improved After the Overseeding
This course had some problems this summer but is in much better shape after the overseeing has come in. It's a tight course with small greens but it has some character with the big oak trees and the hilly terrain.
"You have to be off the course by one"
We had a 10:02 tee time and when we arrived were told by the starter that we had to be off the course by 1 p.m. because they had a scramble. he also told us that we could only play the front 9 twice because the back nine was closed due to overseeding. Some of the fairways are very close to each other there were balls flying into our fairway several times. Granted we paid $10 each, but probably not worth much more.
Great find
Beautiful course with old growth trees, hills, abundant water. Aesthetically one of the best courses I've played in Florida. Not for fussy course maintenance types.
