Course manager needs to pay more attention to the placement of the tee box markers. A few holes whites and blues markers were backwards. Also, distances do not match with the score card. Fairways and greens still need work.

A very good mix between easier and more difficult holes. Some of the short ones will get you. A fun track to play with a nice bar/ restaurant in the clubhouse for a snack and refreshments after play.

Don’t be fooled by a slightly shorter course. They have some surprises in store .

The Links of Sandpiper holds promise in its layout but is currently held back by inconsistent playing surfaces.

Conditioning

Today, the fairways were extremely sparse, with large areas of hardpan and thin, weedy grass. As a result, I found that even solid iron strikes could cause unpredictable effects on run-up approaches. Clean contact was not assumed even with good swings, and distance control became inconsistent.

The greenside areas required similar effort. With very little cushion beneath the ball, I readjusted my normal chipping technique to reduce bladed/heavy shots. Under these conditions, players’ scores are less reflective of their execution. Instead, they’ll be working hard to counteract bare lies if they hope to make pars. The drought has surely contributed to these lies. Still, the playing conditions impair playability.

Layout

The underlying layout is certainly respectable and shows promise. The back-to-back par-5s at eight and nine were carefully thought through by the designers. Several raised green complexes were compelling—visually and strategically. The par-3 thirteenth, a particularly strong hole, challenged me to hit my best 4-hybrid. It came off as I had hoped.

Disappointingly, the stretch from fourteen through seventeen narrows a great deal. I found that the firm and thin turf conditions made these tighter fairways rigorous in the extreme. In particular, sixteen seemed extra-strenuous, with its tree-lined approach, its hidden pond, and the cart path directly in front of the green. Given better conditions, these holes may instead reinforce accurate ball-striking, not increase the layout’s severity here.

Conclusion

The Sandpiper greens rolled fast and consistently; the bunkers were good. This seems clear evidence that the staff is directing their efforts well, where possible. By comparison to other area courses, though, the typical fairway and rough conditions here were less predictable.

My current overall rating stems from current conditions. Once the mid-Florida drought tapers off, however, I think a return visit might show the course closer to its architectural potential.

Really enjoy playing this course. It can be slow in Winter but in Summer with the longer days lt doesn't matter.

The tees, bunkers and greens are in good shape but the. fairways are terrible. That being said, it was significantly cheaper than other courses in the area so overall I was satisfied.

Terrible shape. Dirt , Weeds and crab glass for fairways I started playing this course a few years ago. Fun layout and very reasonable . I noticed it going down last year. Played it once .. didn’t go back again until this year and won’t be playing there again anytime soon. It’s really a shame . Price is still reasonable but I’d rather pay more for a course in

better shape !

This course had very little grass and what they did have was ruined by the freeze.

This course has an amazing layout and staff was the friendliest around!! Fairways had done weed issues and greens were super thin.

Would be interested to play here again and see if the springtime rains would make it more lush.
