El Tigre Club de Golf
About
Located in Nuevo Vallarta, El Tigre Club de Golf enjoys views that stretch to the western Sierra Madre. The design team of Robert Von Hagge, Mike Smelek, and Rick Baril transformed what used to be a flat piece of land into a lush, tropical paradise. Nine water features were added, which come into play on 12 holes, and the terrain was molded and contoured to provide interesting elevation changes. The golf course's proximity to the ocean means that it is also subject to strong prevailing winds, especially in the early evening. The course finishes with two of its most difficult holes. El Tigre Club de Golf's par-3 17th has plenty of sand and water in play to prepare you for the beastly par-5 finishing hole. This 621-yard monster is practically a par 6 with water down the entire left side and a green surrounded by sand.

Bring your sand game!
Excellent fun, accuracy is key. The course was plugged about 3 weeks ago, and the greens still have some sand, not perfect but getting better. Club rental is about $60. US each. Very nice clubs for rentals. Staff was terrific, good English and easy to communicate with about typical golf issues. Oh, we are not that good, so highly recommend you have plenty of golf balls!
Very nice
We enjoyed this course. It is very unique, with sand everywhere. This is the off season, and we played with very few people. The staff was very nice and attentive
Course and staff
Didn’t know they had punched the greens and T-box. .Same price as regular greens the week before, Not as great as we expected for the price. Also recommend a greeting when we arrive. They took our bags and drive off waving they had the bags. Didn’t talk to to anyone until inside. Very friendly once we were inside. Customers (4) not in line cut to the front with other members who appeared to be in the same group paying individually. Not managed by counter staff, again very nice when we got our turn. Cart staff very friendly and professional. Water provided is appreciated. Didn’t use off course amenities to rate fairly. Greens were tough to put and were not consistent.
Excellent for the price.
Good: Great course layout, excellent and friendly staff - free water brought to us three times, excellent driving range and putting green. Very pretty grounds, wide and narrow fairways. Great for advanced and beginner golfers - tee placement thoughtful. Minimal golfers on course. Greens in good condition but hard hard hard.
Second thoughts: sand bunkers were extremely hard, some water hazards empty, course construction (minimal), food services close early, some low spots in fairway were water logged - two mud balls.
Amazing
First time playing outside the US and it was amazing! We aren’t great golfers but the course was very open and only a few holes where difficult. There is a lot of sand but nothing to horrible. Only complaint was the sand was a little hard but other than that it was amazing. Definitely worth it!
Fun
Knew they had just aerated, but great Golf Now rate. Love this layout. Can’t wait for greens to return to normal standards.
Problem tee time
Booked a 1:30 tee time. Arriving at 12:30, pro shop advised there was a tournament in progress, that we couldn’t play until completed, and that it would be at least a 1/2 hour delay. We were not advised of the tournament and possible when we made the tee time.
We were told we would be the first group off following the delay, which turned out to be 45 minutes. When we arrived at the first tee there was still a group on 1, so we jumped to the 2nd hole, only to find a group there. We jumped to the 3rd hole and teed off. As a 3 some, and with no one in front of us, we made excellent time. However, when arrived at 15, there was a very slow group in front of us. They had started on the back nine, and would not let us play through. We skipped 17, and played 18. Did not play 1&2, so ended up only playing 15 holes. Has we known about the tournament up front, we would have booked at another course.
As to the course itself, greens were very good, but some of the fairways had bare spots.
Nice Couirse - very poor sand traps
I know you are supposed to stay out of sand traps but the sand at El Tigrre is terrible, almost hard pan which makes getting out extremely difficult. Otherwise, the fairways are great, rough is non existent and the greens are true and hold approach shots very well. Like all courses in the area the green fees are too high so the courses don't get much play at this time of the year. Golf Now hot deals are great.
Nice Course, lots of water
This is a nice course, very well maintained but very few golfers playing. If courses in the Puerto Vallarta area were to lower their rates there would be a lot more people playing which would certainly boost their revenues not just from golf but Food and Beverage. This course is always windy in the afternoon so it keeps the temperature reasonable. Wind makes the 18th hole very challenging. Golfers will enjoy this course more if they move forward on the tee boxes.
Thanks GolfNow for securing lower prices.
Typical Mexican course
Typical Mexican course Fairly dry fairways super fast greens and aprons that have received too much water and slow down the pace of the ball on the approach . Very pretty course good pace very attentive to your needs while on the course good cart with satellite tracking. Played three times in two weeks only a good value with a discount agency like golf now if you play in the morning the price is exceptional high no nine holes yet they’re waiting for the end of the season which ends shortly.
Well worth the money
A little older course but very playable. Lots of water and humongous traps. Nice cart girl! Will definitely be back.
