About
Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield, just outside of Hartford, is an Arnold Palmer Signature course. It is one of the toughest rounds in all of New England. The course sprawls across a beautiful landscape covered with natural wetlands and forests of towering maples, oaks, and elm trees. There are strategically placed bunkers in addition to the natural challenges but they are not excessive. The wetlands come into play on almost half of the holes at Gillette Ridge Golf Club. The approaches to the greens are seemingly intimidating but as long as you don't hit short there is always bailout area on one side. Since each hole presents a unique challenge, there is not just one signature hole, but one of the most memorable holes is the par-5 second, a true risk-reward test that requires both length and accuracy.

Under tough conditions
Considering all the rain we’ve gotten in the last few weeks the course was in good condition and very playable. Staff was great.

Gillette Ridge is one of the best public courses in the state, as soon as you arrive the staff you meet at the bag drop, and golf shop are friendly and accommodating. The starter, Chris is also a great asset to the course. I showed up on a cloudy day, it started to rain as I got to the first tee, he offered to let me borrow his rain pullover, I thought he was joking until he pulled it off and handed it to me!
Great layout, and not an easy course, the course forces you to hit every club in the bag, and the course is always in good shape. If I didn’t live 40 minutes away, I’d play it everyday.
The staff at the bar and restaurant are also very friendly and I’ve never had a bad meal.
First time at Gillette Ridge
We went after a weeks worth of rain but I have to say the course held up extremely well minus the traps (but that’s to be expected). The staff was amazing from bartenders to the pro staff and the starter(Chris) who went above and beyond to make sure we knew the ins an outs of the course. I will definitely make my back there hopefully when it’s a little dryer. It is definitely a challenging course that makes you use all the clubs in the bag.
Poor course condition
The greens and fairways are too firm!!
Too many divots.
Good and difficult
Very difficult course to play, recommend playing from the white for your first time. Lots of hazards from the blue. Conditions were not great but due to the amount of rain from the previous 3 days. Will definitely play again.
Ranger needed
I was part of a threesome. There were about 3 groups on the course. We were behind the slowest foursome. There needs to be a ranger to move things along. It was 100 degrees out. Too hot to be waiting 10 minutes on a tee.
Great course
Played the front 9. Staff was great, course was beautiful. Hope to play the full 18 next time! Price was extremely fair as well
Tough greens
Paid $31 on tee-off which is outstanding. Course had some dead patches on the fairways and on some greens. Greens were slow and very hilly. Pace of play was 4 3/4 hours with an 11 am start. No rangers seen on course for help.
Slow play, terrible greens
The greens were slow, which was surprising and had a lot of dead spots in them. There was no grass at all in parts of the greens and many of the fairways had tons of divot spots.
We saw a ranger a lot on the front nine but once we got to the back nine, he was nowhere to be seen. The group in front of us made sure to putt out all putts and took forever. They were not playing ready golf and standing over each putt like it was to win The Masters.
There are too many better courses for better value in the area to play this course ever again.

only problem was they need a marshal all the time to manage people that are playing slow
