Gillette Ridge
About
Gillette Ridge Golf Club in Bloomfield, just outside of Hartford, is an Arnold Palmer Signature course. It is one of the toughest rounds in all of New England. The course sprawls across a beautiful landscape covered with natural wetlands and forests of towering maples, oaks, and elm trees. There are strategically placed bunkers in addition to the natural challenges but they are not excessive. The wetlands come into play on almost half of the holes at Gillette Ridge Golf Club. The approaches to the greens are seemingly intimidating but as long as you don't hit short there is always bailout area on one side. Since each hole presents a unique challenge, there is not just one signature hole, but one of the most memorable holes is the par-5 second, a true risk-reward test that requires both length and accuracy.

The sixth, 173, 3-par: The long slender green, obliquely set to the tee, is a common feature at Gillette. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

The ninth green: par 4, 405, but the blues were set at 440 today. A murderously tough golf hole. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

Eleven: par 5, 500. Another strong driving hole, with the Heublein Tower as part of the backdrop. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

Eleven again, at its well-defended green. My playing partners prepare to putt. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

16: One of my playing partners, a scratch golfer and club member, praised the quality of the three finishing holes; this is the first of them. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2021

Gillette Ridge's drivable par-4 13th is an excellent hole. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/08/2017

The 16th green at Gillette Ridge shows the course is consciously shrinking the putting surfaces, presumably for ease of maintenance. I wish they wouldn't do this - it makes an already hard course even tougher and will slow pace of play. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/08/2017

Great Layout & in Super Condition
Love this course. New Management is really getting it back into "primo" condition.
Worst time I ever had at a course
Arnold Palmer would roll over in his grave at the immaturity and lake of civility this supposed to be championship course . It was a nightmare , from Jordan the supposed gm ( who bailed ) to Lukas the pro that blamed everyone else . Try to call and it goes to a full voicemail or a high school kid picks up
The new management is completely under prepared
We showed up an hour before our tee .Checked in hit balls and went to the tee too find out they double booked tee times . No problem. No one helped us after that . They changed starters , the club pro offered no help . I went in to tell the pro shop the double booked and they had no idea . No water on the course , cart girl showed up after the 17 ( it was 90 and humid I’m not being a baby ) and the turn ran out of bottled water at 1:30 . I hope Arnold Palmer management doesn’t make this a trend .
Gillette Ridge
Challenging course but very nice conditions overall. It seems to be a course that you'd have to play several times to score well. Try to stay out of the traps because many of them aren't in the best condition. We played after a lot of rain so it was cart path only which makes for a lot of walking.
Rain
Only played 6 holes. Unfortunately cold rain all day.
Stopped after club flew out of hand Lol
want to play it again
This was my first time at Gillette Ridge. I would say the pro shop staff were not particularly friendly but I got checked in. Found my group and we were off. Course is somewhat challenging in particular for a first timer. Great layout and conditions. I think its a must play
One of My Favorites
This course has been resurrected from the dead only a few short years ago. It’s a wonderful place to play for any golfer.
3 hour front 9
Clubhouse allowed “2 sixomes” (12 people for one tee time) out in front of us. Paid for 18 but had to leave after a 2:45 hour front 9. We were refunded the back 9 but this is completely unacceptable considering the $80 price tag. Never going back.
thunder on the way
It was great at one our tee time but thunder storms were on the way. I was disappointed because the threesome I was supposed to play with were no shows. Playing by yourself is not as much fun. I eventually joined another single player and we played the course in less than three hours, despite looking for golf balls on many holes. The rains came hard when we reached the 15th hole. The first clap of thunder got us driving to our cars. It poured as hard as it can pour for the next half hour. It did eventually stop but I was well on my way home by that time. The course was a little below its normal standard. A couple of greens had burned out spots and the tees were well used. Their rain policy of sending you back out to the hole you finished on I would not take advantage of since we only had four holes left to play. Playing by myself for seven holes was a little disappointing but the impending weather the course had no control over.
