The 5th. Par-4, 333. Classic drive-and-pitch hole, reflecting the links flavor of many Wintonbury holes. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/14/2021

11. Par-4, 433. A brute that takes no prisoners, and straight uphill from tee to green. Well, you can enjoy the fall scenery, anyway. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/14/2021

The twelfth, a downhill par-3 of 168, gives you a slight breather on a back nine that supplies little respite. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/14/2021

Five is a short but strategic four-par of 333. Beautiful vistas abound on this course. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/28/2020

The downhill 7th, a three-par of 255. Dye believed that long three-pars were the only holes to induce low-handicappers to hit long irons. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 10/28/2020

Players Course
Impressive course. A must for players. People that play this course repair their ball marks because the greens were in perfect shape, dent free.
Love the layout of this course
I love this course and golf now.com made the price like the average public course with a privat feel when it came to amenities and condition of course.
Beautiful vistas, excellent condition
Played with fiancée (it was her first time) on an incredibly beautiful day. The views from some of the holes are enough to make you want to take pictures, that you forget about playing the game!
However, the course is in such pristine shape, that you wish you could just play all day until dark! If you have the game, play from the black tees as you will see the course in its entirety.
Although pricey, this is a "MUST" play course at least once a year. Have fun!!!
Greens close to unplayable.
Beautiful course, scenery, facilities and people.
Tee to green is fair and challenging to average player.
However--
Driving range is 1/2 mile away.
Greens were close to unplayable-- almost "bare" of grass; too fast; too hard-- irons (even 'bounce-ons'), chips and even putts rolled off in all directions. IMHO poor for a course of this quality.
Good outing
Overall, our experience was good with ease of registration and good pace of play. I've seen the course in better shape, especially the tee boxes.
nice course
Greens were a.little beat up but still rolled true. Undulating greens made for high putt counts.
GPS on caters was nice.
Easter Sunday round
Played on Easter Sunday with my dad. Literally no one was on the course so we played the round pretty quickly. One of my favorite courses in CT. Greens a little bumpy still and fairways need some divots filled in but other than that it was a great experience.
Excellent track
Great challenging track. Each hole was unique and enjoyable. The back nine had a number of holes along the river with various elevations. There were no tricky holes or blind shots to the green
The greens had been aerated two weeks earlier but were still quite playable.
The only annoyance was that on the GolfNow website I clicked on my reservation and then clicked directions, the address given was given the wrong address. It was approximately 2 miles off course and not being familiar with the area it delayed my arrival by 30 minutes.
excellent conditions very challenging
course was a perfect 10 plus greens were fast and no leafs
Great course
The course and greens were in great shape. I would definately play again.
Course is a pleasure to play
Check-in was very fast using the GolfNow prepaid option. Staff was very efficient, loading our bags onto the cart. The cart has a great GPS.
Holes 14-17 are very challenging from the green tees. Condition of the course was very good.
All the staff was very friendly.
great conditions, playable holes
Very good conditions. Distances from the white tees were fairly short and very playable for most skill levels.
A little taste of French Lick in Central Connecticut
The Pete Dye Course at French Lick is one of my all-time favorite courses and there's more than a little similarity to that design at Wintonbury Hills. First, there's the obvious elements simply because this is a Dye design: Tons of bunkers and even some modest "Volcano bunkers," just like French Lick and the greens are tough to hold and even more difficult to read. A number of holes at Wintonbury Hills have that French Lick feel partially because there are no trees in play (French Lick famously has none...and the one it did have was struck down by lightning) and the holes play on different levels relative to the land. However, the much longer playing back nine has quite a few tree-lined holes that are unique to Wintonbury Hills where trouble can easily be found without even going into a bunker. The greens ran amazingly fast on the afternoon of my round...which is exactly what the starter warned us about when we did not use the practice green before teeing off. While none of my group had anything to drink the entire afternoon, Wintonbury Hills also caters quite nicely to those who prefer to drink away their bad shots...as they sell both "Bags of Beer" and "Mini Kegs" in the appropriately named "Tap Inn" restaurant & bar for you to take out on the course. Honestly, I think playing French Lick helped prepare me well for Wintonbury Hills...and I will look forward to visiting both again in the near future.
One of best in New England
Course amazing. GPS monitor in carts, Coure very playable, can usually afford to miss a bit with driver, not too many trees. Score affected by difficulty of greens though. Grass perfect. Most top courses have pristine conditions for fairway and greens, but here everywhere the eye could see was perfect.
Great place to play,excellent condition
Loved the course but hated the golf cart system. Carts shut off WITHOUT warning if you go some place your not suppose to ,than you have to pull it back to where it will start working again. It would be nice to get a warning saying it will stop but no it just shuts off. Not friendly for players with any leg or back issues. If you're not in the fairways all the time you end up doing a lot of walking to get to your ball with this type of cart system. I see in the paper today that this course is a Wildlife Sanctuary so I'm guessing that has something to do with not wanting carts in certain areas but at least warn the people in the cart that they are getting close and it will shut off.
"BEAUTIFUL COURSE"
1st and foremost, this is a "BEAUTIFUL COURSE". Course has 4 sets of tee boxes. Black's- Green's- White's-Yellow's. With no Red's one would think the Yellow's were for the women. I played the whites. Course designed not to have the cart paths interfere with play. Just, don't play this course on a cart path only day. This left longs walks up and down hills (did I say up & down hills) to your ball (IN THE FAIRWAYS). This killed my hips and knees. Back side: If you only drive the ball 185-205 average, like I do, this left for long irons shots or fairway woods into the greens (most 170+). It's hard to get a fairway wood or 3-4 iron to hold the greens. Front side was nice, averaging, 135-140 into the greens. Maybe I should have played the Yellow tees on the back side. But how do you switch in the middle of a round? Courses of this caliber usually have a Tee Box for the Seniors as not to leaving them hanging or playing 100 yard par 3’s and 300 yards or less par 4’s. Still got a little life left in me. Maybe if it wasn’t still wet from the rain the night before I would have gotten more of a roll on the drives. Bottom line the course was “GREAT” people were even “BETTER”. Will try to play again when it’ dry.
Great course, well worth the money
Driving range is down the road and you need to buy tokens at the course pro shop. Other than that, everything was well organzied. Fairly open front side, in very good condition, GPS on carts so you could see the entire hole and get a sense of distances. A few holes on the back side were tree lined but generally tough to get in too much trouble and fairways and greens were in great shape. A few dollars more than most of the nearby courses but well worth it.
Challenging greens
Fun course, challenging greens, you have to keep it in play to score. GPS on carts helps a bit with distance but I preferred a range finder for more accurate distance on par 3's.
good value on golfnow.com
Played Sunday August 18th for the first time and had a positive experience. Nobody there to set up our clubs on a cart upon arrival so we helped ourselves to the nearest one. Very good condition all in all and the greens were very fast. Many ball marks on the greens but they rolled true. Pace of play was great and overall enjoyable. Need to bring your putting game for this course............
