Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2016 #14)
Reviews
greens need to be mowed.
Needs work. Good for price and a quick round but too short.
Greens Are Open!!!
I finally got a chance to play this courses greens. It was well worth the wait and the price (Golf Now Prices). I'll be back.
WARNING - Horrible condition, do not go. Waste of money
As they do advertise they are using temporary holes, don't fall for it if you are at all trying to play real golf. These 'temporary holes" are merely a hole in the "fairway" before the green. This was the biggest waste of 15 dollars I have ever spent. The attention to detail is far from present even if you look past the temporary greens. This course needs to closed until completed if they ever want someone to step back on that course. Horrible.
Absolutely terrible.
Paid $20 and I want my money back. Fire ant mounds on the green. Not to mention that the "greens" had been moved to the very wet fairway. Actual greens are being worked on? They failed to mention this when I called. Several swanp like puddles on the course in the late afternoon despite the fact that it hadn't rained for several days. Staff hated their lives and it showed. Don't go.
The staff was the only great feature
This course had the (temporary) greens moved about 30-60 yards closer and their was no yard markers on all the holes. Horrible greens!!!!
New greens are filled in and I'm itching for the course to open them up for general play.
Course is very short with the temporary greens. Still a great place to go and "practice" with your irons. Right now it is very much an executive course that you can just play with your irons. Good value for the money.
Awful, disgrace to the game of golf.
Wish I had read the last review. I was told "Some of" the putting greens were under constriction, this was not the case. ALL of the greens were under construction. The greens are carved our circles 50 yards from the actual greens. So there is no distance; by the way for first timers, there are no course layout on the scorecards or near the holes. First time I have ever pitched from the Tee box on a par 3. This course needs major work. Fairways have been over run by St Augustine. Putting greens, mind you are carved from in the middle of the fairways. Even the practice putting greens are St. Augustine, thick too.
course in bad shape.
The course is in awful condition. The flags
were moved 60-100 yds forward on most greens.
You were basically putting in the Fairway.
I am not sure if this is ongoing work at the
course or just a one off that day.
Don't waste your time or money (even at $20.00)
This is a glorified par 3 course posing as a full 18 hole course. When we played the greens were being redone, so they are using temporary green from the fairway. There was no mention of this, as it would have made my decision to play there quite different. Even if you look at the regular greens, and estimate playing from the tips, par 4's are slightly more than 250 in some instances, and the "par 5 18", is under 400. To top it off, there is no practice range because there simply is no room. It seems like a par 3 course due to nearly all of the par 4's being so short. There are also several places in which there are no markings whatsoever as to where the next hole is, leaving you guessing if you're going to the next tee box or back to the clubhouse. I played this course years ago before they built a neighborhood around it, and it seems like they had to modify the course to fit more houses in some cases.
Don't play the temp greens.
Course was ok but the temp greens made the holes about 100 yards shorter on all holes. I stopped putting about hole 4 because the temp greens were no good
Under construction
This course is redoing all of it's greens right now and upgrading some of the cart paths etc... I think you need to be fair when reviewing it right now. For the 15 dollars for 18 holes with a cart I think its more than fair. Should be real nice when completed. Plays real short right now but this never was a full length course to begin with. All in all I think the people are nice and the course is getting upgraded so no complaints here.
The course is in bad shape.
Do not play at Heron Lakes. Although they may have good deals, the course is in awful condition. There are temporary greens on every hole, and most of the holes are severely shortened as well. It's more of a par 3 course than an 18 hole golf course.
This course was awful
Temp greens were awful. No distance established. Very short. A few holes couldn't have been more than 50 yards. Dissappointed and probably will never go back again
Great course but under construction
This is a great golf course but they currently are redoing all of its greens so the course is incredibly short and simple. Once they finally finish their repairs the course should be in great shape.
SUCKED
I will never go back to the course again. Everything from the fairways to the greens were TEMP. they spread blue stuff all over the fairways. NOT WORTH THE MONEY......
Under construction
Heron Lakes has temporary greens so the each hole is a lot shorter right now. They are currently working on the fairways so most of them are roped off (cart path only with carts) Right now it's hard to judge your distance with out the accurate markers. Hope they finish the upgrades soon! It does help one improve their short & mid range game! But I was able to hit the greens on par 4's with my driver & 3 wood.
I did shoot my best round ever 88... (I've only been playing 6 months)
Construction through June; avoid
Heron Lakes is normally a decent course, though very short. It's ideal for beginning golfers and children. Normally the course condition is fair to decent
Currently, as of April 21, 2013, the entire course is under construction through June 2013. They are redoing ALL of the greens and MOST of the fairways simultaneously. Conditions are AWFUL.
I'd suggest saving your $20 and playing bear creek challengers course. It's in much better condition and is a short course like Heron Lakes.
Do note the staff at Heron is very friendly and accomodating. I was very pleased.
Very cheap place to play in under 3 hours
I like Heron Lakes most of the time. Unfortunately, for some reason they have removed all 18 greens and currently using temporary greens. They do not appear to be re-sodding or re-planting the greens. Not sure why the scraped them all off. The temporary greens are okay for very high handicappers that don't know the difference between decent greens and what they currently have. Still a few holes that require a very tight drive. If you are in a hurry, want to save money and are just looking to loosen up your swing, Heron Lakes is okay. The green fee is very attractive.
Not a good experience
I know the course was not expensive but they should
Say that the course is in really bad conditions for renovations.
I only play for one hour and leave.
I Will not come back to this course until the
Renovations are done.
