Reviews
Straight and Narrow
Heron Lakes is not a 4 star course by any means but it allows you to practice keeping your ball straight. There are new greens now but they are not in great shape they appeared to be in need of a cut. If you don't mind the course being short and focus keeping your ball in play you will find this course to be fine. Plus at only $15 to play on golf now it is a good outing.
wasted time & money
I'm in Houston for training. I called the course before I made my tee time. I asked what condition is the course in.I was told it was in great shape. I asked if they had aerated the greens, I was told no. The course also needs new marker for distance. I played 6 holes and went back for a refund but I was told by there manager no that he couldn't do anything for me! I fairways were full of stickers, everything else but grass!
Terrible greens
The course is short lots of par threes only one par five. The greens were super sandy but if they are taken care of they should be good in a few weeks.
ehh
I play this course about twice a month only because it's cheap and I'll decide to play on my way home. Conditions are good but not horrible. Putting greens although redone and look green are not in good condition to work on your putting game. The only positive I really have is no one is ever out there so I can play as fast or slow as I want.
Can practice your short game
This golf course is not well maintained and holds water on nearly every hole. If you don't hit the ball in the middle of the fairway, there's a chance you may not find your ball. However, if you can play for the right price, this is an excellent course to practice your short game, with the exception of putting. The greens are thick and furry, similar to the first or second cut of most other golf courses.
Short game practice.
Forget what the fairway looks like, good place to practice short game. Finished round in 2.5 hrs. so long ad you go past really slow players.
narrow lots of water
if you can play good , you con score low cause its a par 68
Good Course to work in your irons
I love to play at Heron Lakes and leave the long sticks in the car. Great course to work on your irons and short game. Price is fair (best to grab a special through Golf Now). You can have a nice round in 3 hours or less. Friendly staff and great food at the attached restaurant. The new greens are a bit slow but consistent from #1 to #18. You can tell work is being done to improve the tee boxes. Overall a great value for your money. I highly recommend for a practice session with just your irons.
Not worth your time and money
I paid $10 bucks for the round and I left after 8 holes. I was really disappointed.. All the hype about the renovations made. Greens were good but slow & hairy. Every putt is short by several feet. Fairways are the same as before... Horrible. All fairways are weeds and st. Augustine grass. The course is short and extremely narrow. The mosquitoes are bad here and were still biting me through my clothes. I won't ever come back... Even if they gave me free membership.
short short short
Par 68, very short course, i used my driver once. For the Golfnow price, i would go back just to work on irons and course management. do not expect much from the clubhouse staff.
Short course.Very fun!!
This course is short but very fun. Great value!! I will go back for sure.
So much better!
The recent renovations to this course have made a huge difference. The new greens are light-years better than before, and while there is still work to be done, the course is a great value for the casual player.
Not bad for the new golfer and the price.
The course is fairly short and not too dificult, but overall not bad for someone just starting to play.
New Carts and Improved Greens
It seems that the course management have decided to reinvest in the course as they have new carts and the greens seem to be much improved. Not a particularly long course however good value for money and can get round pretty quickly as not too busy
course in great condition
Since the greens have been redone and the rest of the course has been well maintained it is a way better experience. The new carts are well appreciated. I think there should be a few more par fives though, but a lot of fun regardless. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall a good value and experience.
The course has great greens, large and in excellent condition.
I played the course 10/3/2013 and was apprehensive before booking the tee time after reading all the negative reviews before booking my tee time. But I can tell you flat out this is a wonderful golf course. All the fairways were in great shape and the greens were outstanding, some of the best I have played on in a long time and I play every week.
I recommend all those golfers who wrote their negative comments play the course again and see what has been done there, I am sure they will be surprised. They have new golf carts, and the course is in excellent condition.
I plan to play there at least once a week from now on.
A happy golfer
Greens slow and tall
not that enjoyable, and not that many par 5 on the course
New Greens + New Carts = Short, Tight Value Course
$20 for 18 holes with new (slow) greens and carts. What more can you ask for from a tiny course right off the beltway? Well, you could ask for a driving range (they don't have one) to help prevent you from losing 3 balls on the first hole, but other than that the course was fun and ultimately a great value.
If you're hacking your way through each round, like me, bring at least a dozen balls. Be prepared to enjoy losing a few of those balls to some challenge water hazards and hate losing even more to dense trees and fenced off power line runs. Overall I'd do it again for $20 but not for more than $30.
