Golf Advisor: Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Golf Courses (2016 #14)
Reviews
Decent cheap course.
All greens are temporary, cuts out over 1,000 yards through the course. The fairways are in rough condition, tee boxes are all torn up, and temporary greens are very uneven. The course needs better directions, got lost between some holes due to long distances from one green to the next holes tee box or a few unmarked holes. All in all it is a decent course for beginners, especially with the low green fees.
The course is in terrible shape. They have lost all the greens and temporary greens are in use.
The course is in terrible shape. None of the greens are in place. Temporary greens are being used. Distances are all wrong. This course should be closed down until proper repairs have been completed. We were not informed when we booked the t time. The green fee should be refunded.
All greens temporary
Haven't played in over a year so this was a great course to go out and just knock some shots around. It will be nice to see the course complete after the greens have been repaired.
never again will I play this course because of the staff on Good Friday morning.
Friday when I woke up around 5 am and booked for one player. It really was not the staff at Heron Lakes, I think it was a computer glitch, but I booked a tee time for Good Friday at 7:10 am wanted to be the 1st one to start playing so I wouldn't have to wait on people and I could get it all done early and still have the rest of the day to do other things. I arrived at the course and didn't have my printed copy from Golf Now . com. Usually when that happens the staff looks it up on the computer but the blonde headed women said to go to my email for confirmation, so I looked on my I-phone and it was not there. I know I booked a tee time with Golf now. com because it said I paid 1.99 and that I still owned 20 dollars and some change at the course.
The Marshall was inside the shop when I was explaining my situation, in the end he picked up a wedge and waved it in the air saying to the blonde head women" If anyone gives you anymore lip that He would wrap this wedge around their neck," I looked up at him and he went outside to tell a group of boys that actually got my tee time, about the incident , the reason I know this is because I had already put my golf clubs in the first cart closest to the tee box next to their cart and when I went outside to unload my cart , all of the boys busted out laughing. Will I play at this course again, I don't care if its the cheapest around, I will go elsewhere.
Not good
When the course is done being repaired it might be better but as of now this course is not goo at all!!!
Where to start?
I found the course to be in complete shambles. The "greens" were just holes in the middle of the fairway. The actual greens themselves were covered in sand , which in return cut the course by 20-30yrds on every hole. At one point there was a 50 yard par 3.
This is definitely a course for someone to practice hitting off the tee box and thats it. The fairways were hard packed dirt and the green themselves growing with weeds.
The course runs in throw some cookie cutter neighborhoods, whose backyard is the golf course. People throwing the ball to their dog on the course and walking through the course.
On some holes there were no tee boxes and there were also construction paths in the middle of the fairway.
The one plus was that if you did manage to sling your ball into the drink you could retrieve your ball as there was hardly any water!
While my expectations were not completely high, I felt cheated out of my money and my valuable time. Better luck saving your money or paying a few bucks more for a much better course and experience over all.
Course need a lot of Work
I have played at Heron Lakes for a few years now and come back due to the staff and the price but the course nees a lot of work. The greens are being re-done now but the grass is realy chopped up and rough and the woods could be thinned out a little.
Over-all I would continue to come back as they are working on the course and it will get better.
Just hope the price does not sky rocket once the course is finished.
The course has great patentional butAs of 3/24/13 every green is under repair. They're all turned into giant sandtraps
It is worth it if you just want to have some fun. Super easy course
Horrible Conditions
Stay Away...horrible course conditions...yardage not clearly marked...greens unfinished and lots of sand in fairways
Horrible greens
The reconstruction of the course causes major problems and scorecard is not accurate with the par numbers due to construction.
18 temporary greens...what gives
Had I known that the course has been shortened to 3500 yards and has 18 temporary green, I would not have wasted my time going there. It was kind of a joke calling it a golf course. It will hopefully improve when they finish the greens, but that will be a long time coming...save your time and money and play somewhere else.
Not really a golf course right now
This is will be a fun little course for those just learning how to play golf, but for now, it is not worth your time. They are redoing all of the greens at this time. the current greens have been created out of spots on the fairway. Make sure you are aware of this issue before you pay to play.
This is not a real course
Nothing was great about this course.
we started next to the beltway and a bunch of apt
Under Construction
Course was under construction so there were no greens. Putting off the fairway is not a good thing. Ok if you just want to go hit the ball around.
Understaffed
Played fast and not too much waiting. The greens were rough and requires attention.
this course isn't worth paying over $20
I played this course in the second year it was open. I didn't like the condition of the course, but I attributed that to the fact that it was a new course. That was 10 Years ago. The course has changed only in the fact that more buildings have been built around it. The course was extremely soggy, perhaps over watered. the greens were in terrible shape! A green should roll smoothly, not humping and bumping all the way to the hole because patches of grass are missing; This was on every hole. Not one green was in good shape. It seems like they are not putting the money into the course that is required to make it enjoyable.
Good layout needs attention
Price was great. Greens were had not been mowed and were very slow and bumpy. I think they had been resowed . Have been there before when the greens were much better. will try this course again later. And the Sandtrap Grill Has Great food.
Not spectacular, but a fun round of golf
The course does need some attention and the Greens were a bit harry, but still fun to play. If you’re looking for a Redstone quality in a course, you’ll be disappointed, but if you’re looking for a fun round of golf with some challenging holes and the need to use every club in your bag this is a good place to play. The fairways are narrow; and if you miss the fairway you’ll lose a few balls because they are crowned and have a habit of rolling into the brush if you’re a bit left or right.
