Golf in the Wilderness
Wonderful break to golf In The Wilderness with beautiful terrain and trees! Not a house in sight... could not believe I was still in the Houston area!
AWESOME Course Layot - Fantastic Condition
This was my first time playing this course, and if I lived in the Houston area, this would be a course which I would play over and over again.
Everyone I encountered at the course was super friendly and fantastic. Person in the pro shop was very friendly. Since I have never before played the course, they gave me a yardage book and offered all kinds of suggestions and advise.
I played as a single. Right before I was scheduled to tee off, the starter sent out two groups of four so the starter let me tee off on hole number three which is right by the first tee and then at the end of hole #18 I played holes #1 and #2. The starter was super nice and friendly.
Overall, excellent course in very good condition.
The greens were in fantastic condition with very few non-repaired ball marks. The greens are huge, so even if you are on the green, a two putt is not a given. The greens were smooth, rolled true and quite fast.
The course flowed nicely and was really fun to play. The front nine is back and forth with several holes right next to others. The back nine is much more open and wandering with very few holes next to other holes.
Due to the fact the course in near water and in a "wilderness area" there are lots of mosquitoes so make sure to take some bug spray with you. One of my favorite courses I have played in the Houston area. Great Course. Great Value. Great Fun!!!
Wilderness is a great value for the Dollar
Wow what a fun track. Greens were in good not perfect shape, held well but were a bit slow. Fairways could use some TLC. Rough was long and SOGGY...
All in all it is a great value for a really good track. Interesting holes. Par 3’s are tough for women but most of the other holes are fair.
Beautiful track, but mosquitoes were insane
In my opinion this is the best public course in the greater Houston area - that's even without accounting for the fact that it's less expensive than many inferior courses in the area.
It's a beautiful course in excellent condition, has some character in the layout, forces thought with some risk/reward shots, and is surrounded by nature (not a subdivision, airport, industrial area, etc.). The staff is welcoming, the price is right, pace of play was great - it's really as good as you can get around here.
My 1 and only complaint is the mosquitoes. Wow are they tenacious and swarming. I should have worn pants and a long sleeve undershirt - nonetheless, I will be back again.
Great course
Everyone is always very friendly and helpful. Course is in great shape and always fun to play. It is very challenging and can play long. I will play again
Course rained out
Played 4 holes and Thunder & Lightning stopped play.
Course was immaculate!
I haven't played a better groomed course anywhere near Houston. Wish they had chicken salad for a sandwich my wife wanted and the burger we had instead was incredibly salty! Entire staff was very helpful otherwise and will give the grill a try again next visit. The course is interesting in its contours, layout, and variety of hole lengths.
Wilderness Snday
Excellent course, really enjoyed the round. Starter was awesome and let us start on the back nine as there where was a significant wait on the front. made the turn in 1.5 hours and had a slight slow down playing the front but was tolerable. Greens were fantastic and very tricky given the speed and undulation. The course flowed nicely and was in good shape given a few fairways were still wet from rain. Putting this one in my rotation for sure!
Awesome Outing!
I drove more than 80 miles to get to the course and it was worth every mile and wrong turn. All the staff was super friendly and welcoming and the course was one of the best i’ve ever played, all around couldn’t have had a better experience.
Good venue
Great weather for August. Course in really good condition. Staff friendly and nice facility.
Amazing as always
No surprise that the golf course was in perfect condition!!!
Overall great course
The guy at the front desk was very nice and the course is in great shape based on the heat wave we are enduring. My only gripe was that there were three foursomes ahead of me starting on hole 13 and the remaining holes took 90 mins to complete bc they were all so freakin slow. Otherwise it was a great time.
As usual, wonderful...but
My group travels to The Wilderness from Houston several times a year. Our round was, like always, terrific, except for one thing...most of the on-course water jugs were empty. Saturday afternoon, heat index in triple digits, and no water to drink on the course.
When I reported the foregoing to the pro shop after the round, I was told there had been a delay in finding the key to the locks of the water jug boxes. BUT THE BOXES DID NOT HAVE LOCKS AT ALL!
Bottom line-- a course this good, with people as experienced and professional as they are, should NEVER run out of on-course water.
Great Course
This course is in great shape. Really enjoyed our round today, even though it was cart path only due to rain. The greens were a bit slow, but had lots of undulations. The fairways are generous, but scoring well is still tough. Mosquitoes are everywhere, so give yourself a good dose of bug spray prior to teeing off. Overall, I would definitely recommend this course
