Challenging par-3, #8 Photo submitted by ConnieBlack on 05/26/2014
Hidden gem!
Good views, great golf, no houses, friendly staff!
Roller coaster greens.
Greens are key to make score. I love it. But, fairways need to improve, though.
Nice Course But
I played this course on a Sunday and got paired up with 3 local guys which were really helpful with course knowledge, the only bad thing I have to say about this course is, they had a tournament of young kids about 6 years old and over, with their parents or coaches giving them lessons on every shot, I'm all for getting kids to play golf at an early age, but having them play on a Sunday when the course is crowded was not smart, we had to jump around from #3 to #14-18 then #10-14 came back and played #5-9 and finally go finish on #4 all this to be get around the kids and be able to finish in under 5 hrs. other then that the course is very nice.
huge very fast geens
Very playable all levels. Huge greens be on right level. Fun not extremely long. You will love it.
Nice day for a round of golf
Decided to take advantage of the recent temperature drop and play a round at Wilderness. I've played here a few times but it's been 5 or 6 years so it was like playing a new course.
They had us going out on 10 and the greens looked they had been sanded a few days ago. It's not a long course but you need to place your shots.
I've read other reviews that would compare Wilderness with Cypresswood Traditions. And while I can see the similarities with all the mature trees, it's not near as manicured as Cypresswood.
Overall I enjoyed the day and will return.
5 1/2 hr round. Marshals doing anything about pace of play.
Have played this course several times and love the course. This was the third time I have has a greater than 5 hr round. Not sure ill try it again.
Loved it !
Beautiful course. Aptly named-no houses, man-made structures within sight. Typical South Texas terrain. Very helpful staff. Highly recommended
This course has never let me down
I wish I lived closer (38 mile drive) I'd play this course daily, love it love it, love it!!
Great course!
The entire staff is extremely friendly and the course was in amazing shape! Greens and fairways were in great shape!
Challenging and fun to play.
This course was challenging from the regular mens tees. It has wide open fairways and a few bottle necks that will make you pause. The course was very wet when I played and of course we were restricted to the paths. The fairways drained very well and I didn't notice a lot of standing water. The greens were large, rolling, fast and soft. I backed up mid irons from 1 to 2 feet. One very well struck wedge sucked the ball back about 10 to 15 feet then rolled down the slope. Pretty exciting to see your ball do that from the fairway! The staff is friendly and I always have fun getting my butt kicked by this course. I'm a single digit handicap at my area courses but I haven't broken 80 on this one. If you like a challenge and want to play a beautiful course, play this one! I drive 50 miles to play here and it's worth it every time!
Best course south of houston
Compared the course to cypress wood tradition course. very beauiful layout and greens. couple of mosquitos though
Awesome course
The course is in great shape and the layout is just outstanding my biggest complaint were the Mosquitos. Bug spray did not even stop them from attacking you. But overall the course is well worth the drive.
Fun course
Good course condition, particularly the greens. The only negative was the mosquitos! Will play again in cooler weather.
The Wilderness is a fantastic golf experience!
Great and friendly staff! Course was awesome!! Had a great time!!! They are truly customer focused!
Love the layout. To expensive without golfnow
Love the course. Friendly people. To expensive without golfnow
Nice course, good facility and a solid staff
I walked on at 4 pm as a single. The starter was great and grouped me right away with a threesome. Steady pace of play and nice fairway conditions. Some of the hole locations were a little beat up but nothing that impacted play. Course layout is interesting. Just enough water, trees and sand without being overwhelming. Pay attention to some of the green contours.
nice course
I thought I was getting a good rate through golfnow. The rate at the cousrse was the same only I paid $7 more to golfnow, not what I would call a bargain!
great buy
course is in great shape. greens were rolling great and the fairways were lush.
A Hidden Gem
While it's a lengthy drive down from Houston, my wife and I were totally delighted we took the time to try this great course. This track is well named; it's right in the middle of a major wetland, complete with birds, frogs and deer (and of course, mosquitos). From the rustic clubhouse to the well-maintained fairways to the challenging greens, we thoroughly enjoyed our game. Even the bunkers are very consistent, with adequate sand to ensure you don't hit bottom with a sand wedge. We'll definitely make a return visit.
