Challenging par-3, #8 Photo submitted by ConnieBlack on 05/26/2014
3hr 45 min during the week.
5/19/14
Airiation almost complete. Most holes are filling in nicely. Pace of play was fast (Monday, go figure). Fairways are beautiful for Bermuda. The greens here are a nice change of pace. Lots of undulation and fast. Neat design on all the par 3's, all very different and make you shape shots. Par 5's aren't so long toy have no chance at eagle. Course management is key here, picking the right club. I will be back with some friends next time. Enjoy, go play!
Fine golf course
Very fun layout. Nice Green and pace of play was great. At the time I played, there are a few dry spots on fair way.
Beautiful and well kept.
I always like to play The Wilderness. The greens are well maintained and the fairways tight. The greens had been airiated and sanded but they were still putting with good pace and not too bumpy. It was Saturday and the course was full. At the turn there were 4 groups on number 10 but still finished all 18 in a little over 4 hours. Will play there more and walk. Very enjoyable.
Peaceful Fay
I really like this course. It is challenging but fair. There are a few greens that can have tough pin placements (7, 9, 10, 14, 16). The greens had been punched recently & were a little bumpy, that was the only condition issue. The round was incredibly slow, 5 hours is just too long. Seems like the biggest issue is people not being "ready". When the group ahead clears the green, players are just starting to choose the club, figure out honors, I just don't get it, why do people think playing slow is fun. How about a 3 1/2 hour round and then go have a few beers after the round.
Great Layout without homes to distract!!
Great course however it needs more water because the fairways were hardpan!!
Great experience!
Had a great round yesterday at Wildnerness Golf Club. The course is beautiful and a hidden gem in the Houston area.
A few unique golf greens
I have played this course many times. The greens had been punched so putting was not at its best. The greens are usually consistantly fast. I love playing here especially fAll n spring.
The Wilderness is a challenging course and fun. PlY it if you can you will enjoy zsome unique golf holes.
The pace was not too bad because the course was full.
Very interesting course
Very fair setup, course condition for this time of the year was good only can get better. Pace was over 5 hours due to a tournament on Sunday. No marshals on course. Greens were just punched so a little rough.
Could be a great course
This is one of those reviews where I am projecting what could have been. The staff is very friendly, the course has a good design and is moderately challenging. The major issue I had was with the greens having been aerated within the past week or two as the holes from the process had not closed up. On GolfNow, the A! symbol was not posted when the tee time was selected. Additionally they had sanded the greens (to excess as there were splotches on the greens where you saw sand but no green).
I suspect in a couple of weeks with a little rain, this would be a very good course to play.
South Texas courses could learn a few things from the Wilderness.
Long challenging course with strategically placed bunkers, ball placement very important, course in good shape coming off an unseasonable cold winter. Staff friendly, knowledgeable and ready to accommodate , just wish the local golfers were as happy to see you.

A must play.
A group of 16 played this course on 02/23/2014 and we all were very pleased with the golf experience at the Wilderness. The course was in great shape for the season and the staff was very friendly and professional. A great golf experience that everyone should experience. Thanks
AWESOME UNIQUE GREENS
1st time to play here. Unfortunately dead of winter. But will definitely head back when course is in bloom. Might be the coolest greens in all of Houston area. Lots of slope change and roll pure. Very nice course. Has some Gators too.
Lake Jackson
My wife and I had a great time . We used a coupon on golf now and it was where the drive. Thank you.
Great track
Challenging, fair and fun! Go try it out. You won't be disappointed
Hidden gem!
Good views, great golf, no houses, friendly staff!
Roller coaster greens.
Greens are key to make score. I love it. But, fairways need to improve, though.
Nice Course But
I played this course on a Sunday and got paired up with 3 local guys which were really helpful with course knowledge, the only bad thing I have to say about this course is, they had a tournament of young kids about 6 years old and over, with their parents or coaches giving them lessons on every shot, I'm all for getting kids to play golf at an early age, but having them play on a Sunday when the course is crowded was not smart, we had to jump around from #3 to #14-18 then #10-14 came back and played #5-9 and finally go finish on #4 all this to be get around the kids and be able to finish in under 5 hrs. other then that the course is very nice.
huge very fast geens
Very playable all levels. Huge greens be on right level. Fun not extremely long. You will love it.
Nice day for a round of golf
Decided to take advantage of the recent temperature drop and play a round at Wilderness. I've played here a few times but it's been 5 or 6 years so it was like playing a new course.
They had us going out on 10 and the greens looked they had been sanded a few days ago. It's not a long course but you need to place your shots.
I've read other reviews that would compare Wilderness with Cypresswood Traditions. And while I can see the similarities with all the mature trees, it's not near as manicured as Cypresswood.
Overall I enjoyed the day and will return.
