Challenging par-3, #8 Photo submitted by ConnieBlack on 05/26/2014
Worth The Trip!!!
Awesome course! Beautiful & well maintained. Challenging layout, yet not quirky or unfair. Cool, rustic clubhouse and very friendly staff and marshals. Well worth the short drive from Houston.
Beautiful course
Course is wonderful. True greens--fairways in great shape. Look out for the alligators. Set in a very beautiful natural area with LOTS of water and trees.
Worth the drive!
This course has a great layout, no houses or anything for that matter to block views of nature. From the doe that crossed in front of us to the snake, we took it all in. Although a hot and muggy day we were able to stand it because the pace was great. The maintenance crew would move as we approached - how often do you that? Even had a cart girl making the rounds.
Well worth the drive out south of Houston. Go have a fun round as it does not over penalize for poor shoots but does reward good shots.
Discovered a Gem!!
Played Wilderness for the first time yesterday! What a pleasant surprise!! The course was in excellent condition and has an interesting and somewhat challenging (but fair) layout!! Greens were also interesting and in excellent condition.
Great course
Course was in excellent condition. One of the best courses I've played in the surrounding area. Friendly staff and easily navigable layout.
Great course and staff
Course is in perfect condition. You can tell how much work the crew puts into it. Nice and soft fairways. Greens are immaculate. But the best part is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Most specially the gentleman at the pro shop, Jack. He went out of his way to help and accommodate me, to correct the mistake I made in making wrong date reservation. At golf now. Very professional and accommodating. Playing wilderness is a pleasant and relaxing experience. Definitely endorse it to other golfers.
Great course
This is one of the best courses in the Houston area. The fairways and sand traps are in great shape. 2 and 3 teir greens are fast and tough. Awesome course can't wait to play it again.
Fathers Day
I scheduled a round for Father's Day early enough to have family time afterwards. Since none of my regular golf buddies were able to play, I went as a single. The Marshall paired my up with a threesome which was fine as on A Sunday singles either have to play through a lot or wait on every hole. The course is in excellent shape, as usual. One thing I did notice was the pace on the greens seemed to vary between holes. Over all it was an enjoyable round. I look forward to my next one.
Great minus one thing.
This is a beautiful course and is super clean in every way. Greens were superb, and the holes were challenging enough. Especially the under rated par fives.
My only knocks are
1) Google will point you in the wrong direction and make you overshoot the runway on 288 if you are coming from Houston.
2) You will die from blood loss if you do not come prepared for the Mosquitos. They are everywhere.
Excellent Friday getaway
Nice shaded parking lot. Courteous staff in club house. Warm up facilities are excellent ( practice green , chipping, sand trap , and driving range). On time tee times. Not over-priced. Well maintained fairways and undulating greens, Fair layout for all handicap levels (pick the tees to fit you handicap). Sand traps were among the best in the Houston area, Greens were large, receptive and fast but not "unfair" pin placements. Well worth the 45 minute drive from southeast Houston
Hidden Gem
The Wilderness is well worth the drive down to Lake Jackson. From Missouri City, it takes me about 40 minutes.
The link style course is secluded in a wooded refuge. The fairways are wide, but the greens are protected by deep bunkers. There's not a flat spot on the greens, and they role fast and true.
Love this course - Challenging & Beautiful
This golf course is a good test of golfing skills and beautiful.
Fun layout and challenging. Front 9 is a good warmup for the back 9, as everything gets tighter and more scenic. It actually gets a little shorter on the back 9, so they throw you a bone there.
The greens are complex and challenging. They always roll true and are fast, but be ready to three putt a few times because of the complexity of the humps on the greens and the larger influencing mounds around the greens.
The par-5s are my favorites. Pack a lunch for playing holes 9 and 18, they are difficult and long. I'll return early and often to play this hidden gem. It is worth the drive from Houston and all of Houston's suburbs.
Great course to play!
This is a great course!
The course is kept up well, it's beautiful and scenic and peaceful. It's also challenging and has good practice areas to prepare! The people there are so friendly also! It is tops on my list!
3hr 45 min during the week.
5/19/14
Airiation almost complete. Most holes are filling in nicely. Pace of play was fast (Monday, go figure). Fairways are beautiful for Bermuda. The greens here are a nice change of pace. Lots of undulation and fast. Neat design on all the par 3's, all very different and make you shape shots. Par 5's aren't so long toy have no chance at eagle. Course management is key here, picking the right club. I will be back with some friends next time. Enjoy, go play!
Fine golf course
Very fun layout. Nice Green and pace of play was great. At the time I played, there are a few dry spots on fair way.
Beautiful and well kept.
I always like to play The Wilderness. The greens are well maintained and the fairways tight. The greens had been airiated and sanded but they were still putting with good pace and not too bumpy. It was Saturday and the course was full. At the turn there were 4 groups on number 10 but still finished all 18 in a little over 4 hours. Will play there more and walk. Very enjoyable.
Peaceful Fay
I really like this course. It is challenging but fair. There are a few greens that can have tough pin placements (7, 9, 10, 14, 16). The greens had been punched recently & were a little bumpy, that was the only condition issue. The round was incredibly slow, 5 hours is just too long. Seems like the biggest issue is people not being "ready". When the group ahead clears the green, players are just starting to choose the club, figure out honors, I just don't get it, why do people think playing slow is fun. How about a 3 1/2 hour round and then go have a few beers after the round.
Great Layout without homes to distract!!
Great course however it needs more water because the fairways were hardpan!!
Great experience!
Had a great round yesterday at Wildnerness Golf Club. The course is beautiful and a hidden gem in the Houston area.
