About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Great Links experience
Houston National offers a good links golf experience. We enjoyed the challenge with some holes more difficult than others. The course offers a good mix of challenge with the links layout, water hazards and off fairway rough areas. Had some nice sunshine but the wind can help you and hurt you in a few minutes...

Greens - okay
Fairways - terrible lots of dry hard patches with no grass.
Bunkers - some were okay others were dried out and hard.

The fairways need Jesus!!
Greens are in great shape….fairways, not so much. I’ve never seen conditions of fairways this bad.

Everything But the Course
This was my fifth time playing this course and I have to say, I was very disappointed with the shape of the course. The only part of the course I could honestly say was quality were the tee-boxes. The fairways were rock hard (which was weird because of all the rain we have been having) with all kinds of patches/parts with no grass at all. Hitting the fairway didn't even feel like a reward a lot of the time because what you were playing off of was not even grass. The greens were not as bad as the fairway, but still not the quality I have seen before when I have played here in the past. About 9 of the greens were very nice, rolled true, and receptive, the rest were questionable, with some patches of no grass about 5 yards wide. All-in-all, I will give the course the benefit of the doubt coming out of winter, but that being said I will probably give it a few months before I play again to see if they can right the ship. Everything besides the course was great, staff was great, carts are SUPER comfortable, layout is fun, and putting green and rang were great as well.

Good Course
Really like the layout of this course. Nice mix of easier and hard holes. Conditions are pretty good, they are working on the traps and some grass repair, but overall good. Weather was great, a little brisk for me, but sunny and just a little wind.

Not worth $
Golf is in bad shape ,dirt patches all over the place . Lots of bunkers but ALL had standing water in them looked like they had next to no sand in them. Greens were over seeded. Just not worth $75.

Badly Flooded COurse
It's sad to see this course going downhill like this! Too many bare spots and too much flood damage. Hope it will recover soon. Not worth $45. at all.
