About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Hotter then expected
The heat index was expected to be a manageable 102 but I knew I was in for it by the 5th kole as the wind died and the heat hit a stifling 105. Fortunately the clubhouse had cool and comfortable seating with ample ice. Being 72, I availed myself to moving up to the red tees. Fairways were soft from recent rain. This course drains very well. Greens were in good shape, fairways were also good. Traps hadn’t dried out yet. Of special note…thanks to the guy washing down carts at the barn. I thought I left air buds in my cart and he took the time to begin searching the place. I found them and thanked him for his time. Good staff!
Great value around Cypress
The greens are in great shape, the fairways B+ and the layout will always be fun from the tips. this is the best value I could find in the area. Lastly, the range balls are good, the mats soft and putting green is a work of art, rolls like 9,5 to 10

Course in Brown Condition
With the heat and no rain in Texas the fairways were in bad condition with no grass to hit shots. Green in good condition but fairways were in my opinion unplayable

Probably my favorite option for NW Houston. Good course, fair price, and a lunch tacked on to your green fees.

What happened to the fairways
Our group has played here for over 5 years. Usuallly playing twice per week. At one time the course was in excellent conditions and the price was reasonable ($31 for seniors). Now the rate is over $47 and the conditions are the worst for any course in the area. We will not be back for this price and conditions. This is unfortunate because we have had nothing but excellent interaction with all of the personnel at the club..

Drought golf
This area is over 20 inches short on rain for the year but the greens were better then expected. They had been aerated and were showing signs of tender loving care. Balls not quite taking breaks and a bit slow as can be expected but obvious well watered. Fairways were baked which gave me plenty of roll. Not crowded, my playing time was a brisk 3.5 hours.
Sadly the popcorn machine was out of order.

Bad condition
Greens had been punched recently and no mention on the listing. Course was in very very dry condition. Just looks like they’ve let it go

Best course for a reasonable price
This course is perfect. Never rushed or have to wait. It’s always in good shape, everyone treats you with respect and they do a lot for the junior golfers! I definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants a stress free round of golf at an affordable price!

7/16/2022 - Course in a bad shape
Greens spotty and bumpy, fairways in horrible shape. Shocked to see the course like this, as previously it has been very good. Now maybe worth 30 to 40 bucks in current condition.

Houston National not worth it!
It’s just not worth the $77 green fee. Yes, it includes cart, 1 beverage, and lunch (hot dog or burger buffet style w/bag of chips).
The greens are impressive, fast, and in great shape; yet a bit saturated with water. So saturated that several green side bunkers are small ponds with algae in them. This is all I can really say that’s sort of positive about this course. The tee boxes and fairways are in horrible shape. We saw a variety of grass on the tee boxes and fairways; from St. Augustine, Crab grass, Fescue, to Bermuda. We also saw areas with no grass in the fairway, I’m talking areas 20’x30’ of dirt.
It seems the course is spending all their time, money, and water on the greens and not on the rest of the course.
I would not recommend this course to anyone for the money. This course played more like a $35 round cart included.

Hopefully a seasonal issue
The greens are in good shape but the fairways are dead grass and hard dirt. Houston is in a drought but the course is still charging normal rates for a sup-par course.
