About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Newly painted parking lot nearly empty
I was wondering if higher gasoline prices and a cool day in the 50s affected the turnout on a midweek round. The course is in pretty good shape, some po Ana trying to invade greens like on a lot of area courses but the greens were smooth and quick. The number 3 par 3 hole was in a tough front right position…I did well to bogey after finding the left front bunker.. I really enjoy the layout, especially the last two holes as well as the second. My favorite course.

Pleasant Surprise
New to area and glad to have discovered the course. In addition to a solid layout and good condition, staff was friendly and range was tops! I would recommend without hesitation. Even included a burger, chips and drink.

So many maintenance issues negatively impacting a once nice golf course. Cart barn/beverage area looked like it has been completely ignored.

Poor customer service
Had a prepaid tee time on 2/26. It was raining and 40 degrees. Called the course and they wouldn’t allow a refund. Poor form….

Where is the grass.
Very bare fairways and wash-outs all along the rough and around the greens It is hard to chip around the greens because of no grass.

Challenging course
Hard links style course. Fast greens. Lots of elevation (for Houston). A lot of thought lies. Bring your best ball striking and be accurate!!
I’ve played this course 30+ times. It’s fun when you’re hitting straight and if not your score card will show it.

Challenging
Great layout. Watch out for the 17 and 18 holes. The landing zone is limited. Too long of a drive puts you into trouble.

Windy day caro path only on a dry fairway
No reason to be cart path only. I if they need to recondition the course must close one day of the week until is done

Weather monkey wrench
A forecast of temps in the 70s and a less than 20% chance of rain led to a no brainer to reserve a round later that day and to wear shorts. By the back nine, after the thermometer dropped into the 60s under a persistent light rain, breezes became chilling as we were soaked to the bone. That nobrainer was the forecaster who busted one up big time. Challenging conditions did a number on some beginner golfers in foursomes, who persisted in carting across par 3s like the 14th. Of course they refused to waive us through, staying in jeopardy loitering just beyond the ridge on the long par 5 12th, out of sight while my long hitting partner launched a 350 yard missile down wind. A guy with a blue flag came roaring back towards our tee after having his tower buzzed.

Good day on the course
The greens and the fairways were in good shape! We had no wait time for the entire round. It was a very good round today. Play a couple of days a week and this was a pleasant surprise. Thanks Houston National, well done !!
