About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Not in good condition
Greens have uneven growth and the fairways have dry, sandy patches on them.

"Everything's Windy"
Chose a windy and overcast day to play Houston National. Even with the late tee time, I expected to join a group but hardly anyone was playing..As I played fairly well, I remembered the challenge of this course: difficult Green placements, often over water; and tight layouts.
While the traps were in good shape, areas of the fairways were bare. I expected the course to be in better shape. Maybe not so much due to the winter temperatures. For a course of its stature, I hope there is a robust effort to repair and upgrade the grass this spring..If you like challenging greens even in winter conditions National"s got your back. Overall, a good day amd place to play.

Not worth the money
Greens were inconsistent and couldn’t tell the fairway from the rough most of the time. Paid upwards of $70 for the round (included a burger/hotdog and range balls which was nice) but the course isn’t worth more than $35 to play.

The fairways were terrible. Dried out, eroded, etc. greens were decent. For $70 not worth the money!

After the winter siege
Pipes were yet to be repaired after the bad freeze so no grill or rest rooms at the Houston National pavilion. Fortunately next door the Sterling Golf club’s facility was unaffected. I did miss an uphill 20 footer for a par on 18! which would’ve broken a 90 for me but no complaints on the greens which rolled true. The last couple of holes crisscross a creek and they are my favorite holes.

Super friendly people
Not the courses fault but no grass. Hopefully when the weather gets better the course will get better. Front desk made it easy

Good course High Price
I love this course and have played many times because during the week they have senior rate starting at age 55. However, on the weekend you can't play with senior rate and the rate is 70.00 and IMO that is way way way out of line. I know all courses are high now days and it won't be long before they price themselves out of the normal guy being able to afford to play golf. However, it did come with a drink and a burger after the round and the burger was outstanding.

Worth it if you can play for $50
This course is nice and offers a challenging, scenic course for your enjoyment. I don’t think this course is quite on the same level as Black Horse that is also in the area. If found to be same price black horse gets the nod, but if found to be around $50 I’ll take this course every time!

Bounce back from the freeze
Hard to believe a week ago we were dealing with no water or power. Too bad the club house at the course was not spared but I must say I was pleased with the conditions of the course.
