About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

I've Always Enjoy the course Must Play it 3 or 4 time 2 truly Know Where 2 Hit it! I lost 3 Ball one I could had got but it was in A neighbors yard! Had 2 Respect there property.

Fun round
Played in a foursome today with my buddies and it was the first time at Houston National for all of us. It was a great round needless to say. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The course was great (with the exception of the bunkers.) Tee boxes and greens were in great condition. Fairway was dead but that’s what we get for it being winter.
The green fee included range balls, a great burger, chips, and one drink(beer or fountain). Living 20 minutes away makes this course an easy choice for future rounds.

Soggy and flooded
Tough course conditions day after a storm. The course doesn’t drain well at all. Some fairways collected a lot of water in landing zones, almost all bunkers were flooded. Greens rolled pretty nice though

Great Course, Slow Play
The course was in great condition for the time of year, love the layout. However for whatever reason the back 9 was extremely slow, close to 3hours and the course Marshalls appear to not address the issue

Expected more
First time at Houston. Natl. and it was okay but nothing special. The staff was cordial and the restaurant is open. There are a few interesting holes on the back nine (13, 17, 18), but it's a links course and other than those holes, if you can hit relatively straight the course is not really that hard and there is not a lot of trouble to get into even if you are off the fairway.
The course is pretty abused; tee boxes are torn up, people don't fill/fix their fairway divots or ball marks on the greens, the drainage is terrible, the bunkers are either hard pan, mud, or full of water, and some of the fairways have rain created water hazards that are not supposed to be there.
For the price, I think there are better courses to be played.

Great Layout and good greens.
The design and layout of this course is challenging and interesting. The greens are some of the best that we have played in the past 30 days. However there is no effort to maintain the bunkers. Most are full of water and when they are dry, the sand is tight and compacted. They need to be reworked.

Three days after 3 to 5 inches of rain
Skipping over the sometimes fairway pond on number 12, this course has the best drainage of all the courses I play around Houston. The course was soft as you would expect, but the greens were smooth and fairways and rough had been cut. The second, ninth, 12,, 17 and 18 are all favorites of mine. The 13th green is large, multi tiered, and undulating...a true challenge.. The grill is a great place to hang out with friends or to wait out a rain delay...with a nice open porch. This is my favorite golf course.

Tired of this
For the third straight time played front 9 in 2 hrs. Back 9 took over 2:45!!! On a WEEK day!!! And staff could care less. My friends and I are done. After 12 years NEVER GOING BACK. Too many other good courses out there.
