About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Poor Course Conditions
I was shocked. I couldn't believe the condition of the course. I mean there is simply no excuse, this is not from recent weather but a lack of upkeep. Not worth the money or the drive.

So much potential
There is so much potential with this course. I understand the conditions were not the best and Houston has recently seen some extreme weather, but if you have friendly, helpful staff then you can still really enjoy your round.
If you get a cheap rate, give it a go. Otherwise, play elsewhere.

After the freeze
The course is on its way back to pre freeze conditions, but the facilities, other than the clubhouse and members locker rooms were horrible, very dirty....mud and leaves, it seems that the maintenance staff could have been cleaning up after last night’s rain instead of sleeping in a cart. The bathroom in the bar area was filthy, and the carts are always dirty. I picked up trash on the course as i played, but more could be done to make this place fabulous.

Too many hard , dry dirt and mud areas... bunkers need upkeep, driving range closed.

Great course layout; poor condition
This is a really nice golf course layout and was really fun to play, but the course is beat. Fairways were hard pan and have dry/ dirt patches everywhere, not maintained or watered and the greens are patchy, fuzzy and clumpy. It’s such a shame because the layout is really nice. It was a good value for. a Saturday but I won’t be back again - there are better options at similar value. Let me know when you turn on the sprinkler system and maybe I’ll give it another try.

Not in good condition
Greens have uneven growth and the fairways have dry, sandy patches on them.

"Everything's Windy"
Chose a windy and overcast day to play Houston National. Even with the late tee time, I expected to join a group but hardly anyone was playing..As I played fairly well, I remembered the challenge of this course: difficult Green placements, often over water; and tight layouts.
While the traps were in good shape, areas of the fairways were bare. I expected the course to be in better shape. Maybe not so much due to the winter temperatures. For a course of its stature, I hope there is a robust effort to repair and upgrade the grass this spring..If you like challenging greens even in winter conditions National"s got your back. Overall, a good day amd place to play.

Not worth the money
Greens were inconsistent and couldn’t tell the fairway from the rough most of the time. Paid upwards of $70 for the round (included a burger/hotdog and range balls which was nice) but the course isn’t worth more than $35 to play.

The fairways were terrible. Dried out, eroded, etc. greens were decent. For $70 not worth the money!
