Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club
About
Sculpted by Greg Norman out of the tall grassland prairies and rice fields west of Houston, Meadowbrook Farms is part of a planned 800-acre residential development headed by Landmark National. Norman's layout includes deep-faced sod bunkers, Lil Prong Creek, and a multitude of oaks, pecans, and sycamores that take the golfer toward greens that are extremely hard.
The lack of parallel holes allows for an open, natural setting that is perfect for golf, especially since Norman didn't favor much reshaping-instead, he used the natural topography of the former rice farm.
Holes of note on the front are the 160-yard No. 6 and the 420-yard No. 9, both accented by the tall native grasses. No. 9 involves wetlands in front of the green, which is tough considering the longish approach.
Several holes on the back can destroy your round, including the narrow, doglegging 395-yard No. 10. It's imperative to find the fairway on this one. And No. 15 is short (340 yards), but is loaded with bunkers that are difficult for the high-handicapped hack.
The best hole of the bunch is perhaps No. 18, a 545-yarder that involves a layup of a canal off the tee and two solid shots to reach the green in regulation.
All told, this one is worth the investment. The bag drop service is friendly and prompt, and the clubhouse offers affordable amenities, including a great little bar and grill.
Getting there : From Downtown Houston on I-10, drive west to Grand Parkway (Hwy. 99). Take Grand Parkway south to Fry Rd., then turn right. Take Fry Rd. west for approximately 1.3 miles, and the entrance is on the left.

Glad I got a super deal on green fee otherwise....
Glad I got a super deal on green fees otherwise I would have been asking for my money back. I booked thru Golfnow.com and got a rate of $26.76 which with their fees and taxes ended up being slightly over $30 per person.
The staff is very friendly. The course was moderately crowded for a weekday but pace of play was not an issue.
First couple of holes were not so bad. The greens were a little "thick" but rolled ok. Looked like they needed to be verticut. On hole #3, there were a couple of guys working on a sand trap. Not sure what they were trying to do but they were using the riding rake machine and moving sand around.
After 3, it was evident something was seriously wrong with the bunkers. There was no sand, they were washed out, standing water in some, others just mud.
Once we got to the back side, we started seeing issues with the greens. Huge spots had been sodded. Still other greens nothing had been done and there was huge bare spots. Seems like they have issue with air circulation around those greens. You could see sand had been applied to those bare areas but that was it.
Others have mentioned the rough. I have played a lot of courses in recent months that have very high rough and I am ok with that. The problem at Meadowbrook Farms, is you have the fairway, then maybe 6 or 8 feet of rough and then you have this high dense grass. I consider that to be a bit tight. 15 or 20 feet and then the high stuff...ok. But, this is not a US Open venue.
For $30, I was ok with playing there. I certainly would not pay their walk in rate. If I did, I would be back demanding my money back.
Not sure what is going on here but it is a shame because this used to be a really nice golf course.
Great layout, condition not great for price
Great layout but the course was not in good condition for the price point. Expect more for an $80 rate. Greens were recently top dressed with sand and fertilizer. Certain greens were blocked off for repair; looked like being treated for fungus. Overall, I enjoyed the challenge of the course, but disappointed with the conditions.
Cut The rough
Overall course is not worth the money they are asking!!!!!! Rough is out of control up to your BUTT in spots. Someone needs to wake up and fix the greens and the rough. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greens are beat up!
I've enjoyed playing here several times in the past. It is a challenging course, usually very scenic and well maintained. However, this time was different! There is a lot of construction going on nearby and it is impinging on the course quite a bit, so expect loud machinery and lots of distraction during your swing! Also, the greens are really beat up right now! They are in pretty bad shape and don't roll smoothly. The club should be offering a discounted play rate until they fix the issues with the greens!
Hot but Fun!
We really enjoyed playing Friday. The course was fun and the greens were challenging with lightning speed.
Overall excellent
Greens were not as good as normal. Overall the rest of course made up for the greens conditions. Played twilight round, excellent value at that rate
Awesome course!!!
Very nice course, love to play it!!! I recommend you giving it a try.
Best Condition I have Seen it in
Played Meadowbrook Farms last night (7/15/15). The fairways and tee boxes were in the best condition i have ever seen them. Greens have firmed up a bit and rolling pretty well as well.
Golf
Course was in good shape, greens rolled true. Pretty wide open.
Better course
Fairways were lush and greens putted fast but a little "grainy" (much like Walden Lake Conroe). Nothing but ticks to find in the thick natural rough out of the fairways. Greens were very receptive and rolled true. Tough but fair course. I will be back!
bunkers terrible, rest of course ok
Bunker maintenance worse than a city course, has always been a really nice course, so that was surprising . Maybe too much rain hindered maintainance. Cinco ranch would have been better choice.
Poor course maintenance
After 60+ golfnow tee times book, this is the first time me and my friend felt obligated to leave a review. We have played here earlier this year and it was in decent shape. Since then it looks like it had been neglected. It was in terrible condition. Greens played like concrete pavement, bunkers were cracked dried mud and sand, tee boxes were long. To top it off the front 9 was closed because they were aerating the greens. Great course layout but terrible course maintenance. Highly doubt we will be back, especially for what they charge.
Fun, challeging course but a little over hyped
The course and greens were in excellent condition. The course had more rolling hills than I expected and the fairways opened up beyond the teebox for fair but challenging play. The rough was long grass so errant shots easily disappeared.
Since there were some heavy rains earlier in the week, we were told it was cart path only. But the fairways seems plenty dry for carts though there were some soft spots. My other complaint was complete lack of any ball washers. There was only one at hole 1/10 start and it didn't work. I expected a little more for a semi-premium course. But I would play here again.
Solid course
This is a fine place to play golf. The $50 fee per person was on par with similar courses in the area on the weekend. I don't see paying $75 or more though. There were recent negative reviews, however I will disagree with most of them.
Great shape
Pace at this course is normally slow, took 4 1/2 hours this time, fairways and greens are in good shape. Course looks awesome.
MEadowbrook Review
I played this course on a deal and would play it again if deal is available. Would never pay the regular fees that the course asks for. Only problem I had was that patrons (members) did not seem too happy that the public was invited.
Great course, little pricey
first round here and I really enjoyed it. Interesting layout with lots of risk/reward holes. Well maintained and fun. However pace was horrendous despite having a Marshall role thru every 3-4 holes. Also with a golf now deal for a single, I still paid $75 for a tee time. For me that price point is reserved for the best courses in Houston, and I just didn't feel like this course was in that category. I would go back, but I won't be paying that price to play here again.
Staff Professionalism
The manager, Troy was not very friendly or patient when asked question about a rain check. We got rained out after 3 holes and credited only $25 dollars. When questioned, the rain check went up to $40.00.
We were charged for the 3 holed played which is what I'd expect. He seemed to get aggravated by the questions asked so I involved Mr. Rick, GM who was glad to tell me everything he knew about the rules. I wasn't interested in what he knew but that his staff was not very professional about handling the situation. After speaking with Mr. Ricks, it's clear from his level down, the could use some customer service training.
An overall good golf experience
Course is in pretty good shape. I scored Meadowbrook 4 stars on Value for the Money because the golf carts have gps systems. I think this is absolutely great. Every course should be offering this. Meadowbrook's gps system isn't fancy but gives golfers everything they need to score well.
Great course
Great layout a little but their had been a lot of rain recently and course drained very well will play course again
