Meadowbrook Farms Golf Club
About
Sculpted by Greg Norman out of the tall grassland prairies and rice fields west of Houston, Meadowbrook Farms is part of a planned 800-acre residential development headed by Landmark National. Norman's layout includes deep-faced sod bunkers, Lil Prong Creek, and a multitude of oaks, pecans, and sycamores that take the golfer toward greens that are extremely hard.
The lack of parallel holes allows for an open, natural setting that is perfect for golf, especially since Norman didn't favor much reshaping-instead, he used the natural topography of the former rice farm.
Holes of note on the front are the 160-yard No. 6 and the 420-yard No. 9, both accented by the tall native grasses. No. 9 involves wetlands in front of the green, which is tough considering the longish approach.
Several holes on the back can destroy your round, including the narrow, doglegging 395-yard No. 10. It's imperative to find the fairway on this one. And No. 15 is short (340 yards), but is loaded with bunkers that are difficult for the high-handicapped hack.
The best hole of the bunch is perhaps No. 18, a 545-yarder that involves a layup of a canal off the tee and two solid shots to reach the green in regulation.
All told, this one is worth the investment. The bag drop service is friendly and prompt, and the clubhouse offers affordable amenities, including a great little bar and grill.
Getting there : From Downtown Houston on I-10, drive west to Grand Parkway (Hwy. 99). Take Grand Parkway south to Fry Rd., then turn right. Take Fry Rd. west for approximately 1.3 miles, and the entrance is on the left.

Great course
Good layout. Great shot makers course. Enjoyed the day.
Excellent
Considering the time of the year the course was in very good condition - would play it again!
wonderful course with excellent greens
I was amazed at how great the greens were for this time of year. We had a great time - great golfing at an exceptional course with a great friend in wonderful weather in February! What is not amazing about that!
Pastor Phillip Morris
The Woody Steed
The course was in good shape, always is. Its February, winter conditions on a 72 degree day. Wind was blowing, a three club wind. I'll be back.
New Favorite
Had gotten a lot of rain so it was paths only. Decided to walk. Course was in great shape. Cannot wait till all grass greens up. What a great track....
Excellent course
weather was not cooperating, but the course held up very well!, will definitely play it again(hopefully weather will be better)
Nice layout, but bunkers were swimming pools
Have always like the layout at Meadowbrook and the course is generally in good shape. Today, greens were slow, and bunkers were unplayable.....they should provide a discount when course conditions are below typical conditions!!
Better than most
The course was in the best condition I remember in the last couple years. Greens were a bit slow but that was probably due to the recent rains. Pace of play was slow and no Marshalls on the course to monitor the issue. Only took 5 holes to catch the foursome that teed off 55 minutes before us.
A good value for the money, just find a dry day.
upscale for the common golfer
This is a pure suburban gem. The course is always in fantastic condition. Many challenges on the course and a few risk reward holes. The course always seems to bring out a better golfer in myself. The pro shop is friendly and the wait staff is naturally caring about their customers.
Nice course,slow play
The course is in good shape.Wide fairways. The pace of play is slow.Marshals are there but they don't encourage people to pick up the pace.Even though it was a Fri the course wasn't that crowded.I'll come back but only Mon thru Thurs.
excellent value under hot deals
got a sunday morning tee time at this place for $53 plus tax under the Hot Deals.
course was wet after heavy rain the previous day, it was windy and there were a lot of leaves on the greens.
all in all, great value for a sunday morning tee time.
Nice Course in Katy
This golf course is very open, which is great if your a beginner.
Nice course but not worth the price.
This is supposed to be an upscale track but I have seen public courses in better shape. Like the layout but won't go back unless they reduce the green fees.
Good Course for the area
Greg Norman designed course in Katy. Better than expected with quite a bit of up and down play. Well maintained, good greens, staff was nice. Paid $49 on weekend, good value in the area.
Not worth the green fee
I played today on 9/22 and was disappointed in the conditions for the price. Paid $55 via golfnow.com and that was steep for a Monday morning.
Comments on the course:
No sand in the bunkers...or they haven't been worked/maintained in months. Nothing but mud/packed sand. The bunkers don't drain so even days after a rain, they are still full of water.
Fairway grass is thin.
I understand they are trying to grow up natural areas in the deep rough for the stuff right off the fairway is nothing but a mix of bermuda and weeds.
Greens are decent.
Tee boxes haven't been mowed is days.
Tee boxes full of weeds.
Areas around creeks, ponds, etc are not maintained.
Mushrooms growing all over the place.
The course could look a lot better with a few gallons of gas in the mowers, some hard manual labor, some sand and just some sort of direction in course maintenance.
Meadowbrooks Farms
First time playing here 2014 and am a bit disappointed that the condition appears to have deteriorated vs prior plays there in prior years. Lots of burnt grass areas, more weeds on greens and many damaged fairways. Yes, summer is hot but this summer has seen more rains but course condition now is not as good vs. Prior years. Please try to keep up.
Beware and be prepared to play a major dump!
Wow, what a disappointment! Plain and simple this course was an absolute dump, folks! I knew the second that I was pulling into the parking lot and surveying the visible portion of the course that I had gotten nabbed and ripped off big time! A tad bit above Bear Creek's quality with a slew of tattooed mullets who think they're headed to the PGA tour. Avoid this sucker at all costs!
Great course
Pace of play was excellent < 3hrs. Greens were close to being really good. Little more rain and I'll put this course up to any local public course around.
not very challenging
greens had been aerated and sanded but putts rolled true. course had virtually no water, some fairway traps, only defense was rough and sandtraps on some holes. all par 3's were fairly easy from senior tees as were most holes.
Nice course, challenging and great greens
Meadowbrook is a challenging cours that offers options for all handicaps. When the rough is up, you have to keep it in the fairway. Several holes offer risk and reward opportunities. Overall the course is in good shape but not pristine country club shape. It is well trapped, with decent tight fairway grass. A bit pricey in prime time but a good value with GolfNow or other specials.
