The Golf Club of Texas

On this particular day we had a frost delay - 07:50 tee time., actual tee off 09:00 (approximately). I had played here numerous times and it’s always getting better and better. Be ready for some of the fastest greens in the area. The grass is the same from tee to green which makes it look great throughout! They have upkepted the course to make it a little easier to find a strayed shot, but still thick enough to lose or make it unplayable from anywhere off the first cut off rough and further out. Still, the course is wide open to make it enjoyable for all handicap levels.

Great shape considering the rain the day before. Great greens.

We didn't play, re-scheduled (rain check) for Monday 31st , half the course was under water due to thunderstroms . schedule for Monday 31st.

Love this course.... One little problem... ...very fast greens.

The greens are lightning fast and firm. The zoysia was good and frustrating

Played a quick 18 solo this afternoon in about 3 hours. Only a few groups on the course, so I could take my time and do some short game practice on-course.

This course is always a great value for what you get. 7100 from the tips, but very playable— all par 4s are somewhat tight, but with a generous fairway cut you can swing away off the tee.

The zoysia grass is awesome, especially in the winter— the fairway and rough typically produce great lies, and the turf runs firm and fast. The greens are tricky for first time players... hard and fast (10–11) with slopes that make it difficult to lag from outside 30 feet. If you hit it close, the pins are placed in relatively flat areas so 10-footers are makeable.

All in all a great experience— the greens were slightly bumpy, but it didn’t affect the roll very much. Don’t let the brown grass in November deceive you, it’s a very playable course for winter!

The weather was perfect. Greens are a little fast. But... Myself and my group always have a good time. Look forward to the next round.

Very enjoyable course. Zoisia fairways were in great shape and make for a challenging second cut. Greens very hard and fast, but large to accommodate. Course is pretty and makes you feel like you are out in the country (because you are). Sand traps were unplayable but likely due to the amount of heavy rains San Antonio has experienced recently.

Great straightforward layout, facilities very nice, friendly staff. Fairways in great shape, greens very firm, but speed is perfect. Rough is way overgrown, even fairway first cut. Lost 2-3 balls just off the fairway. Bunkers still need work. Pace was a bit slow on front 9, backed up 3 groups on several holes. Never saw a marshal. Overall a very good layout, and lower green fees more in line with comparable courses. Definitely a course worth playing.

Course has the obvious appearance of neglect and poor maintenance. Have played it for years and it is currently in the worst shape since reopening in 2015. Traps were hard packed sand & rock, and had lots of weeds growing in them which indicates they have not been maintained for many weeks or months. The grass on the greens was sparse, yellowish, dead, with bare spots in many places, Looks like a severe of lack of water, aerification & maintenance. The rough is way too thick and high, forcing you to spend a lot of time looking for your ball, thus slowing down play considerably. Many places of knee high rough along and in fairways. Noticed lots of dried grass clippings & "hay' piled up in places indicating lack of timely mowing, Severe lack of drinking water available on the course. No beverage cart service and only one water jug out on the course, other than the one at #1 tee box. The jug out on the course ran out of water when I stopped there about 4:00 PM. They used to have ice chests filled with iced down water bottles....what happened to that? this is August in Texas! Overall, a very disappointing experience and I strongly felt like I certainly did not get value for my money. Pace of play was "excellent" but a two edged sword, because no one was out there! If they do not turn this thing around soon, they will loose it like before and become history.

Course is in excellent condition even with temperature well over 100 degrees the past few weeks. Green fast and fair and fairways green and cut short. Worth the time and drive to play Golf club of Texas soon.

Overall the course was in decent condition, with a couple of serious exceptions. The sand traps are in horrible shape. Partly is because of the recent rain, but that’s not the only issue. Several are overgrown with weeds and grass, and borders on most of them are really bad. On some of the traps the protective plastic is sticking out! The next thing is the maintenance of the rough. Seems they recently got mowed, but a ton of grass clippings all over the edges. Idk what is going on with their maintenance team, but there seem to be some serious maintenance issues. The worst part is that they have increased the price and gotten rid of some nice perks recently.
