Olympia Hills Golf Course
About
Olympia Hills Golf Course is very exciting and enhances San Antonio's reputation as a golf destination. A unique combination of natural topography and man-made mounds and bunkers make this a super course. Native South Texas vegetation and golf course grass seed formulations on fairways and greens will provide state-of-the-game playing surfaces. The views are spectacular, with several holes playing to greens well below the tees, while other lead to a significant rise to reach the putting surface. Fairways, which on some holes are tight, are often sloped and guarded by bunkers. The tips will not be played by the faint hearted, but with four sets of tee boxes, the course can be enjoyed by all levels of players.

Nice Course
A nice course with interesting layout. High elevations and hilly. There is a group of 8 in front of us, playing best ball, and I was surprised the course would allow that. Family friendly indeed. By the way, they shouldn’t allow three players to share one set of club and should “teach “ beginners to follow the rule of double par each hole as the highest score and know when to pick up the ball to avoid delay. Marshals are too nice to do his job.
Blown away..... not joking, I almost got blown away
Let me explain my title.... I played a day after a cool front came blowing through, so it was WINDY !!!! That wind just added to the challenge of this course.
What a course though !!! Beautiful views, lots of wildlife, great layout.
Ill start with the pro shop this time. The entry is nice, lots of signage, automatic doors, nice entry way with a big TV screen, gives the course an elegant feel right from the start without being stuffy. The pro shop itself is small, but clean. They left a lot of room for the grill and bar area so that cut into space that could have made the pro shop larger. More on the bar and grill later...
Easy check in, friendly guy ran the counter and was fast and efficient. I bought a bucket of range balls and went out to get my cart. They are nicely lined right at the front entry way and you pick what you want, I like that. Drove through the large parking area to my truck and loaded up.
Thankfully they have lots of signs because it feels like its a mile to the driving range and first hole, and the way the cart path turns and curves you would absolutely get lost.
But I made it !!! The range alone won me over, beautiful. Not to wide or deep but probably the prettiest driving range Ive ever seen, has nice landscaping, design, and backdrop. well placed pins, flags, etc. There is a nice chipping area right behind you also, closer to hole 1 tee box.
To the course.
Ill make this short and simple, Great condition overall !!! Fairways are excellent, smooth and pretty. Greens are deceptive, they look fast but play pretty average. Breaks read fairly well, and they are smooth and well maintained. The elevation changes on this course are awesome, but make it more challenging. Especially in crazy winds !!!
what I found toughest about this course is the multiple 200+ yard par 3 holes. That's rough for us average golfers. and the ones that are shorter, are tough on elevation.
The negative... Pace of play and water. ( they cant really help the water)
This sounds bad but let me explain. We played our round in 4 hours and 15 minutes, not bad right. Well... it felt like 6 hours.
I started as a single but was paired up with another golfer before teeing off on 1, We later joined the 2 guys behind us all day due to being blocked up. We had a group of 5 in front of us all day !!! The "Blue jean crew" as I dubbed them, played so slow !!! even as a pair we never got offered the chance to play through. I would have liked to have seen a marshal move them along. The course had many places that held excess water from previous storms, not their fault really but it affected pace and we lost a few golf balls that normally would have been fairway or greenside.
The bar and grill... You must try this out. I don't normally eat during a round but I was especially hungry this day. The young girl behind the bar was quick and super friendly, The prices are very fair and not as high as other courses I've seen. I got the $5 hotdog basket, that comes with your choice of chips, and a fountain drink. Jumbo hotdog, with excellent flavor. Lots of beer, wine and liquor choices if you choose to indulge.
I cant wait to go back again !!! Maybe Ill be there tomorrow !!!!
Average
Fairways were not great, bunkers were unplayable. Just throw it out. Layout was good. value was average based on course conditions. Had a fun time despite course condition.
Friendly staff
This was our first time playing at this course. We missed our tee time by just a few minutes; we didn’t know to check in with the “starter.” We were told we would have to wait for the other groups to go ahead of us. However, the Marshall, Chris asked us to follow him to find our group- we only missed the first whole. The starter, I wish I caught his name, and Chris were so kind to us; it turned out to be a great day and my son had a really good day on the greens. We also lucked out with the players we joined. Very kind to my son.
Friendly staff in the clubhouse too. Everyone went above and beyond. We will definitely be retuning to OH in the future.
Awesome Course
The course is In Excellent shape. The price is very affordable for such a nice course.
Great Friendly Staff
Such a nice course, well the front 9 is great the back 9 average to okay. Seems like 2 different courses. Play was faster than normal, course was great condition and well maintained. Staff in the pro shop was fantastic, thank you to the female employee who checked us in on 10.7.21 at noon, we were late and she really took great care of us.. Fun times at Olympia Hills!
Hidden Gem in North San Antonio
Great value for price. A challenging yet fair course. Fees miles away form thr city on some holes but the elevations changes give great views
Course rating
This was the second time I have played Olympia Hills. This trip i was disappointed in the course condition. Bunkers with sitting water, completely unraked or with tractor tire tracks through them. The maintenance crew was in the way on two holes on the front nine driving vehicles through the fairway and greenside bunkers. The greens had a lot of dead spots. The distance markers were difficult to locate and there was only one distance per hole. It could be a fun golf course if it was a little more player friendly. I also noted that the cost for a pay and play course in this area is cheaper for better conditioned courses.
The course was in good condition unfortunately the night before was a continuous rain thus most of the bunkers and some fairways were still flooded.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I will invite some friends and come back to play this course.
Maintenance Crew obnoxious
This was my second time playing this course love the elevation changes and difficulty of par 3’s. Would of gave 5 star for this course but unfortunately for the first 5 holes we had a maintenance man on a lawn mower chasing us and would not turn off his mower when we teed off, also some how he maintained our pace of play for every hit we took with his mower running no more than 20 feet from us. Once we lost lawn mower man we approached hole 6 where low and behold two Maintenance men were aerating the tee box and would not turn off their machines and continued to work directly in front of us while we drove off the tee box (could of easily knocked this guy out with a drive but had no care to who was hitting directly behind him even after we told him we were hitting). I understand the course needs to be maintained but if you expect golfers to upkeep proper golf Etiquette such as fill in divots not leave trash on course the maintenance staff should be on same page for the golfers paying to play here. The front nine would of been enjoyable if it wasn’t for this experience.
Good play
overall like the course.
don't feel the pricing and overall charges were upfront on the GolfNow website
Staff Starter was friendly and offered advice on how to approach parts of the course, very helpful
