Canyon Springs Golf Club
About
Canyon Springs Golf Club is a true Hill Country course. You need to stay on the fairways or bring plenty of balls. Using an old farm to build on this choice piece of Texas real estate, this land has been artfully transformed into what many golfers will refer to as among the very best of what Texas has to offer. With five sets of tee boxes on each hole, demanding greens, natural Hill Country surroundings and magnificent limestone waterfalls on two holes, this 7,000-plus-yard course presents a significant challenge to event the most experienced golfers (and even those who think they are).

Slow play was horrible
This course is a good one if you can get through the round fast enough. I didn't expect to be able to get in 18 holes obviously teeing off at 5:50 pm. Cmon, I got about 2.5 hrs of daylight. It shouldn't take the entire 2.5 hrs to barely get through 9. I went back and played #1 by myself in the dusk. Course conditions were great and ending up joining a guy behind me then we joined the twosome in front of us. A marshall came by and said there was a slow group ahead of us, but he didn't do anything about it. I've teed off here around 5:00 before in the summer, and I've never made it through about 11 holes. Same problems as other courses with groups playing from the tips with no business. Some playing from the tips as they should. Once we teed off around 3:00 and played pretty much on pace until #15 then it just stopped. Barely made it out before dark. What do you do? Try to play more in the morning I guess.
grat course
The course was great and staff also my only regreat was the pace of play was too slow. Overal it is one of the best i have played in San Antonio
Top 5 Hill Country Courses
This place is a real treat for people looking for something in between a muni and TPC course. Best greens I’ve played all year in Texas…by far.
Amazing experience
From the walk to the clubhouse til hole 18, Canyon Springs is a blast. Great course layout and immaculate conditions. Cant recommend it enough!!
This was by far the worst hospitality I’ve ever had and i have been all across the country playing various courses. I walked in with my girlfriend already paid and the staff asks for my card and proceeds to charge me $32 for my girlfriend sitting with me and not playing. I was absolutely flabbergasted. I have always played course including various types of elite courses even the quarry and never once was I told to pay for my girlfriend sitting there not playing. And sure maybe that’s your policy which is ridiculous but as my first time playing being there be a gentlemen to the game and maybe excuse the $32 fee for my girlfriend literally sitting there just watching me. And also don’t forget the driver range isn’t even open until 1pm which makes no sense and there isn’t even a chipping green only putting green. Sure the conditions of the course are nice but I would way rather play la cintera or however you spell it or the quarry due to the poor hospitality. Never will I be going back to that course ever again.
Perfect day even though it Rained
This was my first time playing the course and it was raining nonstop the day that I played. I will start with this it was the best 9 holes that I have played in my life, shot a 34 on the front and was called in due to the diminished course conditions.
The staff was friendly and attentive to my needs with the rain. I was the only golfer out that day and I believe they were surprised that I was there.
This is a true Texas course, with Longhorn cattle on your drive to the first tee. There is a central hub at the range/turn with seating, drinks, food, etc... It was closed but looked nice and something to take advantage of if the weather is better.
The course condition was amazing, flat tee boxes, perfect fairways and well-preserved greens. The layout does make you consider club selection from tee to approach and rewards a smarter decision. You are challanged to think about the next shot before hitting your current lie.
I will play here again for sure and hope to see the back nine next time.
My only complaint was that booking through GolfNow, I'm supposed to be refunded my money through GN, and the course needs to notify them, which they said was done. I had to call a few days later to GN and find that the course didn't call or there was no record of it, GN had to call the course and verify that I was in fact rained out. Time that I shouldn't have had to spend following up.
Great course
Course is Well maintained. Nice carts. Greens are good. Traps are well maintained. We Should’ve just played here both days.
Fun and challenging
Fun layout with well maintained conditions. Lots of scenic views and you will see lots of wildlife on and around the course. Waterfalls next to the 18 green are pretty awesome. Challenging course with lots of tight fairways and large fast greens.
Great time on the very nice course
Played 18 holes here later on a Friday afternoon. Paid up with 3 other singles with 2 having great knowledge of the course. I had a great time, started off hot but going trouble after I slipped on the cart path during a brief sprinkle. Placed better on the back 9 but the foursome on front of us was slow, hitting multiple shots in every tee box. No wonder we finished #18 in the near dark. We saw the starter several times but I don't think they ever said anything to the group ahead of us.
The layout is beautiful. Challenging but fun. The facilities were clean and had a fun atmosphere about it. My cart was tired. Slow for most of the round. But, beyond a few hiccups, it was well work my time, effort and money. Thankful whenever I get to post a birdie or two in another state.
Good pairing
I decided to golf when I saw there was an opening for a single. We’ll be there later in April for a tournament and wanted to check the course out.
I was paired with three young men from Wisconsin on spring break. As a homegrown San Antonian I welcomed them to town.
They had their own competition, a game called Wolf and I played my game.
They were mindful of the pace and we finished the round in about 4 1/2 hours
The staff was great and the smell of bbq greeted us at the start and the turn.
Highly recommend
Great tume
We really enjoyed our day. The course was in excellent condition and the amenities were top notch.. the layout was exceptional as were the fairways, greens, and tee areas. The pace of play was perfect. Never waited and never pushed. It was so nice playing on fairways where the ball sits up on the grass. Would definitely recommend playing Canyon Springs to all levels of player S there are multiple tees for all skill levels.
Good course with friendly staff
Excellent green although speed is not consistent. Fairways in good shape and layout is excellent.
Awesome
Fantastic golf courses everything you expect from a top notch experience. Would highly recommend it to anybody wanting great time.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear your first visit did not meet your expectations.
The rider fee you were charged is a standard fee in the golf industry and is in place at many courses for non-playing riders accompanying golfers during their round. While we understand it may have caught you off guard, it is part of our regular policy and applies to all guests equally.
We’d also like to clarify that our driving range is open 7 days a week. The only exception is Tuesday mornings, when the range remains closed until 1 PM to allow for scheduled maintenance and upkeep so we can continue providing the best possible practice conditions for our guests.
We appreciate your comments regarding hospitality and amenities, and we’ll certainly share your feedback with our team. We’re glad you enjoyed the course conditions and wish you the best wherever you choose to play.
