Olympia Hills Golf Course
About
Olympia Hills Golf Course is very exciting and enhances San Antonio's reputation as a golf destination. A unique combination of natural topography and man-made mounds and bunkers make this a super course. Native South Texas vegetation and golf course grass seed formulations on fairways and greens will provide state-of-the-game playing surfaces. The views are spectacular, with several holes playing to greens well below the tees, while other lead to a significant rise to reach the putting surface. Fairways, which on some holes are tight, are often sloped and guarded by bunkers. The tips will not be played by the faint hearted, but with four sets of tee boxes, the course can be enjoyed by all levels of players.

Course not up to par
Played this course a few years ago and it was nice. Even though it’s winter, the course is not in good shape as compared to other courses in the area. Fairways were very hard and very dead. The greens were fair but had spotty areas and needed to be shorter and smoother. Not a good experience at all considering the price being charged.
Good course to play
I've played here recently several times and like the course. For a beginning golfer the course is fun and challenging. For others more experienced, it might not seem so challenging.
Winter Golf
I know playing winter golf can have its challenges keeping up the course, grass doesn't grow and cart traffic causes damage to the course. I haven't played there in 15 years and really had enjoyed the course before but that was not the case this time. The first red flag was when the starter said the had replaced the greens with another kind of grass back in September 2024. After the 3rd hole we decided to just make it a 2 putt max and move on. They were super bumpy and wouldn't hold a line. It will be a while before I play it again.
Probably not worth it
For anyone that hasn't played this course, the front 9 is difficult but the back is wide open.
Even though they've recently be renovated, the greens are rough, fairways are dry and hard, and the pace is slow. Prepare for a 5-hour round.
Double check your credit card statement as well. I booked through golf now for $78.52 + the convenience fee but was charged an extra $10 in the clubhouse. Booking through Olympia Hills shows the same price and that the green and cart fee are included. FWIW,
the other 3 members of my group encountered the same issue.
Weather was decent for February, so I'll take being outside as a win.
Nice place for Golf
The course is in good condition following The renovations. There are still some spots that are thin, but it is winter time. One of the friendliest staffs you will meet. Highly recommend playing this challenging 18 holes.
Long Wait Times
Our foursome left after 7 holes. 1 pm tee time. Started backing up after 4 holes. We waited 20 minutes to tee off on 8 and finally gave up. Since the parking lot was nearby, we just left in frustration. Never saw a Marshall.
Pick up the pace, people!
Excellent, challenging course. The new greens are an improvement, albeit still a little rough around the edges. And they are brutal, lots of slope to deal with which is challenging for me as a new golfer. Love playing this course, but the marshals are too nice and could do a better job of getting slower players to pick up the pace. It's a muni, I get it, but c'mon people... when you see a group waiting at the tee box, stop looking for your lost ball, drop and hit, and pick up those short putts. If you are slow and know it, lwave faster groups through... it makes things better for everyone! :)
Good round
Course was pretty good for the winter season..greens were a little interesting , but okay!
Greens are bumpy
Over the summer, it became well known in the SA golfing community that Olympia Hills was going to redo their greens due to a problem that killed the grass.
This was my first time there since they redid those greens. What i will say is that certain aspects of the course remain constant. The tee boxes have some spots where you need a hammer to get your tee into place, the fairways are in good shape and some holes have hills to help keep your ball in the short grass (like #2) and the bunkers are hit and miss. Some have something resembling a dirt/rock mixture and others have sand. (I am not ruining my clubs in those dirt/rock bunkers).
But the greens...brother...the greens rolled inconsistently. Slow on some, slower on others, moderately quick on still others. I watched one of my playing partner's balls roll and hop and roll and hop about five times on a routine 8 foot putt.
Fortunately this is one of my favorite tracks to play so I will be back but guys...three things...
1) Water or treat your tee boxes
2) Train your deer and wildlife to clean up the bunkers after they go through there
3) Put some more sand down on those greens and level them a little. Just please take the bumps out of it.
UC needs to invest in this potentially great course
I love playing this course because it is close to home and is challenging for me as a beginner golfer. Long driving range, chipping green and putting greens available. Three ball bucket sizes available, range balls are yellow. The layout is nice, lots of different shaped holes to keep it interesting. As a high handicap, many of the greens are just brutally sloped, as well as heavily protected by bunkers. Many of the bunkers are in bad shape and need new sand. Part of the problem is that they use tractors to rake the sand at night, but they end up compacting it all. Some of the bunkers are almost solid, no way for me to learn how to get out in those conditions. Be sure to stay on the fairways because off of them the ground is very rough, dry, rocky, etc. Recent droughts have really taken their toll on the outer areas. Staff is friendly, marshals are nice, probably too nice actually because slow play seems to be the biggest issue when the weather is nicel Marshals could be more strict about getting slower groups to play faster, encouraging them to pick up shots, not take extra swings, etc. I think pricing a round at $78 is steep given the conditions, twilight rates are much better. If only Universal City would provide some more funding to improve course conditions. Bunker sand is expensive, but severely needed. (I suppose I could get better to avoid them in the first place.)
