Course Highlights
The course layout earns high praise for its challenging holes, elevation changes, and well-maintained fairways and greens. Attentive staff, a drive-thru bar at the turn, and strong value make each round memorable.

Slope 139
Rating 74.2

Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Very fun and challenging course, but slow

I came to play being from out of town, and this was one of the few courses that had a tee time in the range I was looking for. That being said, the course was still pretty packed and that was the only negative for the day. Considering the time of year the course was in excellent condition, which was good because it is a fairly challenging course (for me anyways). Being from Houston I was not accustomed to the elevation changes and uneven lies that you can find yourself in if you do not hit a good tee or approach shot. A well placed tee shot will set you up nicely on most holes. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming, I had an issue come up during my round which required me to leave, and they allowed me to return later and finish my round. They were very understanding and helped me out big time, hats off to them. Didn't get a chance to check out the rest of the club but the pro shop and entry building all looked top notch, I felt like I was at a private country club. Great course and great people, can't wait to come back again soon!

Really nice course - you will enjoy playing a round here

Always enjoy this course. It is challenging layout that is in good condition. Greens are well maintained and roll true - even on winter months. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Only drawback is that pace of play can sometimes slow down

Not worth the money

The pictures of the course are very misleading, course looks well kept from pro shop, once you get to hole 4, the course is not well kept at all. Over priced by a mile for the conditions. Good layout and nice challenging terrain. Staff was snappy and rude for no reason. Won’t be returning

Stay Away!

I had played here years ago in high school for a tournament. The course was in much better shape back then. Now, the driving range is uneven, with almost no grass in the hitting bays. You’re warming up hitting out of divots full of sand. $12 for a medium sized bucket is ridiculous! Onto the course. The fairways are beyond dead, you can’t hit a decent shot from the center of the fairway, id consider that a big problem. The Greens are covered in sand and spray painted green, don’t be fooled. They are hard as cement and are beyond dead. We tee’d off at 12:30, which was late and turned into 12:40. And the round itself took 5 hours, maybe more. Extremely slow play. $70 for the round, absolutely no way. Stay away. The owner of the course “doesn’t believe in liquor on the course, meaning nothing more than beer, no mixed drinks, or shots. Nothing. Terrible value.

Course needs some care

Played the course a number of times. Fairways are really dried out and thin in many spots. Greens were better but also dried out in some places.

Still a nice course overall, just needs more TLC.

4 1/2 hours thru 13 holes

Pace of play was awful. Two holes behind us a guy hit his first hole in one ever… only to leave 3 holes later because it was taking 45 mins a hole. Find somewhere else. Not worth it! Left after the 13th hole

What was your tee time? I just spoke with groups that played around 10, 11 and 1 and all three groups said that there were no pace of play issues that day. We did have a 30 minute frost delay in the morning but other than that there were no issues that were brought to our attention.

Fun course. Nice layout

First time playing. Found the course to be in good condition. The greens had just been top dressed which made putting challenging. Enjoyed the layout of the course and pace of play was our own pace. Overall very nice and enjoyable day.
