ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Golfer Reviews
Pace of play
Be prepared to play slow. If there is a Marshall he is not managing the pace of play. We sat on tee boxes with the group in front of us waiting 10 minutes together. While we got to meet the people in front of us it was too slow. Management told me I played on remarkable time. I guess the people in front of us did too. We left after nine holes because we were estimating the back nine would take about 3 hours or more. By the time we got to hole ten three groups were waiting to tee off.
Not for $75
Good layout, especially on back 9 but $75 is a bit steep. Would expect range balls included and gps in carts if I’m going to pay that much!
Course is a bit beat, would expect a lot more for the price. Group in front of us smoking weed whole time marshall nowhere to be found. No yardage markers onccourse
Shadow
Course ranks about middle of the pack compared with others I have played in Texas. tons of potential, just needs some love and TLC.
Dry Nice
This was our first time playing here. The course is filled with hazards, very challenging, and fun. For this time of year it is in great shape! We had a great time and we will definitely be back.
Nice course, with a little work, could be awesome!
This course is challenging with nice tee boxes and rolling fairways. The greens are a bit inconsistent as they have small patches of live growing grass in the mostly dormant greens. This makes for an inconsistent roll and unpredictable read to the cup. Some greens are faster with mostly dormant grass and less live sprouts.
The layout is challenging with some blind shots and tight fairways.
Winter play
This course was ok compared with other times I have played in Texas. Fairways were a bit rough but it was ok.
I'm very curious on why you thought the fairways were rough. We are the only public course in the Austin area to overseed our fairways with winter grass. They are in great shape especially compared to the dormant thin fairways everywhere else.
Great shape!
Course in fantastic shape, greens true, quick and challenging. Fairways are super, definitely recommend!!
Challenging but fair layout
Played in January and was pleased with the fairways over seeded with winter rye. Hole layout was well thought out and challenging due to the rolling terrain. Multiple tees to accommodate all skill levels. Two thumb up.
We are actively treating the greens for poa and hope to have it under control soon. Thanks for your review and we hope to have you back soon.
