Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

worth the fee
Played the course on Monday and what a course
From arriving was greeted by the cheery professional in the pro shop who set us on our way. Althoogh very challenging at times we had a fabulous time, the course was immaculate. Quite hilly at times, but that's where th buggie comes in handy. Sent pics to my da and he canny believe the views.
A good pub, friendly, efficient staff, good pub grub., reasonably priced. Even a telly on the courtyard
Great Outing
Had a nice round at Shadow Glen. Very good conditions overall on a windy day. Course in nice shape and after we played around a group, we finished 18 in just over 3:15.
Horrible conditions
Course was recently overseeded but they failed to mow their course before the heavy rains came through. The fairways were 2-3 inches long and there was standing puddles 3-4 days after it rained. Some of the greens were even partially mowed. I walked with another 2-some that played so slow it took us 2 1/2 hours without waiting to play the front 9. I ended up leaving at the turn.
Sorry that you did not enjoy your round and had such a poor experience. Unfortunately the rye grass has to grow to a certain height before it can be cut, and we understand that this doesn't create ideal conditions in the short run. However it's a small price to pay to have the best fairways in town all winter long. Come back in a month and you will be glad you did
The fairway was mowed but had grass clumps were everywhere. Also many tee box were not mowed. This course is challenging enough with natural hazards. Do not need added troubles.
I thought the lawnmowers were broken
The fairways and green were shaggy, Nearly lost a ball in the middle of the fairway. Recent over seeding was the explanation. I enjoyed the layout though. Hopefully will give the course another crack.
Good challenge and great pace
I’ve played here twice now - they have overseeded meaning the tee boxes are hairy and the greens are very slow, probably like everywhere at the minute.
They actually have marshals on the course and the players here play pretty quick, at least in the early morning.
I had a cart waiting for me as soon as I got out of my car - classy touch.
Hoping the greens pick up some speed soon!
Course not in great condition
For the price paid, would have expected the course to be in better condition. It had been overseeded everywhere so tall grass from tee boxes to greens. It was was so overwatered there were puddles and mud everywhere and it was cart path only. Would have been nice to know about this before booking because conditions were so poor we ended up just playing 9 holes.
Sorry we did not meet your expectations. We have to let the rye grass grow to a certain height before the first cut. The day you played was also the last day that the temp got above 80 so we watered more than normal the night before. We understand this can affect conditions in the short term so we can bring above average conditions all winter long.
Nice pre-flight diversion
Course was a little wet and the fairways a little "fuzzy" but very enjoya ble to play. Pace of play could have been better but there were several marshalls on the course to help move players along. Would recommend.

We are glad you enjoyed the course. The reason things were moving a bit slow is because it was cart path only, and the reason it was cart path only is because we recently overseeded the fairways and teeboxes in preparation for winter. While we let the ryegrass grow in, we aren't able to cut the fairways as short as we like and we also have to water the crap out of them which is why it was a bit wet out there. A bit of a nuisance in the short run but well worth it.
Come back in 6 weeks and it will feel like a completely different golf course
Solid
Having played all the muni, premium public and a large number of the private courses around the Austin area, Shadowglen initially held a love hate relationship with me. It's tough and when the wind is blowing in Manor it's even harder. I have played this course extensively over the last 2 years and can quite happily say I think it's one of the best values for money in Austin for a round of golf. 15 minutes from downtown and they are always trying to improve the experience there. Great selection of draft beers

Course is challenging and in decent condition.
Pace of play was slower than expected for an early morning start.
