ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Painstakingly slow
Tee off was at 1:06 made the turn at 3:45 then it got worse so at 4:40 when I got to the 13th hole and there was 2 groups waiting I quite
Great bang for your buck
Well maintained and good beer deals. Everyone was nice and respectful as well. Lots of long par 4s and a couple of tricky holes. Only complaint is lack of ball cleaners.
Good layout poor conditions
Good overall layout but conditions were something I would expect in January in a northern golf course. Spotty grass around a lot of the fringes, tee boxes grass was like two inches high. Greens had moderate grass quality, and were bumpy. Overall a do not play again rating.
Has the potential to be great, but there are better options for the price.
Similar to the rest of the reviews, this course is a bit overpriced for what you are getting. It really has the potential to be a great course, but can understand how hard it is to maintain in Texas heat/water limitation, staffing, etc.
Pros:
- Driving Range
- small chipping area
- putting green
- “Drive thru” half-way “house” on 9th hole; can order food ahead
- Staff was super friendly (not sure why reviews say they weren’t, maybe I caught them on a good day)
- Layout is great, good challenging, course.
- Firm, medium fast greens
- Square tee boxes
- Carts are decently fast
Cons:
- Most fairways and greens need trimming down
- Some bunkers need a little touch up
- Random weeds
- Pace of play was too bad, some players just play from incorrect tee boxes/don’t repair course as they play
Overall:
- worth playing at least 1x, just needs a little bit of TLC
Overpriced and lie in your face staff.
Man I'm still mind blown that this place managed to get 4 stars. They barely deserve 3 stars in my honest opinion. They over book and over priced with half has greens most of the time.. For instance take any day and I'll put up forest creek. Hers exactly why, 15 to 20 buck cheaper and fc gives you a small bucket of range balls & a voucher for a fountain drink/beer and hot dog / sausage wrap. That's who should be charging more but they don't and they still kill it compared to shdowglen over here. Man do better!
Love this course…but
Needed marshaling to manage slow play as we followed a shotgun tournament. Third or fourth group after but took management to move people to pick up and skip holes or leave. Took 3-1/2 hours for front nine, better for back, but done in about 5-1/2 hours. Will be back as it’s pretty much my home course. Beverage and bar staff are great as are the gents in the Pro Shop.
Garmin Golf Watch mess up the holes.
The course is fun to play and the condition of the course is pretty good. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the map in my s62 watch has the wrong hole info.
We flipped the 9’s three years ago. You just need to update your watch for the new routing.
Great way to spend Easter
Shadowglen staff was amazing as usual! Course is in really good shape. Will continue to recommend and play.
5+ hour round on a thursday morning
Decided to give this course a try while we were in town. Was not expecting a 5 hour round on a Thursday morning.
Overpriced
Overpriced course. Layout is wacky. Won’t be back.
too windy!
Would have given this more stars but it was too windy. Two employees said it's frequently windy. You should inform players if you have a windy course!
I hear it's less windy in Canada, eh!
Forest Creek is actually more expensive and has sod on every green right now. I would be giving hot dogs away too if that was the case at Shadow!
