Rating 74.2

Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

too windy!

Would have given this more stars but it was too windy. Two employees said it's frequently windy. You should inform players if you have a windy course!

Great Conditions

Played here several times. I’ve played 5 courses around the area this past week and half (mostly muneys) and right now Shadowglen is in the best shape! Greens excellent compared to most right now.

owner kicked me and my brother off for no reason

It was a good round until the owner rode up to us in his own personal cart which I'm sure does 10000% more damage to the course than a regular golf cart and then starts yelling at us for driving where we apparently shouldn't be. There was NO SIGNS SAYING WE COULDN'T DRIVE THE CART WHERE WE WERE. Some holes have little signs that say "carts" and have an arrow. We followed those. But not all holes have that. So if you don't want a cart in a specific spot just put up a sign. Or be polite. There's no reason to yell and flip out. My brother and I got kicked off without warning.

You parked your cart in the middle of 14 green. If you need a sign to tell you not to do that, then you should probably not play golf.

Course in good shape, pace was bad

Overall course in good shape but they need to work on managing pace better. I know all courses are busy these days but courses like Star Ranch know how to keep the pace flowing and stay at or under 4 hour round. The round was close to 5 hours and it sucked having to do a lot of waiting around.

Management made fun of friend with disability

Horribly ran. I was playing with my cousin who has a disability. Wont go into detail, but “Ernie” decided to start making fun of my friend for stuttering. Horrible

Won't go into detail because you have no details. Ernie has a speech impediment and stutters from time to time. He was doing his job monitoring the pace of play so that everyone behind you could enjoy their experience. Thanks for jumping to conclusions. We do more for golfers with disabilities than anyone else. We are the headquarters for Central Texas Special Olympics golf. We allow them to practice and play for free and do not charge them for their annual tournament.

A monumental disgrace to golf: why i will never return to “Shadowglen”

My experience at Shadowglen was beyond appalling; it was an infuriating waste of time and money. To say I spent $60 on this travesty is a fact I'll lament for quite some time. This place is a disgrace to the very essence of golf, masquerading as a "golf course" while failing at the most basic elements that define one.

The management's handling of tee times is laughably atrocious. Their rigid, back-to-back scheduling is a recipe for chaos, showing a complete disregard for the players' experience. The penalty for not adhering to their absurdly strict arrival window is just the cherry on top of their incompetence. It's as if the concept of customer service is an alien notion to them.

Venturing onto the so-called "greens" is where the horror truly unfolds. Describing them as mud and sand is being generous. It's as if someone vandalized the idea of a green, leaving behind a desolate wasteland where hopes of a decent putt go to die. It's not golf; it's an exercise in futility and frustration.

The fairways—or should I say "fair-wrongs"—are a joke. Littered with rocks and debris, they're more akin to a minefield than a golf course. It's clear no effort is made in maintaining what could generously be described as the playing surface. The danger to your clubs is only matched by the insult to your intelligence as a golfer.

Paying $60 to subject myself to this nightmare was a mistake I'll not soon forget. Every aspect of Shadowglen screams neglect, incompetence, and a blatant disregard for the sport of golf. It's a maddening, soul-sucking experience that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

In closing, shadowglen is not just a disappointment; it's a catastrophic failure as a golfing venue. My advice to anyone considering playing here is simple: don't. Save your money, your time, and your sanity. I, for one, am relieved to say I will never set foot on this abomination of a course again. Golfers deserve better; this place deserves to be forgotten.

You showed up late to your tee time and held up the groups behind you. When you finally made it to the course you continued to hold up the groups behind you. I would take you seriously if your review was remotely true. I can take pictures of every green and fairway and show how wrong you are. Don't confuse your disrespect for the course and everyone around you for ours.

Great value for money

I really enjoyed this course. Best tee box conditions I have seen in this area. I am new to the area from NC and have played several courses and this is by far the best I've seen in the past month. Not sure why courses in this area don't winterize their greens this time year. Played with a couple of great local guys who were amazingly helpful in figuring out course layout, which can be tough. Staff was very friendly and professional. Overall great experience.

This course is quirky anyway, but the recent water onslaught has rendered the fairways dormant and simply hard dry. Greens were decent. Need’s a little time to grow out of the recent flood plain effects.

Incredibly Slow

After watching the group in front hit nearly every shot and a 2:45 minute front 9 we left after 9 holes. The conditions weren’t great but after recent rain and time of year I understand. But no way any course should play that slowly and I didn’t see any gaps in front.

Terrible

After completing only four holes in one hour and 15 minutes, we drove off the course and went and played Lost Pines which was only a bit more expensive but was a great course. In addition to the poor pace of play, the course layout was mediocre, course conditions were not good, and it was extremely pricey. If you are from out of town, this is NOT a destination course.
