Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.

The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.

The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.

There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.

Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Much improved from 2021.

I've been playing The Old Brickyard for a few years now. It's the most unique course in DFW, nothing else has this much elevation and it's well worth your time. The course was rough in 2021 from the freeze, but is now absolutely gorgeous.

Very nice course, but

I enjoy playing the OBY. It’s not a long course, but it is challenging. The one glaring need is Marshalls to monitor the pace of play. One group had 8 golfers in it. The pace of play was bad I drove 24 miles and will again. Hopefully they will listen to what is being said about the pace of play.

GREATLY Improved

had a really great day...course is very much improved from last years horriffic condition...very challenging fast greens. Very few small spots that are under repairing the fairways not on greens. Greens and fairways are at 95% great condition for a municipal course...Will definitely play again several times this season!!!

Only remember seeing one small spot about 3 feet diameter on green under repair and pin wasn't put there of course...

REALLY HAPPY with the turnaround...Great job guys!!

Great course, greater employees

The course was great, fairways were perfect, aside from the ones being repaired. Desk guy was super nice and helpful.

Good course for the price!

Good course for the price! And was available on fairly short notice on GolfNow when others did not have tee times available. Golf Clubhouse staff helpful and grill staff were great!

Rapid Decline

Over the last 2 years we play here every couple months, and it’s steadily gotten worse and worse.

Great fun course but can’t justify paying $50 anymore for the state the course is in. Some greens are great but most are in shambles, same with the tee boxes and fairways, for every good one you have 2 bad ones.

Old Brickyard

Just found this through Golf Now as I was passing through. Had plenty of available tee times, so no problem getting on. Links style course so have to be prepared for it. Practice putting green wasn't in great shape, but that does not reflect the greens on the course.

This was a fun course to play. Course does have some tricky holes. Course knowledge is very helpful. I would come back to try it again.
