Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
quirky couse, but fun
my son and i played a practice round for his upcoming HS tournament. their are lots of blind shots and surprises on the course. i suspect that the better your know the course, the more fun it would be. definately want to go back
fantastic layout!!
It was a little far from my house, but the scenery was so good. Couple of par 3 halls are really challenging. The staff was really nice too.If they put little more effort for their lunch choice it would be much feel better.I dont like cold sandwish. Also care for femal e customer;there was no toilet paper at all in womens restroom.Othere than that it was fantastic!!!Definately i will be back!!
Good round
Had a good first round of the year at a nice golf course
Fun Challenging and Different
This is a wonderfully fun course and has always been easy to get around quickly. Love the elevation changes. Is a very challenging course for someone of my skill set, but I still love to play here. Will be back...
Unique layout led to some of the more interesting holes in the DFW area. For the price, one of the best values in all of Dallas. bunkers need work but the greens and fairways were in great winter condition. Truly a gem and worth the drive if you live in the Dallas area.
Blew me away
This course is tough enough with the water features and elevation changes. This round featured 20--30 mph winds with gusts to 40. I lost a 8 balls even with some I thought I hit into the fairway...the most I have lost in a day of golf, even 3 days for that matter, in 30 years of playing. It is winter time and the green speeds were uneven, fairways easy enough to hit from. I knew I was going to war trying to play this round. Even with the frustrations I enjoyed the round. Quite the learning experience.
Winter golf at Brickyard
Course was in pretty good shape for winter. Plenty of grass on fairways, greens rolled good, course does need some work though. Some of the cart paths do need work. Overall for the price it was good.
Good for the money!
Greens are great for time of year. If you're looking to beat the crowds, this is the place. First-timers beware layout is challenging.
Good job
I really enjoyed playing at this course. I'm glad the staff makes me feel welcome. they always try to figure out ways to save me money . Golf is it expensive sport and I think if the staff continues to help me save money I will keep coming back
Not a fun course
Too many blind shots, forced carry, uneven fairways. Whole course layout felt lacking natural flow, and hard to get in a flow. Players punished for reasonably good tee shots.
Beautiful scenery and challenging!!!
Great views with challenging layout!
Course is well kept
The Old Brickyard is a bit of a drive for me (east dallas). With that said, as any golfer I expect my moneys worth. I visit several times a year with my friends and have a great time. No regrets!
a nice challenge
There are some tough holes here but also some that reward good play. a very fair course all round
challenging
The weather was hot, 102,. The course was in good condition.for this time of year with the heat, The greens were in great shape considering the heat .
Windy
I decided to give this course a try as opposed to driving up into the DFW area to play. I teed off a little before 1PM and didn't see anybody on front nine so pace of play was rapid. The course was in very good shape. There were a couple of soggy spots near sprinkler heads but that wasn't a significant issue. There are a number of blind shots. I am not normally a fan of those but with more local knowledge they aren't really a problem. The greens were probably the best I have played in some time. They were receptive and rolled smoothly. The wind was strong the day I played and that definitely impacts play on some holes. One issue. I played the gold tees with a rating 70.6 and slope of 125. When I attempted to post the score on GHIN , it showed a similar rating but a slope of 113. When I contacted TXGA they said the course was overdue for a new rating as it was last rated in 2000. Might be time to get that done. I will play it again.
Fun couse
After a heavy rain in the morning we were pleasantly surprised at how well the course drained.
We have played this course several times over the last few years and I have never seen it in better shape.
Great place to play golf!
Wow! I had a great experience playing The Old Brickyard. The course would be enjoyable for players of all levels in my opinion. The course is in great condition, with some of the best greens I've ever played on. If you enjoy playing in less than 4 hours then this course is definitely a good choice. The green fee was at a very good price for such a nice quality course, and the staff was very friendly. I really am looking forward to getting back and playing out there again, as it remains my favorite course to play in the DFW area. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to have an enjoyable day of golf!
