Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
Needs some love
Very unique course built on a landfill. The property has potential but the lack of money , water , and attention has much of this course in poor shape. Carts are in bad shape probably because they are used to traverse a mine field of poor cart paths. Many of which no longer exist and and are painted on to direct traffic. The clubhouse is in good shape and offers a view to the west. I live on the south side of Dallas and long for better golf courses. Someone please fix this.
Don't go on a Tuesday
There was a senior scramble going on all day it seemed like. Pace of play was extremely slow. The course itself is interesting. Some elevated tee boxes and blind shots and water carries make it fun. Greens are smooth and fast. Bunkers are horrible. They might as well be taken out if you have grass growing in them.
practice round only, not for enjoyment
Got the round on golf now for $18 so I thought I'd give it a try. The overall course conditions and upkeep were horrible. Instead of having signs they just spray painted the cart path. Fairways on front 9 were flooded so I often had to take my tee shot and move it to a hill. Course layout was very poorly designed. Had to skip half a whole as the greens were being attended to and the greenskeeper saw me but kept working. Greens were ok thou. I wasnt too upset since the round was merely for practice but it was hard to play. Would never play it for enjoyment. Pace was fine as no one was on the course, which makes sense
Good deal for the money
While some of the traps are pretty much unplayable, filled with grass and deep holes, the greens are in good shape and play pretty even. The fairways are a little tight in places, but it is winter, so that's to be somewhat expected. The layout is good and offers opportunities for many kinds of shotmaking. The actual layout of the holes and how to get from one to the next isn't straightforward, so Imdid have to wander around a few times trying to find the right tee box. The distances aren't marked real well, and my GPS app didn't really work. Ferris may not be the best 4g wifi spot around. Overall though for $21 it's not bad at all. There was no crowd whatsoever at the course, hard to believe for a Friday afternoon.
Good Value
A unique layout that is fun to play. The value is there if you can tolerate a few inconviences. Our tee time was delayed 40 minutes as we waited for a Seniors tournament to finish. No excuse for water jugs to be empty, (or taste like old plastic). I admit kicking my ball out of a couple unplayable, (weeds, mud) traps. Still, an enjoyable outing. The course just needs some $$ TLC.
Beautiful blind shots
Even though it's a long drive it's well worth it.. Challenging blind shots and nice greens.. A MUST PLAY!!!
excellent course
Old brickyard is an awesome course wpould recommend any time! course very challenging
Great challenging course.
It is a good course to play at. I would most definitely invite my clients from the DFW area to a round at the Brickyard for a little friendly competition.
Better options in the area
We played on the day after Christmas, which also happened to be a Friday this year, and I was very shocked to see they allowed 6-somes. The course was pretty packed and they did not do a good job of spacing out the tee times. Also, it didn't help our pace of play that we were playing behind two 6-somes. The course itself is pretty fun to play. Not very difficult from the tips, but still a fun layout with some challenging holes. If you are a beginner or do not mind playing behind possible beginners, then, this course is a good choice. Overally, I would rather play Golf Club of Dallas or even Country View.
Great Round! Great Conditions!
I like this layout. If you looking for a good challenge , thi. Is the spot. Well worth the drive.
Waste of Money
Heard about the course so thougt I would try it. Wish I hadent wanted 60 mild drive wated green fee and wated time. Never play it again it's horrible design or layout. If I could get my money back I would so save yours and play so where else.
Fun track
Old brickyard is a fun course to play with a good challenge as well. The green rolled well and the fairways were in good shape for December. The course would be better to play a couple times to learn the bail out spots and where to navigate safely as there are plenty of blind shots to be played. Course was a good value and I will definitely head back.
Beautiful course!
Beautiful course, just a short drive from Dallas. Highly recommend it!
Fun Course
This continues to be a fun and challenging course to play. They continue to struggle with maintenance issues as the bunkers are completely unplayable. Overall, we look forward to returning again.
Lost
I thought the course was great and the people that worked there were very friendly. Also all of the people we ran into on the course were very nice. They showed us the way to many holes. That was the only problem we had was fiding our way around the course.I will be back because the people were very nice. And the course was good. Next time will be alot easier.
very tough greens
Course was in great shape but beware of the greens smooth as silk but the fastest I've found at a public course 3 putts galore
Should try it at least once
"Old" Brickyard is fitting. From the clubhouse and throughout the course you get the feeling it's best days are behind it. No food/beverage cart service. The cart paths are very rough #if any# in some spots and the usual amenities at the tee boxes were few and far between. I.e., divot sand, trash cans, ball cleaner. Fairways were hard but the greens were in fairly good shape. The low cost green fees don't demand enough to increase the upkeep. However, with that being said, it is very unique and has some historic charm to it. If you're not picky and want something outside the box at a great price you should give it a try at least once. Maybe in the spring or early summer when the fairways are soft/green.
Great layout, sub par condition
This is a really unique course that was a lot t of fun to play. Built on an old rock quarry; it makes for multiple blind shots and a coupe shots with over 100 foot drop. Greens were in excellent condition. However the condition of the rough, fairways and bunkers was sub par. However this did not detract from the overall experience. We will be back to play again soon.
Great view
Nice course..would recommend this course to anyone...
Challenging, bring your A game.
We played on Saturday the 11th, the morning after some heavy rain. The fairways were soggy, some of the greens were a challeng to get too because of the muddy conditions. Overwall, the course was a definite challenge, even with acceptable playing conditions. Bring your A game, otherwise just have fun and enjoy the nice layout of the course.

They have a senior scramble every Tuesday starting at 9:00. Its a lot of fun you should consider playing sometime. Once a month they have a fish fry after play as well for free. They are stating a bunker renovation process starting April 1st; was suppose to start in Feb. but with all the rain and snow its been to wet to start. The plan it to fix many of the best one's and convert several into grass bunkers as well. Should be pretty nice by the end of the month.....
