Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
The course is tuff
I always enjoy playing the Brickyard but the staff is rude.
Like meeting up with an old friend
If you are new to the Brickyard, or it has been a while, take a couple extra sleeves of balls. An all around tough challenging course, but especially number 10, should be par 7 I think, but I love it. Despite the lack of rain, and days on end of freezing temps, the warmer weather of the last week or so, had some of the greens actually beginning to green up. The pace of play was very slow, but then the Brickyard is not a course that is conducive to quick play, all the tee boxes for the most part are elevated, the hilly terrain makes for slow play, but the Brickyard is not meant to be a rushed experience. It is meant to be savored like a great filet mignon paired with a fine Cabernet...cannot wait to return once the spring temps and rains arrive and turn it all lush green. Staff was most excellent the steady 30 mph South wind made the challenge even more striking, but hey I broke a hundred and enjoyed myself with two old friends and made a new one, does not get much better than that. On a scale of 1 to 10 would have to give my day at the Brickyard a solid 9.5. I will be back you can count on that.
Hilly Terrain
Gas carts are essential playing this course. Lots of fun plus lots of probelms not knowing the course.
Good layout
This course has a fun layout that require good tee shots. Greens are always in good shape, the fairways have a lot of weeds in them but that's the only down fall. Over all a good course and should be played!
old brickyard
Very challenging course. Fun to play. The only negative is the greens were not overseeded.
Jd
Nice course, great shape. You need to place tee shots well. Will be back.
Old Brickyard
Course was in decent shape for the price. I expected it to be a bit nicer. But we had fun and would go back again.
So So
The course was ok and liked it. I got lost the signage was very bad had to let people go ahead of us to try and follow them. I want to play it again.
A fun track
The fairways are packed hard. People drive all the way to the greens and I don't understand why it is not marshalled to prevent destroying the turf, but it's not mine. The ball will roll forever and sometimes into hazards, due to the hard turf.
Best Bang for the Buck South of Downtown Dallas
Played here again yesterday and still never get tired of it. Greens are always good with tight fairways which I love. Cruised around in 4 hours, and only waited on one group the entire round and I was playing as a single. I still think holes 8 thru 12 are the toughest stretch of holes anywhere in the metro-plex. I love the view of the Dallas skyline from #5 tee box and finally birdied # 10 after many tries for a personal best of 74 at this course. FYI senior rate is $25 bucks and there senior age starts at 50...YEA!!!!!....Will be back again after the Thanksgiving Holidays...
Old Brickyard Needs Lots of Work!!
The Old Brickyard has the potential to be one the top courses in the area, BUT it needs lots of work. The fairways, tee boxes and sand traps all need a lot of attention. The greens, for the most part, were in fair to good condition. The cart paths are so torn up that in places they resemble four wheel drive roads in Colorado. The layout of this course is unique. The vistas are beautiful. It is a very, very short course even from the tips. I returned to play it after not playing it for several years - I was surprised to see how much it had deteriorated. The only way I would consider playing the Old Brickyard again is if GolfNow has another really low price deal.
Played better courses for less money
Wasn't sure what to expect from courses in the area being from out of state, so take that into consideration when reading this. The course design looked like some holes were forced into areas too small giving the appearance of being kind of gimmicky. If you are a longer hitter, the landing areas for some of the holes are really narrow. Tee box condition was 50/50. Some were okay, but others were pretty chewed up. The fairways were in ok condition, but get off of them by much and the ground was in pretty bad shape...rock hard and little grass. There is very little to indicate yardage other than the normal 200, 150, and 100 markers. You do get a book giving a description of the course, but it is a little hard to figure out exactly where the points are to base yardage off of. The greens held pretty well and were not very fast. Sand traps tended to be pretty muddy towards the middle.
You get what you pay for
We played this course on a late Saturday morning. Finished the front 9 in 165 minutes, but the back nine went much quicker (maybe it was the call into the proshop to send a marshall out). Of course, my expectations were low playing behind guys in jeans. Weeds in the fairways, ant hills all over every hole, and a couple of ridiculous pin placements caused me to say the course condition needed attention. The staff was friendly and when the cart girls finally came around they were nice to look at. The round is not worth a dollar over the $33 we paid to play this course. And hole #10 might make you consider retiring from golf.
Different, but fun
Unusual topography makes for fun challenge. Some really great holes that offer high quality shots.
Issues include no working ball washers.
Greens were fine. Fairways mown tight.
Very exposed to wind, so be ready on windy days.
Had a good time playing here.
Love this course
I've played this course three times and will continue to play here. It's a fun course for a good price
Fun and challenging course
Drove 45 miles to play this course. Too good of a GolfNow deal. Course was shorter than most but very challenging. There were blind shots, lots of elevation changes and plenty of shots over water. Gas powered carts because electric ones would not make it on this course. The guy in the club house was really nice and glad to have us there. Give it a try. It was fun.
Always a fun challenge
Fairways in rough shape, greens fair. For the price though, would still recommend
Nice Course Great Staff
This course is improving every week I play there.this course is such good shape the word is getting out it is getting to be difficult getting tee times without a weeks notice. Greens have been fertilized, fairways are in great shape and difficult but very playable for a mid par player. Texas Sized Hats Off to Randy and the staff.
Challenging course that was fun to play
Challenging course with lots of hills. Layout of holes is a nice break out and provides a fun experience...greens are some of best I've putted on this year...true rolling.
Will def be playing here again soon...especially at the price I paid.
The greens are always excellent.
Typically the greens are great and in the morning your ball will stick. The course is challenging and with a few blind shots on the front, you can have some very challenging shots.
The boxes and fairways are usually in good condition. I wouldn't rate them as great but definitely not bad.
The comfort of the clubhouse typically depends on who's there. It seems like some of the folks are hospitable and others aren't.
Overall this is is a good club but not a great club. I've always enjoyed playing this coarse, I just wouldn't say the amenities are great.

They do have books in the clubhouse for the course descriptions. But your assessment of the course is pretty accurate, it does need a little work.
