El Rio Golf Club
About
El Rio Golf Course in Fort Myers is a player-friendly layout that will appeal to players of all skill levels. It's an ideal course for beginners who are looking to get in some practice on a full-length course. The layout consists of mostly par 3s and most of the holes are on the shorter side. Though it's a seemingly simple design, the greens have slopes that range from subtle to dramatic, which can make determining your approach to them a daunting task. Trees that line the fairways demand accuracy but the landing areas are generous. El Rio Golf Course has a pace of play that makes it convenient if you're looking for a quick round and the layout is gentle enough for beginners, and even junior players, to tackle with confidence.

Worst Golf Course
On Thursday 21 June I took myv3 sons for a round of golf on what I thought would be a nice little track and we could enjoy 18 holes together. We are on holiday here from Scotland, and have been coming to Florida 2 times a year for around 20 years, so we have a fairly lengthy list of courses played. We had a tee time of just before 8am, duly attended and I paid the green/cart fees and we headed for the first tee.
We are 3 different standards of golfer, but we all have knowledge of the game and the etiquette that accompanies it.
We all hit off, hitting reasonable drives down the middle of the fairway only to loose two balls as the length of grass was ridiculous. Dropping balls and moving on we arrive at the green, to find it had been cored and was full of holes.
To narrow this down, we played a few more holes and each was exactly the same.
I spoke to the boys and asked their thoughts and we decided we did not wasn’t to continue in such poor conditions as it was not enjoyable.
We returned to the ‘clubhouse’snd were met with the fella I’d paid to get on and another fella who spoke to us on the first tee, who stayed rather abruptly ‘why are you back so soon, something wrong’. I explained to both that the condition of the course was not really up to standard and had we been informed of this we would not have paid to play. Both then became very ignorant a d more abrupt until after much deliberation, I was refunded my money. Having played golf at a fairly high level for approximately 45 years, I do feel that I have acquired fairly healthy knowledge of the game and the mechanics that are involved in all the running of golf courses/clubs.
I have given each catagory 1* and feel that is too much. We were totally disgusted by this behaviour and wil definitely not be back anywhere near it again
This course has a nice lay out
Course was in good condition considering all the rain we had her e the last few days , as usual the tee boxes and fairways and greens were in real good condition Kudos to the people who take care of the course they do a good job, I recommend this course !
Great Golf! Great People! Great Price!
Anytime I review a golf course I evaluate the value, friendliness of staff, and plying conditions. El Rio hits it out of the park! Yes, you can find a better course around but expect to pay double the money. This course has very friendly staff, a fun little course, and exceptional value. A GEM!
First Time Player
Nice par 3 plus, executive course with interesting variety of holes, so nice for short game shots. Greens were in very good condition, but fairways showed some problems probably from lack of rain earlier this year, but maintenance ongoing and improving conditions. Did have 18 holes (wasn't sure about that from the writeup), and clubhouse nothing fancy but nice as well, with friendly and helpful staff.
Average Executive Course
Tee boxes were in good shape ! Fairways were in good shape ! Greens were in excellent shape ! Nice course for the money and play this course a few times a month . I recommend this course for anyone looking for an enjoyable 18 hole get away !
Good executive course
This is a fun course, not very crowded and nobody pushing you. We had a relaxed round of golf and the course was in very good condition.
Nice course
Nice, small and Short 18 holde to work with Irons. Frindly People, all was Nice. Will come again.
Moderate Difficulty?
We always enjoy playing this course. Its moderate difficulty is deceiving. Most of the par-4's are relatively easy but most of the par-3's are difficult.
It's a pleasant challenge.
Fun Little Golf Course
My wife and I enjoy playing El Rio. The staff is always friendly and for what it costs to play is a great value. Course has a fun layout and they keep it in good condition for most part....
Fun course
Fun course. Nothing fancy. I've played this course several times. Would recommend
Warming up and removing winter “rust”
Only real objection was on pace of play when they put out a group of 5 “hackers”in front of us resulting in slow plsy
Not worth the bother.
There are too many other low cost courses in the area to bother with El Rio. A dried out cow pasture with condos next to the fairways. I hate to give a review like this but that is what it is.
Save your money!
This is a very dangerous course. The driving range is beside #10 with no net or any other divider. A person playing on the fairway could easily be hit by someone on the range. There are two holes where you drive in front of someone teeing off to get to your next hole. I have never heard "fore" called more often? Several greens are way to close to tees. Pace of play as very slow.
Just ok, nothing special
Very slow pace of play, not a great layout. Short tune up course but I won’t be a regular.
