Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Golfer Reviews
Good Course
I have played the course for over 20 years. Its a great layout with challenging greens which recently have been in fairly good shape. They are rarely cut enough to be considered fast.. The fairways are a different story as well as the cart paths which the owner has no inclination to fix.
In the Winter stay away if you are local as big groups from the Villages come in ,play slowly and have poor golf etiquette ,destroying the pace of play and there is no ranger to help.
In the past several rounds on Mondays ,the course mowers have shown little concern for the golfers sometimes holding up play ,and often clearly distracting anyone but a deaf or blind golfer.. But they have a job to do and it is what it is.
Great Value
Pace of play was no issue because we played in the afternoon of a hot day. I could have given 4 stars for the condition considering the price of the round. That's the reason for 5 stars on value. Don't find greens that nice for that price. We did get a good rate because we played in the afternoon I believe.
Was expecting a cow pasture and got average fairways and tees and super nice greens. Will play it again!
Cool Course
Enjoyed the day. Good pace of play and interesting layout. Definitely need to play a couple times. Will be back !
Silver Springs Shores

Nice!
I worked at Silver Springs Shores for a year in 1992 and it was NICE then and it is NICE now. I have not been there since then it has not changed. The greens were fast and smooth. Fairways are in great shape. About the only thing that I would even consider to be needing any kind of help would be the bunkers which are really not that bad the reason I say that is I sucked getting out of them. LOL! Good time friendly staff and yes will play again.
Potential
The course is laid out well, greens are slow but true. The fairways are hit and miss with grass vs. weed, and rough is not maintained.. Bunkers are less than desirable, and cart paths are horrendous.
Could be a premier course with some YLC.
Good value
Course is in good shape except cart paths have pot holes you can baptize somebody in. Waitresses inside seem preoccupied talking to each other. Cart girl was very courteous and quick.
