About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

What was missing?
The course itself was super, but they have removed so many trees on the front nine that the course was almost unrecognizable for those of us who have played there for years. The only drawback of the course was the concrete in the sidewalks and parking area. They really need to resurface those sidewalks before they destroy all their carts!
Grader course
Had a blast. Pace of play was great and course condition are great. For the value you can’t find a better course.
Course in decent condition. Clubhouse and cart paths need some love.
Course is a nice course in fairly good condition. The locker room and building exterior was very dated.
The cart paths were falling apart. It was often smoother to travel off the paths rather than on them.
Great Course
Always in good shape, but pace of play is slow. We were going a long nicely through eight holes and then hit a road block. We got to ten and it was two groups deeps and really slow after that. Really screws up your round. This twosome in front played through two foursomes, so everyone had to wait behind. Love the course unfortunately it’s always a slow pace even on Easter.
Great greens
Course was an great conditions. Greens are in excellent condition. Staff is always nice. Bar has great choices for beer and excellent prices. Been coming here for years. Great lay out! Must play course in the area.
Schedule earlier in the day on Thursdays
Keep in mind regular Thursday afternoon scramble is scheduled at 5pm. I was unaware of it , so was unable to take advantage of 3:30 tee time I had booked for 18 holes.
Too bad. I enjoy playing this course.
Pace of play
Whilst I would recommend the course, the pace of play was not good, waiting on each hole. In conversation with staff, this is the case for morning play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I look forward to going back at other times.
What a dump
The cart paths were so bad they were almost un-driveable. The greens were terrible. The fairways were like the roughs I normally play. The clubhouse was a rundown dump. Avoid this place!
Fantastic
Staff was extremely friendly. Pro shop, ranger, cart, and beverage cart personnel were exceptional. Course was in the best shape!
The course played great
We enjoyed the golf course except for playing behind a sixsome for nine holes with no ranger on the premises to monitor. It was awful that they wouldn’t let us play thru until hole #10.
