About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Good layout ,Nice greens ,poorly managed
This was a US Open qualifier course in the 1970's and has an intriguing layout with challenging greens. Current management however has been poor. Pace of play in the winter months is lousy because the Villages is booking large groups many of whom play poorly and slowly and have an attitude if you complain. There are no rangers that watch pace of play and this week was stuck behind 2 slow 5 somes with no one around to notice from management..
The owner is clearing a bunch of land for new development but doesn't seem to have funds to fix the cart paths and keep the fairways in shape.. Greens were slow but in good shape.
Several times there were not enough carts and players had to wait 20 minutes for a cart from those who finished play. It does look like they bought a few more carts since then however.

Hidden gem
First time playing course and will return.Front nine much shorter and easier than back.Lots of carries over water on tee shots.Greens good fairways a little thin due to weather.I'm sure will be much better next month.Price was excellent.
GOOD VALUE
COURSE WAS IN AVERAGE SHAPE. GREENS WERE VERY GOOD, FAIRWAYS NEED WATER, TEES WERE AVERAGE. OVERALL NOT A BAD COURSE.

Great course. Fun to play. Brought friends from the Netherlands. They thought course was great. Will be back soon.

Great layout, unfortunately a little crowded today. Great greens

The pace of play was horrific. We waited at least 5 minutes on every tee. All the fairways are dry as a bone. They should call them "sandways" at this course. In addition the bathroom looked like a bomb went off in it. We payed for 18 holes but left after 9. Stay away from this one folks. I wouldn't play it again with a free pass!
Greens were Great!
The overall conditions just need a little maintenance, but being the time of year where ground goes dormant it's understandable. The worst part of the outing was it took 5 hours to finish. We were a twosome with several foursomes in front of us! Never again will l set a 12 noon tee time, but then for the great GolfNow hot deal one can't resist.
