Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

Worth the drive
I drove 50 miles to play and I am glad I did. Nice Desmond layout with some challenging holes. Course in pretty good shape for the time of year. Greens were firm and fast. Well bunkered layout with strong par 5's.
Great layout, slow play
Course has a great design, conditions are good, and the price is right. But if you make a tee time, there is no guarantee you will get out at anytime near your tee time. Plenty of people just show up, pay their greens fee, and head to the first tee. Expect to see groups in front of you and a very crowded, slow front nine. Two or three foursomes waiting on each hole in some cases. No starter, no ranger, nobody spacing the groups out. The golf version of a traffic jam. Staff is very pleasant, but tee times are just a way to secure a price. Love the course, though.
Decent Course for the Money
Like this layout. Rough and fairways were dormant which is expected at this time of year. Greens were over seeded. As said before cart paths are terrible. Greens speed and conditions were great. Sand was heavy and deep. Pace of play was slooow. 4:20 for 18. Waited every shot. Will play again.
Good value.
Greens very good. Fairways spotty.
Had to follow a large group, pace slow.
Delayed 30 minutes at the first tee. Greens were extremely fast. Didn't score well but enjoyed the round.
Nice greens
Typical fairways for winter. No grass to hit off of except weeds. Tee boxes pretty good. Greens were excellent. Sand traps were great too. Nice that they had a refreshment cart.
One of the best around Ocala
CC at SS is spectacular. It's a challenge from the whites, but a monster from anything beyond. The front 9 seems shorter in length but has many difficult putting greens. The back 9 stretches your long shots. It's just a great course. There's a reason is used to be a US Open qualifier.
Great course for the price.
This is one of my favorite courses to play at in the ocala area without having to kill your wallet. Usually the greens and fairways are kept up very nice. They have some challenging holes hitting over water. My only complaint really for this course is the cart path. It looks like they went at it with a Jack hammer and just left it. But other than that. Great for the price.
First Time-Will come back
The course is in pretty good shape, considering that they would seem to have some money issues. They obviously put their funds toward keeping the course playable. The greens and fairways were in overall good. The traps were also mostly in good condition, but one had a big puddle in it and the rest was just mud. That should be corrected. Non golf issues go unresolved. Driving on the cart paths is like negotiating a bombed out roadway. The potholes are horrendous. For $36 bucks on Golf Now, it was a fair price. I loved the layout, which will likely bring me back. Several water holes, big doglegs etc. Just what I like in a golf course.
GN rating too high
I was expecting a 4 out of 5 quality course. I would say a 2 at best. The layout was good and challenging. The greens were good. The fairways were spotty and missing grass so hitting from dirt. The pace was very slow. The pathways were paved initially but with soooo many potholes it would be best to remove and make gravel.
The course washrooms were in bad shape.
The day was okay but wouldn’t rush back.
