Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
About
Opened in 1969, the Country Club at Silver Springs Shores has been host to a variety of mini-tour and U.S. Open Section qualifying events. It is known for having some of the fastest and most severe greens in the area. Desmond Muirhead, a longtime associate of Jack Nicklaus, designed the golf course, giving it a different character on the front and back nines. The first half of the golf course is a traditional parkland layout that mixes native trees and wide-open meadows. The back nine is a true Florida-style golf course with water coming into play on six holes. Country Club at Silver Springs Shores finishes with one of its toughest water holes, a par 5 starts with an intimidating tee shot past a massive lake that wraps around the landing area. Many locals consider Silver Springs Shores to be one of the best public golf courses in the Ocala area.

SilverSpring golf
Cart paths have needed repair for at least the past 10 years. Green are good. Fairways are bad. The layout is good.
Communication
We had a tee time for 18 holes for 9:49 and the when we arrived they told us they had a tournament booked for 12:30 and that we needed to return the carts by 12:15. We had already paid and they told us to get in as many holes as we can. They offered a rain check for 9 holes but we were only in town for a couple days. Not the best experience.
Disappointed
Fairways are rough, greens are ok. Pace of play was horrible. Almost 3 hours to play front 9. We got to 10 and a twosome that turned into a 3som appeared on the tee in front of us. Called the pro shop and they said they would handle it. They sent a teenager out to fix. He came back and told us they yelled at him told him to beat it. He said he knew them and was calling the manager. Never saw a soul from course again. The played ridiculously slow. Left carts all over the fairway. One guy appeared to be giving a lesson to another. Totally ruined the day. 6 hour day. Had not played there in years and probably will never again.
1 hour drive
Planning this year to experiment via GolfNow different courses somewhat near me. This course was an hour plus drive but I found it to be well worth the drive. I played with a 2 some who knew the course well and advised me of its history, having been in the 1960's a qualifying course for a PGA tournament. Cart paths broken down, some roughfairways, but every green was in very good shape. Water could come into play, but only for stray drives or mis-hits. It felt a bit like taking a walk through history. I recommend having a go!
Great Track
Course layout and Greens were fantastic. A few of the fairways need some work, cart paths need lots of work. With some investment, the could be a top course.
Enjoyed the round and a great value Va Golf now
Ccsss
The country Club at silver springs is an old local favorite, hosting some tour events back in the day. It is a very challenging layout, with multiple bunkers on most holes and large, layered greens that are in great condition, but vexing to read and tough. The only problem is that some fairways have the typical Florida problem, thin grass and tight lies
We always play pick and place if you land in a dirt spot on the fairways. The cart paths are pretty beat up and carts are old, staff is friendly and accommodating. It feels like a gem a bit passed it's prime but always a great value and fun round. If you score well here it feels like an accomplishment.
Needs improvement
Ive played this course 5-6 times in the past and it was a place that I would truly recommend because of the course layout and for the conditions. Went there for the first time in 2 years or so and it has really fell apart since. If you hit a fairway you may have to give the people you play with a couple club lengths to have a decent shot in the grass. Hopefully it bounces back to what it was. I will say that the greens have been kept up very well so just need some rain and grass to fill in the fairways!
Course is playable
Greens are nice - fairways and bunkers a bit rough. Playable. Fun layout
Fairways & Greens
I love the layout and that many of the holes have no homes real near the fairways. The greens were in great shape with challenging undulations, but not too awful fast. Unfortunately the fairways have many sandy patches that inhibit run-out and encourage you to improve your lie. The remaining cart path pavement should just be entirely removed and replaced with sand or gravel. Nevertheless, I will be returning because I like the layout and the green conditions so much. And, its still a good value for the price.
This course would be great if it grass in the fairways. The tee boxes and greens were in great shape. The fairways were a dustbowl.
Lefty
Nice layout. Greens and bunkers good. BYOR. No rakes in bunkers. Service at bar horrible. Her phone was more important than the customers. Staff in shop and the starter were good. Good value worth the drive.Minnesota
Tale of two Conditions
We have played 5 to 10 courses since arriving in Florida. Most of the courses are in this condition range. This course had the best greens around. They were small & slow but they looked immaculate. Every dollar this club brings in must be spent on the greens. The fairways, tee boxes, clubhouse, carts were just about the worst I have ever seen. There was next to no patches to even hit a golf ball off after you hit the tee ball. The research says there used to be tour event here but that was a long time ago.
