Golfer Reviews
Needs water and it will be fine
Martin Downs played well, nice layout and somewhat forgiving. The fairways had tight lies and the greens would not hold because they were so dry. I know the area is in a drought, but the course just needs some water. Will definitely play the course again.
Awesome layout, poor conditions
This place would be absolutely amazing in better shape. Love the layout. As it is, it’s pretty rough - but it’s priced accordingly so I really don’t mind.
Good course in rough condition
Course needs reconditioning, but we knew that going in. We love the holes and layout. What broke the camel's back on this particular day was pace of play, We quit after 13 holes since we were on pace for a 5-hour round.
The Reviews are all Stellar, the Couse not so much
Previous Reviews are high rated, and the layout, especially the back nine, reveals an older mature course built around older condos, its wide open, the par 5’s are fun, the par 3’s are over water and challenging. The problem was course conditions; and maybe all FL courses are currently suffering the same problem: the course was dry as a bone, no rain and theirs no irrigation (?) so everything is severely parched, the green bumpy, the fairways brown and patchy, etc. certainly NOT as advertised as a practice course for the US open. It was only $55 but actually not worth it. Rumor is it was justvrecently bought and has been neglected for years, hence the current condition but that is not verified.
Poor conditions
Play here about two weeks ago. Course was better condition than it was today. Conditions were poor. Fairways and most tee boxes had no grass.most holes were in horrible condition. I love the course and the employees .I love the layout, I know we need rain down here. But other of the courses in the area under the same conditions are in a lot better shape than this one. Weeds are prominent throughout the fairways and Teebox s I don’t know if I’m going back.
Good value
Greens had a lot of non-green turf grass popping up and a lot of sand. Loved the layout. Lots of sand traps
Trade Off- Great Pace of Play but Poor Conditions
The course is in terrible shape. The fairways are dry and patchy. The greens have lots of poana grass and sand. Putting is impossible.
The only good thing I can say about the club is you can play 18 holes in 4 hours.
This used to be an awesome club.
Played with a couple of my buddies. Haven’t played this course in a few years. The price to play was $58.58 and for this time of year was reasonable. After playing the course I hate to say it, but I’m very disappointed. Years ago this place was mint. The starter was awesome. Kept the 1st tee moving along nicely. No driving range. You hit in a cage on a mat near the parking lot. Typical municipal golf course atmosphere. The golf course was crowed. Pace was slow. Eighteen holes in four and a half hours. Fairways were non existent. Weeds and bare ground everywhere. At times I wasn’t sure if I was in the rough or fairways. Tee were in need of grass and water. Some tees were plan awful. Greens were just OK. I can see why the fees were only $55. Went in for lunch ordered a nice salad. After a few minutes the girl came back and told me they no longer have it on the menu. So I order a simple side salad with thousand island dressing. After a few minutes the girl came back to tell me they are out of thousand island dressing. So I changed my dressing. When I finally got my salad, some of it was brown so I didn’t eat much of it.
Like I said Martin Downs at one time was just a great place to play and dine at. Not so much nowadays. My buddies and I agreed we would not be returning anytime soon.
Nice Track
Starter was excellent in having people go out at the proper tee times. No waiting on the course during the round.
Course needs work
Course layout is good and challenging. However, it's a mess. Weeds, significant dirt patches, broken cart paths. Balls hit dirt and sand patches in the fairways and can't roll out.
