Fun pre-Recession revival story
Tesoro is a fascinating time-capsule of a golf facility. Built practically on the eve of the Recession and loaded with ostentations amenities like a 100,000-square-foot, Italianate clubhouse and two maintenance-intensive golf courses, it struggled mightily over the following decade and was fully closed as recently as 2021.
But it’s getting back on its feet, with the Palmer Course back up and running, with some of its excesses being addressed to make it more sustainable. As a result, it still feels grand but a bit more sensible, with an enjoyable mix of holes. The scale of the place and the winding routing makes coming up the 18th, which plays right up to the edge of the clubhouse, feel like a triumphant homecoming.
As the club rebuilds its membership, it will be fun to return to see the resurrection of the Tom Watson-designed course on property, too.
