Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

Friendly staff
The staff was especially friendly providing me with range balls and as soon as I pulled up they had a cart for me to put my golf bag in. The course was in good shape and I enjoyed my round.
So so course
When we arrived there was no bag drop. Finally found someone to pick us up in parking lot. Check in was ok, but we’re not given any range balls or directions to range or first tee. Snack bar had very limited drinks. Got to range, found about 10 balls to hit before tee time. Course was in fair to poor condition. The problem is there aren’t many options in Panama City. Maybe we were too early for better conditions, but for the cost it was not a good deal.
Challenging course
Good challenging course! Has lots of water so course management is a must! Any negative comment is it seems they’re losing some of their greens as there a lot of bare spots in a number of them.
First visit to Bay Point
Nice course/layout. Generous fairways. Water in play on many holes. Fairways and greens in good condition. Both fairly fast.
Playing again
I started too late in day to finish, loved layout. Playing again on 25th.
Recommend 100%.
Twilight
Twilight rate was a little high knowing that there was a good possibility that you don’t finish 18 holes.
The greens were in bad shape, the fairway was dry, not sure I’d play it again.
Couple of the greens had grass sprigs growing but the are very fast winter greens.
Far from a Nicklaus Course
I would have thought a course using the Nicklaus name would have been in better condition. I know it's winter, but you can tell that in season this course isn't all that much better. Most notably the greens, although fast, there were many that had bare spots and large areas of patched repair. Also, the perimeter of the majority of the holes were poorly maintained or not maintained at all. The layout was nice and definitely a challenge. I'm just not sure that if Jack were to visit this course with his name attached to it, it would put a smile on his face. I'll probably give the course one more chance when it's in-season just to see if the conditions improve.
Nice course, poor greens
Great course, love the layout and challenges from #2 tee box (7 handicapper) wish greens were in better shape, I played this course 5-6 times in February and like the course but the greens are in rough shape and you don’t get rewarded with good wedge shots or good putts because greens don’t have much grass and very sandy and bumpy.
Overall a great course and hope the greens come back when the nicer weather returns
That was very fun!
The wind was strong and it was a little cold at the beginning of 8:30.
However, it was a very fun course.
The difficulty of the course was high, and the green was also undulating and difficult.
I want to challenge again!
Golf
A fantastic course that is well maintained and staffed with plenty of helpful people. It was very busy and most groups were playing as five somes. I thought this would be a negative to a great day but it was very easy and kept the pace of play just right. Never have seen groups of five going off. The had so many tee times it was the best thing. Worked out great. Most impressive. The practice range is also very nice.
