This course is an average municipal course. The tee boxes and fairways were about what you would expect of this type of course. Wasn’t very crowded the day we played and we finished 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours. The greens are rough and need attention. Overall, for the price of the course is worth going out and playing a round of golf.
Pensacola Osceola
Well, the sod laid down earlier this year has "taken" and has definitely improved some parts of some fairways. Greens are mostly in terrible condition as large (2ft. diameter) patches of I don't know what diseased brown areas permeate almost all of the greens. It's as if the maintenance supervisor simply doesn't spray the chemicals necessary to curtail these diseased areas. Who knows? The city of Pensuckola might not give him the budget to buy them as they ARE expensive.
Way too much sand in the bunkers. Too many unrestrained people make up the clientele out there as several will try to jump on hole no. 10 in front of people playing the front 9. Apparently they just don't any staff out there to stop to this!! Also, anybody who ever gave this golf course above 3 stars- stop it please.
Could be better
The course could use some tlc. Number 16 cart path needs alot of work, its almost death defying to travel up that slope. Numerous truck lots of dirt are needed to make traveling along the course more pleasurable.
Shrinkflation Hits Divot Sand
Asked golfer at the 1st-Hole empty stand, "Where's the Divot Sand?" "Shrinkflation," was all he said. Upon arrival at 10th-Hole, its Divot Sand stand was empty too. I love this noble, historic (1926) course. Shamefully, Administrators have let it deteriorate remarkably in the two short years I've played Osceola. Another golfer remarked, sadly, the course looks like Beirut-- bombed out. Club Pro, Admin, City Council, Mayor-- you're not saving $$$ by removing Divot Sand so that players can do their part to repair club strikes. And where are the ball washers! Cypress Lakes has repair sand, ball washers, and is in so much better condition and cheaper to play there. You're giving the impression that you want everyone to contribute to Osceola's deterioration so you can shut it down! Result: Co$t to play grossly out of whack w/ course condition. Please show some Pride of Ownership and get this venerable, Century-old Gem back in playable condition.
Not a bad value if you don't mind waiting
The fairway is kind of beat up. There was no Marshall to hurry people who were holding things up.
The course is not very green so lots of places where you are hitting off dirt or sand
It is a public course
This is a public golf course owned by the city of Pensacola. The course layout is pretty cool, nice for beginners. Hard to lose a ball! I will say the front nine are in need of work, thin grass, random sand patches, greens. Etc. the back 9 looks like a totally different course haha. My cart, when I got it, was out of the sand to fill divots, was full of trash from old score card, to bottle caps. I definitely felt like I was at a public course. The pace of play SLOWED down on the back nine, big ole groups. I don’t mind honestly, I understand everyone’s out to have fun. I ended up stopping at 13 holes due to how long it was taking (only cause I had stuff I could get done). I see a lot of potential with this course and don’t know what the situation is with funding, or lack of employees. No idea, but definitely needs some upgrades. It’s all in the details, make sure the cart is ready. Put some signs up to help people find their next hole, put some ball cleaners. It’s the little things that will make this course a lot better. I would probably play it again, but this definitely wouldn’t be the first choice.
Friendliest staff in the South. Thanks for a great time.
Historical Course
Was looking forward to playing this old historical course but was disappointed by the conditions of greens and fairways.
Good value
Good course to just go out and play some golf. You will find most of the course is very dry and most shot are off the ground with very little grass. Staff is friendly and pace is quick.
long
No tee-it-forward for the high handy capper. Need more grass on fairways, less weeds and sand.
Course conditions
To be a public course, it’s too expensive for course conditions.
