You can go from birdie opportunity to scrambling for double if you don't repect the approach on the par-4 18th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Due to incalcuable elevation change, the par-3 10th is one of the hardest 145-yard holes I've ever played. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Two Different courses
The front nine were in bad shape, the rough was patchy. A large majority of of the bunkers were under repair, but they were over grown and unsightly. The back nine were gorgeous and after playing the front nine I felt somewhat cheated. I wouldn't play there again, but if they can bring the front nine us to snuff with back it would be a great course. Pace of play was very slow at 4:45 for a twosome.
Don't waste your time and money
Do yourself a favor and go to your local driving range instead. It's not worth the drive out there and it's not worth the money. The course is in horrible shape, the bunkers are in desperate need of repair (mostly grass and no sand), standing water in the fairways and they need a new golf course marshall with better customer service skills, attitude and understanding of the game of golf. Lastly, our cart ran out of juice on hole # 16. Needless to say, I won't be wasting my time by playing here again.
Enjoyed the round
Played with my wife and father-in-law...we all had a great time...pace was a little slow at first but started to open up after the 4th hole. Course was in great shape. Can be a little challenging with rolling hills along with plenty of water and sand in all the right places. Can't beat the value and it is just under an hour from the Northern Virginia (NOVA) area. My wife and I have played the course once before but this was the first for my father-in-law...he said he will be back. A nice change of pace from the NOVA area.
Great round of golf
Cant say enough about vistas, guy in pro shop very nice..course in good shape and a GREAT value..you wont regret playing there
Well worth the drive!!
The course is almost all the way back to its former glory, and only a few bunker renovations remain. Every round is a tough test, with a premium in driving accuracy. Love the layout, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommended for any level of golfer!
Great place to play golf
Great golf course, but staffing was inadequate on the day I played, however, I will gladly play again.
A Work in Progress That’s a Challenge for All
This was my third time playing Blue Ridge Shadows, first in two years. As other recent reviewers have noted, the course is undergoing reconditioning for all of the bunkers. As of this posting, only the bunkers on the first few holes and final stretch of holes have been completed, more on that in a minute.
When I arrived, I was given a thorough overview of the course and the conditions to expect during my round by the pro shop attendant which I appreciated (especially knowing to play the uncompleted bunkers as GUR, which worked to my advantage several times).
For those who have not played BRS before, this is an incredibly challenging layout. From drastic elevation changes to hazards on both sides of the fairway, sculpted greens, blind shots, and undulating fairways, this course demands your focus and attention with every shot. I would not recommend this course for beginner golfers as it may take the joy of golfing out of you. For advanced golfers looking for a stronger challenge than Shenandoah Valley or Bowling Green, this course is definitely for you. Compared to those two courses I average at least 10 shots more here.
Since I last played here two years ago, I noticed a few minor changes in what appears to be an attempt to make the course a little less aggravating, like the removal of some thick rough in some spots. The Bermuda grass fairways and (soon to be) white sand bunkers add a nice aesthetic touch to a course located near several others that use only bentgrass and native sand. The greens roll semi-fast and mostly smooth but the high traffic tends to show its wear with ball marks and scuffs everywhere.
It was a bit tough for me to gauge the condition of the renovated bunkers as it was raining through a good part of my round and the sand was compacted but if the maintenance crew get around to raking the bunkers, I think they will play very nicely indeed.
Overall it was a good experience, the staff is friendly and obviously very attentive to getting feedback on the course (there was even a survey attached to each golf cart). The food is pretty decent although $4.50 seemed a little steep for the single hot dog I ordered (call me cheap). I live over an hour away from BRS so I’m not sure when I’ll be up for the challenge again but I recommend to those looking to test their skills to book a round, it’s worth at least one play.

Not much like it in this area
Course conditions: Probably seen much better days - Overall not bad for the price
Staff: Mediocre service all the way around
Pace of play: Garbage. A lot of hacks, which was a surprise to me considering the difficulty of the course. They probably should stick to Brambleton.
Course Layout/Difficulty: Awesome. This is the reason I will be back numerous times. This certainly qualifies as a championship course
Give them a second chance
I went in this site before I drove 40 miles and got upset. Let me say that the reviews are not current and other than a few bunkers that needed to be repaired the course was in fantastic condition. Fairways were in great shape and greens were as well. They are working on the bunkers but hey don't hit into them and you'll be ok. Give the place a second chance and you will not be disappointed
Layout is great conditions are not
While I appreciate the effort to restore this gem , they have a long way to go . Traps are still in poor condition, areas around the fairways and greens are in rough shape . Would only play with hot deal pricing until conditions improve
Fun track to play
We played Blue Ridge Shadows on a rainy wet Friday in early May. The course design was challenging and well laid out but any level player would enjoy this course as there are 5 sets of tees to choose from.
They had to close the back nine while we were there because there had been so much rain recently
so we played the front 9 twice.
The slope rating from the white tees was 131 at 6204 yards. If you like playing from the tips a 144 slope rating and 7315 yards await you.
The clubhouse was a nice place to hang out in the spacious clubhouse after the round for some beers and watch golf on TV. Only drawback was some of the many bunkers are in need of some upgrading, but i do look forward to returning and playing the entire course.
I think the course is starting to return to its former status. They had a few rough years with maintaining the course. Looks like the ownership group is finally willing to put some money into it. It's a shame it took so long. Staff is great. Options are very limited in the pro shop. Hopefully with all the hard work the grounds crew is putting in it will pay off with more players. Used to be one of the better courses to play in NOVA. I sure hope it gets back to that soon.
WoW!
Great course layout, great condition, great value!
Great day, good round
Enjoyed our round yesterday. The course was in very good shape and the weather was perfect.
