Teeing off at 6:25am is a real treat with this fun opening hole. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

The par-5 6th is one of the best scoring opportunities on the front nine after a few devilish holes. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

The double gree of the par-4s #11 and #13 require a lot of precision and accuracy. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

You can go from birdie opportunity to scrambling for double if you don't repect the approach on the par-4 18th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Due to incalcuable elevation change, the par-3 10th is one of the hardest 145-yard holes I've ever played. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Hilly, narrow and windy
The course layout rewards accuracy over distance. Water hazards are relatively few in number, but positioned so as to force some hard decisions for most intermediate golfers. The hilly terrain means that many shots will be played with the ball above or below foot level. Winds from the west will affect many tee-shots, since the tee boxes are often placed on crests. Greens were firm, but collar and approach areas on many holes were a bit soggy, complicating the choice of short irons. Several holes offered excellent vistas of the surrounding mountainsides.
Great layout!
Challenging course and in great shape for this time of year! Some tricky corners and hills make this a favorite. Ball placement over distance is key on many holes. Staff is great, clubhouse is very nice.
Layout has everything
Downhill shots, uphill shots, flat holes, hilly holes, holes with vistas, blind tee shots, elevated tees....course has all of those. Some bunker maintenance playing as ground under repair; don’t hit it there! Other than that, course in great condition. A refreshing departure from the mundane.
Blue Ridge Shadows is Back
I played this course almost weekly a few years ago. Was a member.. Always enjoyed it. But then it went extremely downhill and I stopped playing there. Probably haven't played at the Shadows for two years until today. Saw that the reviews were improving and thought I'd give it a try so talked my foursome into going. I was very pleased. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens A+. Greens were fast and very challenging. With the exception of a few traps it was in excellent shape. They have rehabbed some of the traps and they are filled with white sand. One disappointment was that the signature waterfall on 18 was not running.
Will definitely start frequenting this course again and will tell my golfing friends to do the same.
Good value
Course was in pretty good shape! They are finishing work on bunkers on holes 4 and 6, but other than that things were in great shape! Love the course layout!
Layout is a lot fun and challenging
We always enjoy playing at Blue Ridge Shadows. The course was in great shape, most of the bunkers have been redone. Staff is very friendly, the grill serves good food. Course was very crowded, but pace was fine. We are glad some of the wild areas have been mowed.
Good for the money.
The course was good for a $30-35 weekday rate. Tee boxes are a little rough and they are still repairing some bunkers from over a year ago. Greens were in pretty good shape. Golf carts not charged and the guy in the club house told me not to worry about the battery light but we had issues getting up the hills toward the end of the round.
Enjoyable Round
If you enjoy varied terrain in a course, this certainly will satisfy. I enjoyed the challenge the course is presenting. With great weather that day, a perfect golf outing.
needs work
played BRS many times this year no improvements with sand traps unplayable like this for two years
Great course
This course is challenging and makes you use all the clubs in you bag. Remember to bring extra golf balls.
Great course
This is a great course if you're in the Front Royal/Winchester area. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. I've not eaten there, but the menu seems quite nice. The course is filled with beautiful vistas. It is a very challenging course with lots of elevation changes and water hazards. Some long par 4's, a par 3 crossing a ravine and going uphill. While it can be intimidating for a beginner like me it still offers an enjoyable time. Definitely a course you need to check out.
Great day. Course in very good condition and not busy.
Had a wonderful time. Nice day and everyone was terrific!
Two Different courses
The front nine were in bad shape, the rough was patchy. A large majority of of the bunkers were under repair, but they were over grown and unsightly. The back nine were gorgeous and after playing the front nine I felt somewhat cheated. I wouldn't play there again, but if they can bring the front nine us to snuff with back it would be a great course. Pace of play was very slow at 4:45 for a twosome.
Don't waste your time and money
Do yourself a favor and go to your local driving range instead. It's not worth the drive out there and it's not worth the money. The course is in horrible shape, the bunkers are in desperate need of repair (mostly grass and no sand), standing water in the fairways and they need a new golf course marshall with better customer service skills, attitude and understanding of the game of golf. Lastly, our cart ran out of juice on hole # 16. Needless to say, I won't be wasting my time by playing here again.
Enjoyed the round
Played with my wife and father-in-law...we all had a great time...pace was a little slow at first but started to open up after the 4th hole. Course was in great shape. Can be a little challenging with rolling hills along with plenty of water and sand in all the right places. Can't beat the value and it is just under an hour from the Northern Virginia (NOVA) area. My wife and I have played the course once before but this was the first for my father-in-law...he said he will be back. A nice change of pace from the NOVA area.
