Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club

First time playing this course and loved the layout!

The sand traps definitely needed work, but I was told that this was planned.

I was warned that the bunkers were under repair and that the greens had been aerated at the time of check-in so I was prepared to look past that as I made my way around the course. The rough, however, needs some work, Reminds me of Jacksons Chase (the locals will understand). You shouldn't have to search very long for a ball that went 5 yards off of the fairway!

The trees are deadly here! If you see or hear that you went into the trees, just hit another ball. Your not finding it! I played with some guys that insisted they could. They were wrong and it added to the pace of our play and I had to apologize to the group behind us after the round was over.

Blue Ridge Shadow isn't worth a drive from anywhere outside of 15 minutes. The course is just okay. Condiions were a 2 out of 5. All of the bunkers are unpayable to the point where the local rule is a free drop. I mean, there's 4 foot high grass growing in the bunkers. Yo, BRS...cut it, rake it, anything!

Lots of blind shots and fairways that run out. We played the whites and could have moved back a tee, but I can't stand courses that penalize you for hitting a nice long drive. Really just disappointing overall.

Food was good, beer was cold, clubhouse was fine. The course is in total disrepair. Really disappointed.

After reading the other reviews i was excited to play here, Coming up the road to the club house saw some bunkers with beautiful white sand now i was happy with my chose to play here that didn't last long. We started on #10 that was fine. It was either 11 or 12 I hit into the bunker and lost the ball it was so over growen with weeds I never lost a ball in a bunker before.We started to notice things like many of the bunkers in very bad shape weeds growing in the center of the fairway. Finally made it to the front 9 more of the same but not as bad. This could be a beautiful course it is very challenging has many blind shots and changes in elavations. You can use every club in your bag which is what i like. Go play if you get a hot deal not worth full price until they fix the course up a little bit.

This course is our go-to course in the local area. It has been the best of the four that are in the local Front Royal area. However, the course has fallen into disrepair, to the point where I would avoid playing it until after all the renovations have been done, and the course conditions have come back to their normal, and excellent selves. I do look forward to next year or so (summer 2017) when I will go back. I cannot recommend this course until then. There are other courses in the vicinity that do not exhibit the absolutely poor conditions (now) that Blue Ridge Shadows does. I'm hoping they make it through this time period.

overall the course was in pretty good conditions except for the bunkers. you could basically just write them off as ground under repair. there was grass and weeds growing in almost every single one as tall as your clubs were long. never seen such neglect.

Played in 4th week of July (hot!) but we rode. Got a hot deal for a cheap price. Me and my golfing buddy live local and in the past had considered this the premier course in the Front Royal, VA area. Not this year, for sure. The staff is friendly, the clubhouse is nice, the bar is good, but the conditions were absolutely, positively horrible. This is especially since my experience has been that BRS is the nicest course here. It is a real treat to play here when the conditions are nice. They're doing some bunker renovation, so only #17 & 18 bunkers are any good. All the others have weeds, etc growing. The greens are okay. The fairways have lots of bare spots, and none of the rough has any manicuring whatsoever. I truly hope this course is not in a "death spiral" and look forward to playing here next year. With the conditions as they are, I cannot recommend playing this course. There are much better options around in the immediate vicinity.

Course conditions were excellent. Fairways are very soft and you get very little roll but they are very consistent. Greens were in excellent shape. They run very true once you figure out the grain! Staff was very nice and we got a great bargen on a Golf Now hot deal for only $12.00 each. Only negative on course conditions were all the bunkers were under repair except on 18. They had a sign at the check in desk that they were under going rehab but no one told us to play them as ground under repair until a maintenance guy told us. We saw many other golfers playing from them so communication was lacking. My one major negative was pace of play. Front nine went well right at 2 hours. The back nine took over 3 hours. We had two groups ahead of us who just diddled around. On one tee the group hit 11 tee shots! We saw a marshal on the second hole and never saw another one. Cart girl said she would let the clubhouse know when a guy in the group behind us complained but it never got any better. Overall a real nice course, nice people, just need to monitor what is going on out there.

I live 1 hr half away and let me tell you it was a waste of time. I played this course the second year it was opened and was very beautiful course I don't know what happened. Everything is out of control.. They said they were starting bunker renovations. Every bunker except 18 had grass and weeds growing and sand was a rock mix.. All tee boxes looked like the had cancer. Some had half the grass missing. I played it for very cheap but after finishing the first hole I wanted to get my money back. Will not play this again.

I have an expectation for good course conditions when I play any course in the Raspberry Management fold. Blue Ridge Shadows does not meet my expectations. No starter to give instructions and few were given by pro shop staff. Hot and humid day and no beverage cart; water coolers on the course had the distinctive taste of garden hose! Tee boxes were a disgrace; it appeared little or no maintenance other than mowing. Bunkers overgrown and no sand except for the few on hole #18 that were beginning to be renovated. Give this course several months to recover and sow signs of renewal before going here. Too many other good options in the area.

This course has a great layout with lots of elevation changes and it used to be in pristine condition (kind of like a Raspberry Falls feel). Sadly, now there are lots of tee-box issues, long grass laying around, greens were a little rough to say the least. It' really a shame because this place has incredible views, and is challenging for all golfers. Put some $$ into this place and get it back to what it once was!!!

I am a 5 handicap and this course was all that I could handle. The rough was about 7 inches thick and nearly unplayable. If you found the ball all you could do was gouge the ball out and take your medicine.

This course has it all...tight holes, elevation changes, forced carries, etc. that pushes a good golfer to play their best. You MUST hit good tee shots as there are no bailout on any of the holes except for maybe hole number 18 where you can miss over into an adjacent fairway ( I actually birdied the hole for there!) If you don't hit the fairway, you will struggle to even find your golf ball in that rough.

The greens don't have alot of undulation but were rolling nicely even though they didn't visually look all that nice. This course didn't need tough greens because the journey was in trying to get to the green!

Tough course that will make you golf your ball for sure.

Very friendly staff, was met in the parking lot with our cart. Course conditions were not as good as we expected. Greens had been aerated recently and still showed it. Bunkers were not in good condition and looks like they had been forgotten on some holes. Liked the layout of the course but it appears they are having a maintenance issue. Disappointed due to reviews,was expecting more.

Fun course and challenging layout. Green speed has picked up this year as opposed to ones past but I never pass up a hot deal at the shadows.

Nice, very challenging layout that can play very long from the tips. Nice scenic course except on the road side where the hotel and businesses are visible. Very, very, hilly; several blind shots, plenty of water but not excessive . Fairways were in very good shape, greens were still a little dormant but very fast and true, several with a lot of undulation.. Tee boxes were in need of some TLC, sparse grass.. Some bunkers were OK but several were in very bad condition with no sand (GUR) or weeds. Rough was pretty wild, if you don't hit the fairways it's really hard to find your ball especially on some of the blind holes. I suspect it's just a little too early in the season to expect great conditions but I would play it again regardless.

I've been able to play this course several times now buying "Hotdeals" off of golf now. These deals have been the best value I've ever got off of golfnow for the past couple of years I've been a member. Every time I've played Blue Ridge Shadows I've played for $13.49 ($10 Hotdeal +taxes and fees).
I've enjoyed playing Blue Ridge Shadows every time for the course layout, staff friendliness, pace of play and of course the value! Giving the amount of rain we've had and it being winter the course is in good shape. It was cart path only and I only saw 3 other singles playing and one foursome during my round. It was great to have a day out on the course to myself and experience good golfing conditions, staff friendliness and even being able to tee off before my tee time. I need to add that I am most always early to any golf course and the times I've showed up to BRS they have offered to let me go out earlier than my tee time. The greens have been slow (it's winter) and I'm sure the greens keepers haven't been able to mow because of the amount of rain and snow we've had this winter. My experiences playing golf at Blue Ridge Shadows have been very enjoyable each time. I'm grateful to have been a member of Golfnow for a number of years so I can find these kind of deals and experience really good golf courses.
