Due to incalcuable elevation change, the par-3 10th is one of the hardest 145-yard holes I've ever played. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Solid
For March the course was in good shape. The Shadows is one of the premier courses in the Shenandoah Valley - you owe it to yourself to come out for a round.
Nice layout
A bit pricy for the winter conditions. Greens were beat up.
Shadows
This is the best overall course in the area. They take good care of the course all the way around. Well maintained fairways and greens and a nice challenge for any level of golfer. Also the scenic views that surround the course on almost every hole make for a very relaxing very enjoyable round of golf.
Great Day of golf
The staff was great the starter went through the card and told us where the best place it hit the ball on a few of the holes. It was a mountain course so sometimes you where hitting to places you could not see. So the info we got from the starter was very helpful. The course was in great shape. The greens were great to putt on except some people need to learn to fix their divots. I enjoy the course it as a great day of golf for all of my group.
Great Course For The Money
I basically grew up playing a lot of other courses in the area and had driven by Blue Ridge Shadows countless times, but this was my first time playing. This was definitely better than most other courses in the area, especially when playing on a discount through this site.
The afternoon I played, the course was in solid shape. The greens were super soft, which made them easy to hold even from long distance, but unfortunately this also meant that just walking across them left small indentations. There were also a lot of ball marks on each green that hadn't been repaired, but as long as you didn't have to fix those, the greens rolled quick and the lines seemed easier than average to read. Two greens with lots of slope had some problematic patches that must have been under repair, but otherwise were in good shape. The tee boxes were a little spotty, but it was still easy to find a decent spot to use.
Overall this course was a lot of fun. There's a ton of topography which presents interesting and unique challenges on each hole. There are a couple fun tee shots where you're WAY above the fairway and also a par 3 that plays straight up hill. Compared to other courses in the area that have chunk-inducing clay fairway soil, this course was great for taking true divots and shot-making.
All in all, a few things could be improved but it's a great/fun course, especially for the cost.
Awesome course
Great staff and excellent course. Will return in the future...
Course is unique
Love this course, lots of variety and elevation changes. Played on a Sunday and the pace was very slow, with a wait on every shot. Too bad they don't use a marshal to speed up play. Course condition was good, some of the tee boxes were fair. Too bad people don't fix ball marks, rake traps or sand/replace divots. Are they lazy, ignorant, or both? In that regard I would love to see the course take a more proactive approach on how the above is handled.
Good Conditions
In thinking about it, I'm not sure that I've played another course more often this summer than BRShadows. The only real differences in each trip has been the condition(s) of the course. This time around the tees and rough were pretty dry; rough I understand if there's not been a lot of rain, but the tees looked like they needed some help. Played the front 9 as a single and then joined a three-some I'd been chasing on the back 9. An enjoyable time both as a single and as an addition to another outing. Greens were in fine shape (except #16), and the staff was working on the bunkers, some of which needed some sand and additional repair(s). Always a fan of the layout as you get 2 views in 18 holes: a wooded front 9 and an open, "linksy" back 9. A great place to practice for either type of sight-line off the tee(s).
What a shame
This was my first round of golf here and from the highway the course looked wonderful. But what I found were tee boxes torn up and dried out, two greens with wide areas of burnt out grass cutting the greens in two, one fairway bunker totally ruined and all other bunkers weren't raked, and ruts in and around the greens where mowing equipment dug up the soil. The layout is fantaastic and challenging indeed but the condition was poor at best. When this first opened, it was a natural beauty and an up scale daily fee operation. From my perspective, there is no infusion of money to maintain it as it once was and should be. It may soon join the ranks of failing golf courses. How sad!
Conditions are a bummer
Played this course a few times before and was really disappointed in the conditions this time out. Lots of fairways and tee boxes were beat up and it looked like one of the fairways (#7) was being harvested for sod. Usually see better from the Raspberry family of courses (I've played most of them).
On the bright side, the greens are recovering nicely from the aeration they did recently. An interesting layout with some elevated tee boxes and some cool character holes (#1 and #14). Would still recommend if you can get a good deal on a weekend and the drive doesn't bother you. Clubhouse also does an awesome pulled pork sandwich if you're grabbing a bite after your round.
Aerated Greens
The greens were aerated. Impossible to putt on the greens with all of the sand. There are a few blind shots.
Great day of golf!
The course was great! I thoroughly enjoyed my round! The greens were aerated, but we got a great deal because of it ($29). Only drawback is it's a bit of a hike (50miles) from where I live. But if you have the time, it is a pretty easy drive, and worth it!
Beautiful Golf Course
Excellent value for your money on a spectacular golf course with breathtaking views. Challenging yet rewarding greens!
Price was great, but course was disappointing
The course design is interesting. Course conditions were far from outstanding though. Both tees and greens were rough. Greens had many pockmarks and scrapes. No ranger led to a plus FIVE hour round. Ridiculous. No beverage cart, and no water on course.
Disappointed
First the picture on the website is gorgeous and I actually recognize seeing that hole - minus the gorgeous landscaping. When I saw the hole I thought it looks like they were trying to mimic a hole at Augusta, only from the shape and the positioning. At Blue Ridge Shadows today it looks NOTHING like the picture. The course has great potential however it's not taken care of at all. It looks like the players never repair divots or ball marks. The majority of the staff were average or below average as far as friendliness. The starter was obviously a very un-happy person. We were not greeted or welcome in any way. The young man who checked us in at the pro shop was nice. Thankfully we only payed the golf now rate because this course based on condition and staff is definitely NOT worth any more nor is it worth the drive, which for us was about an hour each way. Mark this one off the list.
great day golfing
11:33 tee time on a Friday. course was wide open in good shape. the pulled pork sandwich was awesome and Steph was very friendly and fun to talk to. greens were fast and then slow probably from being watered. good day great golf
Needs improvement
Grass and weeds growing in the sand traps.
Hard to find distance markers.
Greens slow. Patchy grass.
If you've never played this course, you'll need a yardage book to play. Lots of blind shots, hills, corners, ect.
No drink cart. Asked the starter in the beggining if there was, told its out there. It wasn't!
I've heard good things about the course, but was not happy. Wouldn't return or recommend anyone else.
Great golf
Great golf from the whites. Long from the tips. The course was well kept. The back is harder because of water but overall the course plays very well.
