Teeing off at 6:25am is a real treat with this fun opening hole. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

The par-5 6th is one of the best scoring opportunities on the front nine after a few devilish holes. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

You can go from birdie opportunity to scrambling for double if you don't repect the approach on the par-4 18th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Due to incalcuable elevation change, the par-3 10th is one of the hardest 145-yard holes I've ever played. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Great track outside NOVA
Driving from the DC area, this was a hike but well worth it for the price and course. Greens were in excellent condition as well as the fairways. Only gripe.....bunkers were not in great shape (grass growing in the bunker).
Blue Ridge Shadows
Not the first time we played this course. GolfNow.com had a great deal. Staff was very friendly and the course was in great shape. Will play there again.
Beautiful course
Challenging, great staff and facility, definitely recommend.
The course was fun to play
I'm an average golfer and the course was challenging but not too hard. Would recommend to a friend.
Good all around course.
This course plays wide and forgiving from tees to green.
Rough was reasonable the few times I found my ball off the fairway.
Traps (fairway and green side) need attention.
Tees were reasonable but show signs of misuse and poor grounds keeping (just a few out of 18).
Fairways were, for the most part, in very good shape and would be even better if players would fill their divots.
Greens were very nice with very few exceptions (a few minor bare spots on only a few greens), and again, would be even better if players took the time to use a ball mark tool (even on marks they may not have created).
I played on a rainy day and other than a few soggy spots, this course was more than enjoyable.
I also require a handicapped cart flag and management was more than happy to provide one.
Terrific holes with views, especially #15 from the upper tees.
I had a good time playing the course.
Disappointed
I have played Blue Ridge Shadows many times in the past, but last Friday will be the last time I play at that course.
We hold a friends weekend golf outing every year and this year decided to stay local. I called Blue Ridge Shadows on Tuesday for a Friday Tee Time and was told they were wide open. I specifically asked if they had any Tournaments going on since we always play at least 36 holes each day. They told me that they didn't have any tournaments that day and when we arrived we found out they had TWO, one in the morning and a large one in the afternoon. Can we stop being so greedy and think about the customers every once in a while? When we made the turn we had two groups that jumped in front of us because they were making room for the 1:00 tournament, they were sending everyone off the back nine...... When i confronted the PGA Pro, all he was worried about was the Tournament and not anyone else. We may only be a small group but I will never play/recommend that course again.
Blueridge Shadows
Worse condition I've ever seen this course in. Glad I paid the golfnow price, cause course was not worth full price. Course needs a lot of help. Lots of weeds and dirt in and around fairways and greens. Weeds and lots of dirt in sand traps. Actually no sand in sand traps. Overall poor conditions.
excellent
We had a great day playing. Everyhing was top notch. We will be coming back often.
Great course!
Played this course on a Sunday! The staff and facilities where great! The course was in fantastic shape and the pace of play was good. The greens rolled true! The fairways where in great shape. Only issue was the sand..but it did rain the day before! Overall great experience.
Fair
Fair course for 19$ twilight rate , to many courses in the 30 min drive to charge more than 35$ on day and weekend rounds. Course was in fair condition, I have seen it in far better and if it were I could see paying regular fees per round. Currently disappointed that the staff has let this Gem of the Shenandoah Valley stray to a average fading to sub-par course, need to get their act together on the ground crew & Bar n grill.
Best Value in Virginia
My wife and I travel up to this course once a month during the golf season, all the way from Charlottesville, for a weekend stay and play. We don’t drive two hours to see the sights in Front Royal, but to golf ourselves to exhaustion on this wonderful course. If we don’t do 72 holes over the weekend, then there must have been a weather problem.
To each his own, but this course suits me perfectly. There’s something about each hole which makes it unique, and I like that. I really like the elevation changes and the “risk-reward” nature of many holes. I find the course to be plenty challenging enough from the white tees, but with five sets of tees usually on four distinct and sometimes widely separated tee boxes, this course can be FAR more challenging from the back tees. Favorites are #1 and #18…both are easy to par with two good shots, but one bad shot probably leads to a double or even triple bogey. Dislike the par three #10…it’s difficult for me to hit and hold the green from the tee well below the steeply elevated green, and my wife has it in her head that it is flat out not possible from her tee box even further below. But, every good course ought to have one hole to vex you. The starter advises you account for the distance and elevation, and then add two. He’s right.
I see some contrary opinions here on the condition of the course this year, but I’ve found the course to be in rather impressive condition each time I’ve played there, and I have played around patches of snow there. Starting our third year of monthly play now, I characterize the course conditions to be uniformly excellent. The worst I can say is that golfers there seem to have an aversion to replacing divots; perhaps it’s a NOVA thing. It can make some of the holes like #14, which feature landing zones from which a lot of irons are played, look like war zones by Sunday afternoon.
The staff there is like family. The pro on duty once opened up the course for me alone when I showed up on a day with weather so cold and rainy that they’d closed the course. And she warmed up some leftovers for me at the turn. Where does that happen?
I get around the state to golf pretty much, but for me there is not a better course open to the public at near this price. I highly recommend it.
Quirky and not maintained
The course is hilly and some of the holes are quirky. Could be a nice course, is quite challenging, bunkers were in terrible shape, weeds around bunkers were 12+ inches. Ball marks covered greens and fairways were littered with bare spots from golfers not replacing divots. I probably wouldn't return because of this. Shenandoah Valley is in much better shape
fair conditions
i have played this course a number of time's. this is the worst of conditions. none of the grasses have been mowed. the bunkers are all washed out. clover everywhere. what's going on????
Great as always!
Had a great time playing this course - for the most part it was in excellent shape - greens were a little inconsistent. Got thru 16 holes before a heavy thunderstorm moved in!
Great place to play
Elevation is something to be admired here. Blind fairways and greens so you'll want to play more than once to get a good feel. Love it!
Course Amenities
The course needs mor ball cleaners on tees. Need fore water stations on course.
should play this course
great course!! great staff!! played this course a few times. i would be come a member if only i did not live so far out.
Challenging course, scenic
Interesting layout, need to play more than once to know where to hit the ball. My biggest problem was the slow pace of play, and no marshal on the course to ask slow foursomes to pick it up.
Blue Ridge Shadows
Long course from blue and black tees. Much easier from white tees. Requires accurate tee shots around sand traps, water hazards and brushy areas. Significant amount of elevation change between tees, fairways and greens. Excellent greens with fair amount of undulation. Key is to keep the ball in play off the tee. You need to ride - to far between some tees. Excllent restaurant. Generally a pleasant experience for all.
Nice course
Nice course but you need to play it at least once before you know where you can and cannot hit it and still have a shot. You have to be very accurate with your shots on this course. It's a very good course for the money.
This time out the course did not tell us that they aerated the greens when we made the Tee times.
