The par-5 6th is one of the best scoring opportunities on the front nine after a few devilish holes. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

You can go from birdie opportunity to scrambling for double if you don't repect the approach on the par-4 18th. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

Due to incalcuable elevation change, the par-3 10th is one of the hardest 145-yard holes I've ever played. Photo submitted by Back9Ben on 07/05/2020

good condition
staffs are very friendly.
fairway and green are good condition
Surprise
Course was in excellent condition considering the weather. Only on # 11 was there standing water and it was in and near the environmentally sensitive area. Greens were in great shape an firm. Staff was, as usual, friendly and accomodating. Always have a great time here.
Nice course, will play again
We played 2 days after the snow melted so as expected is was pretty wet, but even though it was February the course was overall very nice. I would like to play in the summer to see how the greens truly are. The greens were very slow but I am sure they have not been touched for a month with all the snow we had.
Enjoyable course with an interesting design.
Blue Ridge Shadows GC is well maintained and a fun layout. There are some lay-up holes and others where the player needs to get as much distance on each hit as possible. There are a lot of elevation changes, some open links-style holes, and various water features and ravines in play on many holes. Overall a nice play to come out to play and then enjoy dinner after at any of the nearby restaurants.
Course requires well placed tee shots.
Enjoyable course overall. Starting hole was least favorite, but liked design better as the round progressed. There are a few holes that are close together, so watch for stray shots on these. Greens putted well. I would play it again.
Great condition and friendly staff
Blue Ridge Shadows is truly one of the best courses in the area. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The course itself was in excellent shape for the time of year. Greens rolled true and good speed. Pace of play was great with being able to play a round in three and a half hours. Could not ask for a better Veteran's Day.
Decent course with great views of the mountains
Pace of play was good. Marshall was noticeably around monitoring the slower groups. Would def go back for the right price ($45 for an early morning weekend tee time)
Nice course with great variety of holes.
BRS is a nice course. Scenery is A++++. Layout is nice with a nice variety of holes. One funky dogleg par 5. Condition was good for early November. Price is high compared to other area courses unless you can get a Golfnow or other booking for less. The $55-$68 regular price is not competitive. We will go back in the spring when we can catch a deal.
Very good and challenging course
The course condition is great. Elevation is beautiful. Not too crowded. Staffs are nice and easy going. This course should rate no lower than 4.3
Great course for the price
One of the better courses in the area for the price, difficult but very playable for the average golfer. I would recommend it to anyone.
This is a fun course
The course is beautifully kept, the greens our fair. We played from the gold tees taking some of the most challenging obstacles out of the way.
It is challenging and fair for all skill levels. What a delightful place to spend the afternoon.
Well worth the drive
Three of us drove an hour and ten minutes to play Blue Ridge Shadows. We were greeted with a smile in the pro shop by the course manager who proceeded to offer us the senior rate. We clearly qualified but had forgotton to ask for it when we checked in. The practice range balls are included in there fee. The course is well maintained but there were some areas on the greens which were not pristine. Lots of elevation changes on the fairways and the greens were nicely contoured. It is clear that the designer of this course wanted to make the course fun to play as well as enjoyable to view as you play. The waterfall at the eighteenth makes it a memorable finishing hole. Finally, the nineteenth hole serves a great homemade smoked pork sandwich in an extemely friendly atmosphere. Nice course, great food and friendly people. We will be back.
Good Fair test of golf.
Very interesting layout. Great shape, love the greens , very true.
This course has great features
Clean and green fairways and very good.
Golf Course Management was also quite good and the staff was friendly
Tough layout
Nice course, but it's not a place for beginners or 20+ handicap golfers. Very hilly, quite a few tight holes with trouble on both sides. Easy to lose a lot of balls here if you don't hit it straight. Couple of the par 3s look like they were jammed in just to get you from one place to the next, especially the brutally uphill 10th. Conditions are good, and it's a good challenge for good players. But lesser players will have a long day here.
Customer service to include Marshall, Starter and Service Cart was horrible, making an otherwise good golf experience very average.
First off, starter gave us wrong pin position for the day ... he said "C", but it was "A". We finally got cart service on the 18th tee, repeat 18th tee, after calling the pro shop / manager and asking for service many holes earlier -- never got service on front nine. Marshall stayed with our group for 3 or so holes, pulled up behind us 3 times with a member of our group on tee getting ready to hit ... never stopped, then wanted to talk. Overall, we enjoyed the course, but during our hour long drive back home all we could talk about was the service, or lack thereof.
Very mixed; the good and not so good!
Staff is fair and poorly managed; Starter more concerned with talking to buddies than getting people off on time with instructions. Tables in cafe not cleared 1 hour after people left. Carts were not available for 30 minutes after our arrival Though range balls were included in price, there were very few available on the range
Course: mixed. Greens were horrible, Though spiked, they we long and cut inconsistently. Many weeds and mixed grasses.
Fairways were ok. Challenging shots with few 'flat' area's. Beginners beware. Very scenic with undulating and significant elevation changes. Requires accurate, not long game to have success.
Good fun course if you can look past the staff and greens.
BRS is a quality lay out that has been in decline for a couple of years.
I have played this course several times in the last couple of years and there is a trend in the decline of the quality. Washed-out bunkers, mushrooms growing in the fairway, dead patches on several greens, and 5 hour (or more) for the round (last 2 rounds) are my reasons for not recommending the course. The staff are apologetic but realize that maintenance is not keeping up with mother nature. Three years ago the course was rated in the top 10 golf courses in Virginia, it is now well below that standard and has fallen off the scale. As other reviewers have indicated there are much better courses to play for the money. Even if they were to enforce the pace of play to 4 hours the failure to maintain the golf course represents an investment the managers no longer wish to perform. Unfortunate because it is a terrific layout.
Nice layout.
The greens were a bit slow (she was just coming out off aerification) but great sizing with interesting, but not goofy, form.
All in all, there were some really nice risk/reward set-ups which made for good, fair challenges. First time playing here, with the help of several great putts, I shot a 90. Looking forward to coming back (its two hours from my house).
