Royal Kunia Country Club

About
Royal Kunia Country Club boasts a reputation as one of the best and most scenic golf courses on Oahu. The course is perched high above the Ewa plain, offering panoramic views of the entire South Shore, stretching from Pearl Harbor to the downtown skyline of Honolulu to the famed Diamond Head. The layout rolls across a gently undulating landscape, offering a diverse layout of short par 4s and demanding par 5s. Water comes into play on a few holes and there are strategically placed bunkers throughout. Its coastal location guarantees that wind will be a factor in determining your outcome. The signature hole comes exactly midway through the course. Royal Kunia Country Club's par-5 ninth requires three strong shots that avoid the numerous troubles from tee to green including bunkers, trees, water, and of course, wind.

Will go again
I booked this course for afternoon play and paid for 18 holes, only got to play 9 because of start time of 3pm and the course was super slow. There were 3-4 groups backed up on a par 4 hole. Will try this course again during the week at an earlier tee time. The course itself is beautiful and the staff was very friendly.
My only complaint
They aggressively kick you off the course at 600. Had three holes left and could have finished. It was frustrating due to a 20 minute wait to tee off and generally below average pace of play. Just wait untill dark. Especially with 7 or 8 groups still on course wishing desperately for the pace of play to pick up.
Course was fun, good views, decent condition and the finishing holes looked pretty as I drove past them in my cart.
Pace of play was great
Got a great deal on Golfnow, the non-resident regular rate for this course is way too high. Clubhouse facilities definitely need an upgrade. Played in under 4hrs which was great. Sand traps were like hitting off pavement. Rest of course was in pretty good shape.
Did they like tourists ?
Very beautiful course. Challenging and very golfic view on many holes. The problem I had is they charge me 30$ for my wife sharing my cart. She didn’t played. Little expensive. What frustrated me is the cart they gave me… look the photo I sent …. Unabled to put the breaks on when I quit the cart to play. And dirty cart. Do they like tourists or only their money ? I was not shure this could climb some hills. I look around and other peoples had pretty cart.
Pleasantly surprised…
Don’t let the clubhouse and range fool you…
Very nice layout, good conditions, very friendly staff.
Clubhouse, range, range balls and carts definitely don’t leave a great first impression but was pleasantly surprised and will definitely play their again. Views on just about every hole…
Not Worth the Money
Nice layout and view, but facilities and course were run down. Greens were like asphalt. Old gas powered carts. Even at discounted rate, this was not worth the money.
Great golf
My wife and I really enjoyed our experience, the course has generous fairways and the greens were in great shape. Challenging but fair for all golfers.
We will definitely play again
Course is ok
Many of the bunkers are poorly prepared with grass growing in them
Very poor courtesy enforced. Most bunkers had not been raked by previous players
The second nine was a disaster. At times there were 4 groups waiting to tee off. One group was disastrously slow and completely clueless. Yet there were Marshall’s riding around but did not seem to keep the field flowing.
The facilities are very poor and the service very slow.
Terrible aerated greens, not playable
If you are paying non-resident fees and prepaid do not play this course. We are from out of state, prebooked and prepaid full price but ended up playing aerated greens with no discount. They have a sign for $40 for non-resident to ride when they aerated the greens. Aeration should be posted clearly when booking times but suddenly the course decided to aerate the greens. You cannot putt in the greens with sand but they said clearly before the round it is playable. Ridiculous. Staff at the starter and counter can use some training about respecting paying out of state customers specially when paying full priced green fees. Good layout but bad experience with staff and greens condition. Unforgettable disappointing experience when we had build up the excitement to play this course beforehand for this trip. I apologized to my friends for the mistake of playing the course.
Pricing
Enjoyed the golf outing, celebraitng a birhtday. Disappointed though about the pro-shop attendant not offering senior discounts
