Island green on 17 Photo submitted by drksmith on 11/07/2012
love this course! don't let #17's island green blow your game!
mature trees, nicely laid out, excellent greens. very friendly staff.
This one has it all, golf, scenery, wild life, flowers
Our favorite course on the big island. We see many improvements every time we visit. Hope to see a PGA
Tour here sometime. They deserve it with all the
Improvements, scenery and that No. 17.....
What a difference!
Played this course some years ago and did not come back. Heard from a friend that it was quite nice so we tried it and were so pleased with the course and the staff. We will return next time on the Big Island.
Like playing on a farm
Played twice. Fun course. Good value. Great setting. All staff friendly EXCEPT FOR MARK
This course COULD be a great course!
From the web site and picture of the signature 17th hole we thought we were in for a real treat however the condition of the course was poor, sand traps had not been maintained with goats and ducks having tracked through them. I don't think the sand traps had been raked for quite some time. The regular price of $150 was also misleading. If course was in great shape, ok.
The playing conditions were excellent
This Is a nice course with good views of the ocean from many of the holes and great playing conditions. There was almost no wind on this course the day we played while the coastal courses like Hapuna and the Mauna Kea were very windy. It was nice to play a course not surrounded by homes and condominiums - We will definitely play here again!
Loved the course....
Amazing setting-GREAT views. Some absolutely beautiful fairway designs. Lots of danger but survivable. I have to go back again...no doubt about it.
I HIGHLY recommend this course to any golfer visiting or living on The Big Island.
Challenging to say the least
quit a good course and it is amazing layout. Quit a few water hazards and lots of bling approaches....greens are tricky
wonderful layout up in the hills
a great change of pace from the resort courses in kohala...a really fun layout with several holes that made you think...i was glad i got paired with a couple who had played here before because some local knowledge definitely comes in handy...it's a course i could play again and again and enjoy each time (unlike mauna kea, which is just plain brutal)...
Beautiful and playable for all levels
Stunningly beautiful, and well layed out. It was very windy the day we played; don't know if this is typical or not.
Course is challenging, but not overly so. Green fees were moderate for this quality of course in Hawaii. Overall, this course is well worth playing.
Great golf course with lots of wildlife to watch.
We always enjoy this golf course as it has some interesting holes including the island green at 17. The variety of wildlife and game birds is fun to observe on the course.
Save your money and go elsewhere
Debbie behind the counter was VERY IGNORANT not friendly or polite. nickel and dimed us for every little item we needed. no range, tees, etc. no cart until the last second. range practice boxes facing thE wrong direction. Charged us full price for rentals even though we were told to download the preferred player card (which has no name or number on it so it is useless) and that would be fine to get discounted rate. Person on phone lied to us or debbie was being difficult about it. Will not go back
A Big Island gem for golf and views
With the high elevation, comes cooler temperatures versa the ocean edge courses. On many holes the green is not visible from the tee boxes, and fairways are interestingly undulating. Many holes have a tempting risk/reward shot from the tee over dog leg corners or water. The par 3's are all challenging, with the final par 3 an island green. "Club House" is basic, no eating areas. Play this course and have great memories of the Big Island.
Great value, my wife loved it!
First course we golfed in Hawaii. Very forgiving course with great advantage for women players. Can actually expect to get to the green in regulation. Island green is a nice touch. Would golf it again in a minute.
The course has a lot of character
while this course still has some improvements to be made, It has come a long way toward perfection. Some fairways are a little firm. The pace of play on this particular round was very slow.
Great Golf; Great Value
At 2500 feet of elevation, the temp is about 10 degrees cooler than in Waikoloa. Good value for the price paid. Great vistas and elevation changes. Fairways and greens need a little attention, but some of the fastest greens on the Big Island. They rolled true. Would definately play this again over higher-priced resort courses. Great routing and loved the 2 finishing holes. Pace of play was excellent. Mostly "locals" with course knowledge and moved quickly.
Lots of wild animals that were friendly. Grouse.turkeys, and sheep.
The course was in good shape. The mountains around the coarse, very nice. The signature hole 17 was fun. Hit the club you use for that distance and hit it good, there is no problem getting on. If you hit I rock like I did, it's a good laugh.
A really different and fun play.
Beautiful setting. The 17th island hole is a kick. The course is nice and the greens are nice, as well. The sheep, goats, turkeys and wide variety of birds and plants make it especially unique and interesting. Staff is outstanding.
Different for Hawaii
Very nice course played up in the hills from the Kona coast. A Perry Dye design so you can tell his dad's influences.
