Big Island Gem
If you want a break from the heat and humidity of resort golf, this is the place to go. The course layout is challenging with water hazards on numerous holes including the two finishing holes. The greens were in great condition and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
A bonus was seeing the Hawaii State bird wandering around many of the fairways.
This course was tough but fair.
This was by far the best course I played this year. The course was in excellent shape. Playing from the blue tee boxes leave you with some long PAR 3's but well worth the challenge. Would love the opportunity to play here again, especially the 3 qtr island green 17. Played it early morning so had to deal with the elements( goats) on the first few holes, but after that just rolling green fairways and excellent greens. LOVE THIS COURSE.
Excellent Value for the $$$$$
I enjoyed everything about the course including
The animals roaming the course. Can't wait to
Play the next time I visit the island.
Fun course
An enjoyable day... Nice people ... Goats, turkeys, nene add a fun dimension... My wife loved the "Taj Mahal"...will come back
Great Value.
Nice course and priced right. Would play again. Little wind and temperature at 2500 ft comfortable. Island green #17 very challenging.
Cool Breezes and course condition 4 a gr8 day!
Even though this is a drive to get to, it is well worth it. It is 10 degrees cooler than the Kona coast due to higher elevation. Being a women golfer making par no problem with generous red tee placement. All staff very friendly and accommodating. This is one of my favorite courses on the Big Island. By the way, several years ago course was not in good condition. New management invested in making this the course that it is today. Great wildlife out there too.
Great Value and Nice Weather
This is a great escape from the over-priced crowded resort courses and worth the 30 minute drive up into the foothills. Cooler than the low lands and a nice breeze. Greens in great shape. People friendly. You don't get the GPS or fancy amenities but really don't miss it. A great value for the money. Not too crowded. No one in front or behind. All in all a great time.
Most fun of any course on the Island.
By the time we got on (2pm) the course was a little "fuzzy" BUT BUT… is was the most fun we have had of any of the Big Island or Maui courses played on this trip. The Pete Dye design plays with a keen sense of challenge and in some cases a little cheeky. The temperature was 10 degrees cooler, the carry was greater (3,000 feet) and the views were spectacular. The best part was the staff; they were genuinely happy to see you and grateful for you to spend your time and hard earned money on their course. A must play at least once while on the Big Island… or even twice++.
Very enjoyable place to play. We will go back.
This course was a lovely place to play. Between the very friendly staff and the animals around the course, my wife and I enjoyed our experience at Big Island Country Club. The course had great views and challenging holes that kept our attention focused on a relaxing and enjoyable day in paradise.
island green 5 tee boxes great views
Nice course with lots of birds and plenty of trees. No houses on any holes. Higher elevation for cooler temp. Occasional light drizzle.
Great design! Loved all the natural flora and fauna. Saw sheep, goats, a mule, a peacock, turkeys, ducks, etc. -- very cool!
Amazingly, I was able to par three holes -- 11, 15 and 17. Hole 17 is beautiful and difficult all at the same time. The staff was incredibly friendly! Great experience! We'll be back, guaranteed!
Challenging, great condition, beautifully appointed and tremendous views of mountains and the ocean.
The course is on the side of a mountain about 200ft above the ocean. It is inside an old crater with some holes sitting inside of sub craters. A beautiful setting with tremendous views, very well maintained with flowers and plantings, and sufficiently challenging, especially from the championship tees (over 7000 yards), the 17th hole has an island green. We were glad we chose to play there.
Wonderful course
We really like playing this course, perfect elevation, cool and no wind..Lots of wild life, flowers, shrubs and Trees are beautiful..course is very fun to play, challenging but not too difficult...
Disappointed, expected much more from the hype
Course needed water badly, fairways were not in good shape, greens were spotty and inconsistent length
Great fun and great value
Playing in the early afternoon it was cool, very pleasant. Greens were in great shape to others i've seen on the island. Good sand traps/tee boxes. Tons of wildlife and natural beauty. It's a fun track with well thought out tee boxes for all levels of play. Best value so far on the Big Island. Strongly recommend.
Was not worth the money!!
Over priced course. In my book not worth the time and money to play, unless you have a four some. Got the feeling I was imposing of the locals. Felt out of place and not very friendly. Every other course I played I felt like they were glad to have me there.
love this course! don't let #17's island green blow your game!
mature trees, nicely laid out, excellent greens. very friendly staff.
This one has it all, golf, scenery, wild life, flowers
Our favorite course on the big island. We see many improvements every time we visit. Hope to see a PGA
Tour here sometime. They deserve it with all the
Improvements, scenery and that No. 17.....
What a difference!
Played this course some years ago and did not come back. Heard from a friend that it was quite nice so we tried it and were so pleased with the course and the staff. We will return next time on the Big Island.
Like playing on a farm
Played twice. Fun course. Good value. Great setting. All staff friendly EXCEPT FOR MARK
